    What would you do when you think no one is watching? What Would You Do? (WWYD?) explores the varying answers with the help of hidden cameras capturing individuals who have been placed within seemingly everyday situation that quickly go ary. The individuals on this hidden camera show are forced to make tough calls when directly faced with situations of racism, violence, hate crimes, and other hot button cultural issues. Catch John Quinones reporting on these individuals as they make split-second decisions to intervene or mind their own business. WWYD? airs Friday nights at 9|8c on ABC.
    What Would You Do? (WWYD) is a hidden camera show, hosted by ABC News correspondent John Quinones, in which unknowing bystanders are placed in uncomfortable, and often compromising real world scenarios in public. WWYD’s hidden cameras focus on the average person’s responses and reactions to these issues of social responsibility. Topics such as gay couples being affectionate in public, date rape, racism and racial profiling, interracial couples, abusive parents, drunk driving, and harassment of the homeless are touched upon in this series. What will you do? Would you choose to intervene in these situations? Watch and join the discussion.

      Chey statistics are on my side here 1 in 50 people in the USA has OCD.... she didn’t portray any symptoms and it is highly unlucky for a person with OCD would be overweight.... according to studies....the average BMI for those with OCD is significantly lower than that of the normal population....people like you are the worst you try and put words in other people mouths and label everyone as something derogatory....just because I said she was overweight doesn’t mean that it was an insult....it’s a descriptor, meaning it describes one of her attributes....would you have known who I was talking about if I didn’t say overweight? No you wouldn’t unless I wasted 5 minutes finding the time stamp why should I work harder to not offend someone for something of their own doing?

    • @sydr5858
      @sydr5858 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Exactly! I work in a job where I can potentially come in contact with a lot of “dirty” things, and I always think I’ve trained myself to “get over it”, but I still run to the sink or the hand sanitizer constantly. I’d say I sanitize my hands/arms an average of every 2-3 minutes during every shift. I had a panic attack and had to run to the kitchen to wash every inch of exposed skin on my face, neck, arms, and chest after a resident hugged me. OCD is nothing “fun” or “quirky”, it can absolutely be debilitating and humiliating. It means a lot to see severe OCD represented accurately in the media.

      I’m so happy you were able to overcome your struggles with ocd. Unfortunately that’s a battle I’m still fighting. I’ve been in therapy both CBT and ERP, under the care of a psychiatrist for medications and every other option under the sun.. I’ve been so desperate I even tried going to a holistic doctor that prescribed me some funky snake venom pills. Nothing has really worked… and I can only pray that someday, with enough work and help, I’ll be able put it in the rear view mirror.
      I’ve gotten to the point where I have a long term job in my dream career field, my own apartment car etc.. and am a contributing member of society- I’ve just learned how to hide it better… but it’s still there.

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement, it really means a lot- especially coming from someone who knows what I’m going through, who’s been there and successfully made it through. I recently started trauma counseling in addition to another go at CBT. I was in an accident a few weeks ago which set me back on my progress. I left the house without doing one of my rituals and was immediately in a major car accident… and although unrelated and irrational, has further cemented some of the obsessions and respective compulsions surrounding leaving the house. My hope is that the trauma counseling combined with the CBT will help with this.

      Therapy does help. OCD is the mental illness with the lowest percentage of cases where it just goes away. But the thing is, you also really have to push through it yourself, doing things you're scared of and that's why working as a waiter would actually benefit a person like him.

    • @itsmelissa5788
      @itsmelissa5788 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      No, it can't just go away. But therapy can help the people with OCD to learn how to live better with the OCD and that can ease the symtoms. It's amazing that help is possible. But what's really sad it that mental illnesses aren't taken seriously in our society. Many people even think that there is nothing like a mental illness and that it's just a stupid imagination. But it's not, mental illnesses are something very serious. If people with mental illnesses like OCD were more accepted in our society, they would definitely feel at least a bit better about it.

      OCD is something that need to be looked at by both a Neurologist, and a Psychologist. I can't speak on the neurologist role, however, OCD tends to include an ultimatum complex, basically it means "I have to do this activity X amount of times, or else Y thing will happen"
      Therapy doesn't try to straight up "stop" OCD, but instead work on what "Y" is and easing the tension that you get from it, whcih in turn, can help relieve stress and other issues that tend to appear due to the strain that OCD has on the individual, if "Y" isn't so scary/stressful/painful anymore, then doing activities X amount of times won't be as necessary or as demanding on me
      Psychotherapy is important!

    • @isabelkloberdanz6329
      @isabelkloberdanz6329 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Therapy fucking sucks but if it's good for anything, it's OCD. OCD is very treatable, especially compared to most mental illnesses, probably because it's a very behavior-driven disorder. Resisting compulsions actually helps alleviate obsessions over time. Changing your behaviors and thoughts does very little for other things like depression, at least if you have the kind of depression I have.

    I'm with the disable woman 100%.
    Each and every one of us needs to understand their limits. Everybody deserves respect, obviously, but it is wrong to say that everyone can do everything.
    I worked in theatre with disable people and I even made a show with deaf actors. Noone expected them to act with their voice even if they were capable of making sound, because it was terrible! But that's not a bad thing to say, it was the truth! They expressed theatre through their bodies.They knew their limits and with that knowledge they honestly became better actors than me.
    This new idea of trying not to see disability is simply wrong and actually disrespectful.

      Yeah this is very true at a place I managed I worked with a little person who had aspergers and she did the prep in the mornings (we worked in a kitchen) and suprisingly she was very good even better than the average worker without a disability like she was always done on time (which I couldnt say for alot of my other employees at the time) although she made a bit more of a mess than everyone else but nontheless we didnt expect her to be like a server and taking orders and face to face going through the assembly line which she could hardly see over. We gave her a fitting job and she excellled in it and she brought so much joy to our Kitchen.

      I agree with what the disabled woman in this video was saying as well. I strongly believe in reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities, but I don't believe in unfair advantages for disabled people. What I mean by reasonable accommodations are accommodations that help a disabled person be successful at meeting the performance standards expected of them, accommodations that allow someone with a disability to accurately demonstrate their skills, their performance, their ability, etc. What I mean by unfair advantages is accommodations where a disabled person is told what the answers are on a test, accommodations where engineering majors with a disability don't have to take Calculus while everyone else that's an engineering major has to take Calculus, accommodations where a disabled person is held to an 85% or higher standard for an A in the class while everyone else is held to a 90% or higher standard for an A in the class, accommodations where a disabled person is held to a 60% or higher standard for passing the CPA exam while everyone else is held to a 75% or higher standard for passing the CPA exam, accommodations where people with disabilities are allowed to be bad at their job and not be held accountable for that, etc.
      I also 100% agree with you how it's wrong to say that everyone can do everything. Everyone has their strengths, and everyone has their weaknesses. All disabled people and all non disabled people have things that they are good at and things that they are not good at. If someone isn't good at Math, they shouldn't be an engineer or a physicist. If someone is blind, they shouldn't be a pilot or bus driver. If someone isn't mechanically inclined, they shouldn't be an auto mechanic, plumber, or construction worker. If someone isn't good at thinking fast in life or death situations, they shouldn't be a police officer.
      I think if someone with OCD is capable of meeting the performance standards expected of them as a waiter (with or without reasonable accommodations), they're capable of being waiters. If someone with OCD isn't capable of meeting the performance standards expected of them as a waiter (even with reasonable accommodations), they're not fit to be waiters.
      You seem to strongly believe in treating people with disabilities with respect. I also strongly believe in treating people with disabilities with respect. I wish you the best.

      I see it more as: why is the manager leaving him to the wolves. Like the claim is “we wanted to give him a chance” but they also haven’t given him the tools that he needs to succeed. Like sometimes helping someone with a disability means giving them specific accommodations for what they need, not just treating them like everyone else but rather making sure they are set up with what they need to do their job effectively.

      Im sorry miss, but mentally ill (your language, i prefer to use people with special needs) people cant have same rights and privileges as normal people, they're special they need more rights and more privileges, youre special. It hurts me so much when special needs people try to be normal without friend or family watching over them and encounters problem that they expected.
      Of course they can work in public place but they need to be ready for it cause ofc occasionally people would help but you cant always depends on people kindness just because you want to be "normal" while you dont have the power to keep ur illness on check, stop pretending to be normal, special people need special treatment and special care. Dont be those special needs people who wanted to be normal but when things get rough they play the "i have condition" card.
      Im sure half the assumptions that say "mental illness people shouldnt work in public place" (if any) came from somewhere also like from this episode for example, does the customer have to get and write their own needs cause the waitress got an OCD and worried about much things? In this case he cant even picked up the spoon on the floor where he can just wrap it with the handkerchief and change for the new spoon, its still too acute and he clearly is not in position to be working for long hours or without supervision.
      God made you special, why be normal? Everyone need kindness but i just feel sad if the life of special needs people bring sadness and tears (and God forbid, pity) from people around them, people with special needs are not drenched puppies in the rain, they're fellow human being who just happened to be different than the rest of people.

    In my opinion, the disabled women needs to be more kind to other disabled people. I work as a waitress and I was like guy in the video. OCD is no fun. It was really hard at first and I got so many rude comments, even from people who have mental and physical disabilities. Over the last year I have gotten much better at my job and it takes time. People who have disabilities and do something for the first time, it takes a while and we shouldn't expect to be perfect at first. But you also have to make sure you don't get a job you can't handle because you might feel miserable and stressed all the time. When you're disabled you have to get a job that challenges you, but something that you can handle.

    Also me: sees John Quinones at the foot of my bed
    John Quinones: Hi I'm John Quinones and this is what would you do. It's okay, no need to worry. It's just a TV show!
    Me: why are you here? What did I do? I don't see what the situation is...
    John Quinones: It's okay, it's just a TV show. Now, what made you want to wake up on time? That was really amazing.
    Me: My alarm... Now why are you in my house again?
    John Quinones: I know, it's a little emotional, the situation, but you handled it amazing!
    Me:... I'll just go back to bed now...

    I was looking for an OCD episode because i have it myself. It's so nice hearing people stick up for all of them but seeing my own just makes me feel warm.
