Anyone had this happen to their TD5? 🤔🤔

I have. What is the risk if it's left like that for too long?

@@LittleBigMediaCo Well, you leak exhaust gas. Its just like a leaking manifold in any other car. It artificially heats up the surrounding area but that shouldn't do much bad.

Hey, mine was left like this for a year. I did not see any damage done, except for black sot from the exhaust. But this is not my daily drive so it did not get used so often. The only thing I think could get som damage is the rear engine cover if it got too hot. But I think you are pretty safe. I did not have my top cover on for this period, just so you know. I wish you good luck with getting it fixed. Mine is now fixed and working as it should. Will be a complete video series about this fix. Next video coming tomorrow. 😉 Best, Simon

Yes, apparently this tends to happen on some of this engines.

Excellent - thanks for this. Just about to buy a TD5 so good to know this!

Hehehe, a bit easier fixing a manifold. 😊😊
Are videos on the channel on how I fixed mine by getting it machined flat. 👍

Maybe an exhaust gas temperature gauge would have given an early warning of potential problems .

A very good point Peter! I should really get that for my Discovery now. 😅

how about the ticking sound that starts at 0:57 and is more distinguishable as you accelerate at 1:00? My disco td5 has the same ticking and also has the manifold problem, are these sounds related (someone indicated to me they are)? Did it go away after fixing the issue? Thanks a lot for everything,

Same answers as in community section . "Hey man, sorry for the late reply. I think it's the gasket making that sound as well. The gasket is just moving very slowly so you don't get the high pitch squealing sound yet. I haven't noticed any ticking sound after the replacement. But I can check next time I start it up. I hope it helps. Have you seen the other videos, after this one. Loads of videos where the defender is running so you can hear if you hear the same sound there." Best, Simon

Land Rover Drive Thank you so much, you really helped me. Mine also does the hissing noise, but before reving it to the required rpm for that squel it makes the ticking noise that I referred at 1:00. I tought about whatching the other videos and hear for myself but didn’t find the time yet, but I’ll definetly do it this weekend. Love from Romania.
