Ethnic tribes who reside there have preserved their traditions better than those who are on the east province of China. If you notice, eastern miao are more han and chinese whole western miao are more distinct. Same could be said for other tribes. Jingpo, wa, naga are more distinct and tribal nomadic while other eastern Chinese tribes are more scinized. In ancient times, it was likely that China was inhabited by darker skin people who wore animal parts and worshipped totem and had body ink tattoo. They were more closely related to burmese thai or laos which are more close to pacific islanders. Research shows that artifacts in china shows traits of pacific islander inhabitants. South east asians have traits of pacific Island too(genetic, language, and customs). It's likely that south east asian tribes were always in china and myanmar, laos, and Thailand. It was only recently that they disappeared in china or got assimilated but still remained in south east asia. Miao were always there and still is. They didn't just get left in burma. The miao in myanmar are closer to their ancestors in Yunnan. The hmong people in laos came from them.

Even though we have been separated for many yrs i can understand 98% of what they said. We don’t wear the same clothes though. They speak green hmong dialect though. These are Hmong that live in Myanmar.
I can understand them, but I have to think like a kid though, in terms of speech, because the choices of words they use are very “simple” compared to the multiple phrases that us Hmoob from Lao, Vietnam, and China, can use to communicate.

Hmong are neither “ tribe”nor “indigenous”people. Although our ancestral land was taken and occupied by the Chinese. Because of the geopolitical of South East Asia countries, because of the power power and powerless, the unjust treaties that squeezed the Hmong out into the country less people. Today, we live, strive and flourish because of our strong and continuous practice of our root and cultures. May the Almighty God bless my Hmong people.
