This modules blows my mind. Joranalogue continues to break new ground and repurpose classic techniques in new ways we hadn't considered. I love using both soft and hard sync at the same time on this beast. Some really great textures to be found when adjusting the pitch of those two sync sources in relation to each other and Generate 3. Throw sync into the mix to cool the burn. Inclusion of VCAs over FUND./EVEN/ODD is an amazing bonus that goes a long way in creating dynamic sounds. (Need to try a quadrature LFO fading between them, then at audio rate!) So many possibilities. If you are at all a fan of FM this module is as close to heaven as you'll find on earth!
This video I am really starting to understand now...what a gem of a video, leanred so much more about ring mod, FM and Phase Mod, and going to rip my patch cords out of my Generate 3 and use it properly....!! Great video on synthesis in gnereal, and Generate 3 totally rocks!!
I absolutely love this complex oscillator, but I have knocked the coarse tune pot quite a few times which can be frustrating when playing live or recording in the studio. Part of me wishes that more folks implemented a push to tune knob like Noise Engineering or a locked pitch switch similar to SSF's ZPO. Minor details though. Cheers on the amazing overview!
Totally hear you. I had this idea that one could create a small flip type cover similar to what I've seen on fighter jet missle launch buttons & attach it somehow to be able to quickly cover that knob @D. Martin Sound
That FLIP sync is excellent...as is your demo of it, showing how the wave travels backwards from the point at which it was interrupted by the Sync master. It reminds me of why alternating looping on samplers is so much nicer and less clicks than standard looping (RESET being the equivalent on the Generate 3)
For some reason I just cannot generate the same rich timbral phasing with my Gen 3 modulated by an audio rate triangle wave from my SSF Spectrum. I have my Gen 3 set more or less identical with those of DivKid. I have even tried using Ch 2 of Maths to amplify the triangle wave patched to the Gen 3 phase input. My phasing is more subtle. Strange because the phasing patch shown is such a simple patch. Nevertheless great demo of the well designed and beautifully manufactured module.
it makes for a comprehensive LFO with how it can be modulated and the different waveform outputs. I use it a lot like that too. Though I also use Filter 8 as an LFO a fair bit as well.
Wondering, when using soft sync (aka flip) does the pitch from G3 tend to stabilize to the pitch of the modulation oscillator? Gets lots of sweet drifting tones in there, but i then i hear it stabilize into a more regular tone like at 28:16 . Sick overview video btw!
Epic! Joranalogue is gonna be the next Cwejman with engineering this precise and intricate! Joranalogue, if you are in the comments, how did you implement the phase modulation in circuitry?
That's the secret sauce. ;) PM in analogue has been done before, but here it's implemented using a completely new circuit, to my knowledge, as the existing solutions didn't offer the required performance.
You are entirely responsible for my very much wanting all of Joranalogue’s products - which would be an outlay I cannot, being a sick guy, afford. Thanks a fuckin’ lot, Ben. Keep up the good work.
We need a guide to mix this with Filter 8 now, i'm sure there are more things that I had no clue existed that sound great combining these two. DivKidVideo what does ''A nice little PT trail in the background' mean at 15:00? Polymetric… something????
"static source" is the Filter 8 next to it. The static sound I'm syncing to throughout that part of the video. Apologies that wasn't clear. I say "static" as I don't modulating the sine wave that the oscillating filter 8 gives us. But I do modulate the Generate 3.
@@DivKid no it's me that don't really understand, i'm newby but i follow you videos and try to reproduce/understand what you do/say, i didin't understood what was the modulation that you put inside "exp fm" imput. i try with LFO square semi controlled and attenuated it work wery well. this particular patch was really amazing. thanks!!!
the bit going into the EXP FM was a step sequence. I can't remember which one but something moving along with a clock and changing the pitch of the oscillator. Happy to help.

Hello, I'm glad you've found something that has appealed to you and that you really want to explore. I remember that journey into really learning synthesis with modular, through zero, sync types etc. It's a fun one. So I hope you have a great time with it.
@@DivKid Cheers, Ben, I will. Where I live, in South Korea, there is not much of a modular scene. The bulk of it is up in Seoul, and you're talking a few hundred people in a city of 25 million. Here in my conservative inland city, 3 hours south of Seoul by the fast train, I know of one other modular user in our city of 2.8 million people. Videos by you, Mylar, Ihor, Loopop, RMR, Quincas, etc - I couldn't possibly have made it this far without them. Hell, I may not have even known about modular at all if it weren't for al those. In fact, I can't even remember when the lines between some Volcas and a Beatstep Pro started blurring across to full modular. But here I am now, 500p into it, and there's no turning back. My local vendor has the Gen 3 in stock now, and when I order it on Monday night, it'll be on my doorstep by Wed evening at the latest. I'm also buying Batumi/Poti used, at the same time, which will arrive at the same time. After seeing your video on it, I was instantly sold on the divide mode, but I can see some really interesting things happening in the phase mode too. My head is swimming with ideas. Thank you for all your amazing content. At first, I had no idea what you were talking about, it was impossible to keep up. Now I feel like I understand about 1/2 way what you're talking about. But, closer every day. Cheers!
Maybe it’s a bit late to ask a question here, but what oscillator are you using offscreen as a modulation source? I had been hoping to use my Dixie II+ this way but I’ve come to learn it needs a square or saw to sync to, it can’t sync to the Core output of the G3.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems I can modulate my guitar tone with this, and with a variety of ways. For one: This is a guitar effect that can do ring modulation like no existing Ring mod pedal can do. Correct? Your thoughts please.
That would be cool! I'd love for Joran to explore some complex oscillator pairings and wave shaping ideas. I'm sure he's thought it through at least a little already (though I don't know anything). Thank you RE "great video" that's always really appreciated.
For some reason syncing the generate 3 to my ts-l wont work. I put the core output into the sync of the ts-l as shown in the video (phase modulation) but but it gets more chaotic. Am I doing something wrong?
I think that's because it is synced with the output of the carrier, creating a discontinuity everytime generator 3 is locked with the input oscillator.
There's are also some clicks pops and buzzing sounds when the through zero fm reaches 0 modulation. I am often sure to offset any modulation to my fm input.
Fuck me... I have 2 rubicon 2’s. Anyone know if this is too much overlap? It already kind of has the octave up saw harmonic. And of course zero through all day and fascinating wave folder... but what about that phase modulation and almost additive type stuff?? This one seems crazy cool! That filter is on my map as well...
Daniel Grace similarish, but e352 is digital. This is very stable analog. E352 is limited by being software. But not as limited as say PC software. The processor used in the e352 could have run your entire computer and daw by itself in the 1990s, but it’s been wholly optimized to one imaginary thing. If you want digital wavetables, look no further. I’m intrigued in buying this oscillator because... well I own the e352, I mean 3 dimensional wavetables lmao!? fuck off serum. But this guy is very intriguing.
