Today we examine the new bill slated to pass in Georgia which would remove the need to obtain a barber license to practice Barbering or Cosmetology. It looks like Georgia's Republican party has decided to "cut the red tape and get people back to work." What about those who have already graduated and obtained a license?

That’s crazy they should reduce it to 300 hours of techniques thats actually used in barbershops and sanitation can be learned in couple hours but having no school isn’t fair to the ppl that paid and put in the time to get their license

I definitely think the number of hours that people do in school are a scam & not worth it they should definitely do a reduction in hrs
If you’re gonna be a Cosmo, I think you should still go to school and get a license you’re likely to be mixing chemicals.
For barbers: I think you should still go to school for a very minimal amount of hours on how to keep the client safe (cleanliness, disinfection, straight razor, etc)

I think there will still be a requirement to learn all of the practices of sanitation in order to gain a certificate to be a barber instead of a license. The fees will be cheaper for students.

I went to barber school in Alabama in the mid-70s and successfully completed the program which included two trips to Montgomery and two state board exams. Much to my surprise, shortly after that, barber laws disintegrated in Alabama😮! I’ve been barbering for almost 47 years. I tell people through the years that I did it “by the book”. I still encourage people to get proper training if they have that option. I also agree that barber training could be streamlined to focus on the actual hair cutting techniques.

Barbering needs to be respected. They're already enough dudes cutting without licenses bumping people up, and not doing shit right. They are making mockery of the profession by doing this. Standards are important. Everyone wants everything quick, fast, and in a hurry, without putting real effort in these days. Just my opinion

In Michigan 1800hrs required. Only a handful of schools in the entire state. That’s 40hrs/week & a rage of $15,000 to $30,000. Most barbers don’t come from families with the capability give them financial backing for 1-2years. & if they do.. there family usually won’t support that journey. Maybe doctor, lawyer, engineer, accountant, but not barbering. Then.. to ice the cake. The barber schools are mid at best, you gonna finish school & still not know how to cut hair 😂 & 90days after graduating your gonna forget all those vocabulary words from 1957 😂. The education system is a joke & a scam even for barbers. I’m with licensing be good. It sets an achievement & a sense of a certain standard. Although the system is obsolete. Definitely needs to be modified & updated. Cause right now they set you up for failure.

I came across this video because I am wanting to get my license so my wife and I can open our own shop (she is already licensed and been doing this since 2010) I KNOW how to cut, fade, shave, I’ve been studying beard growth and grooming since 2012 so if 10,000 hrs makes you an expert, I’m an expert, I just don’t have my license. Saying all of that, I’m conflicted on this. I think the hrs are too much especially if they’re making us learn stupid unnecessary stuff, but on the other hand I think it’s important to have a license and to have been trained properly. Maybe the reduced hours would be the best method. Maybe passing the bill will cause schools to get their act together.

The FREE market produces the best quality product. The more regulations the higher the cost of the product and the lower the quality of the product. Require a passing of a minimal annual sanitation inspection to keep the doors open. Allow competition to keep the bar raised for a quality product and price competition. Today we have over priced barbers producing poor quality haircuts. Just like the restaurant businesses, the mom and pop shops are usually cleaner and the big chains are nasty.
