Ok. This was great. As a newly appointed Librarian, the idead of covering books terrified me. I successfully covered a dozen paperback novels today perfectly.
@@DesertMouse298 For paperbacks I normally use a delayed bond adhesive cover that is generally 80-100 microns. Somthing like this product shop.raeco.com.au/products/25325CA
How very sweet of you to have taken the trouble to share! I pity those who have not learned to cover a book. I learned it way back when I was a student, with brown paper that we used to use then. So I could follow your instructions without trouble. Otherwise, I doubt if I could have, and I would be so confused. Don't worry, kids and teachers who don't know this - everything comes only with practice. Trial and error - it's the same for everyone and you're not alone. I just saw in another video where they said not to throw away the bits because they will come in handy to repair wear and tear over time and the triangular bits can be used to reinforce the four outer corner edges inside of the front and back book covers
Thanks for the video. By the way, keep the corners that you cut off on the sides and you can place them on the inside corners of the front and back flaps to reinforce the book corners.
8/10/24 @ 10:51pm - so thankful I found this video!!!! I managed to cover my grandkids’ books to help out my daughter. No more headaches, no more fears with using contact paper to cover books!!!!
Best demonstration! Last year I watched some tips and kept getting bubbles. This year - 1st try following your tips - no bubbles and sooo easy! Thank you foe taking the time to do this.
Thank you so much! I just got a donation and had to order my books off of a website that mostly offers paperbacks. So sharing your knowledge is much appreciated.
Thank you so very much for finding the perfect way to cover books! I am a third year librarian, but still hadn't really figured out this whole mess. You've made my life so much easier right now!
I’ve watched quite a few of these TH-cam videos about covering books with contact paper, and your video is easily the best of the lot. You made it very easy to understand what you were doing, and I loved your bubbly personality. I have now covered 1 out of 3 books, that are about the best parrot foods, vitamins, health care and parrot food recipes. Thank you so much from the UK for making this video. Stay safe.
Thank you! My son starts school on Tuesday, so I'm doing this for the first time. I watched your video first, the book/ruler is great! Thank you for sharing! Best of luck for the school year ahead x
I have been making slip cases out of cardboard and wondering how to adhere contact paper protective covers. This has been a tremendous help working it out!
Omg thank you soon much, just attempted 2 of the 9 books that I have to cover for my daughter for prep this year and I nailed it first time! No waste, legend
This is so helpful! I had to do covers as a kid but that was so long ago that I don't remember. I'm a busy mom and this was so simple and quick to follow for my daughter's books. Thank you!
This is a GREAT video. Best one I found and super easy to use. Only question I have is, when you say to measure your book cover, how much overhang did you have? Was it like 2 inches or just 1 inch?? Thanks
Hello i just want to know how was your book that is covered with contact paper it is still okay? Any problems with yellowing, becoming brittle, or color leaching over the years because i know some contact paper are not acid free.
Thanks, I need to cover a few of my Linux books as they're classics and need to be kept well. By the way, don't mean to be too particular, but you mentioned "getting your scissor", its either scissors, or pair of scissors.
Thanks, Very helpful video, but does it work on drywall? Only asking because my son wipes his boogers on the wall and I was hoping to preserve it for the next tenants who move in. Our lease says no wallpaper, but there aren't any rules about contact paper.
@@elizakavon4923 well…that’s a good question, Eliza, thank you for asking! I could have sworn I left a comment but my poor old mind does wander so I’m really grateful for your comment. It has been SO much fun and worked really well. I’m not sure you’d be interested beyond that but for what it’s worth I’m kinda obsessed with kawai/ergonomic/asmr - what my sister describes as “chewy”, or tactile, if that makes sense. I cover the book in a light colour (if necessary) then literally load it with a million stickers, covering the entire thing and overlapping/using clear-backed ones over paper stickers and then cover the whole thing with contact, following this fantastic video. What you get is really lovely to look at and most of all touch, so it makes studying/reading so much more enjoyable. It takes ages so I don’t do it often but the odd opportunity is very therapeutic! Thanks again Eliza and very best to you and yours.🥰
@@penelopehughes-jones5265 Thank you for replying! I was honestly so curious! What you did with the contact paper sounds really cool and interesting. I’ll definitely have to look into it. I used contact paper to cover some of my favorite paperback books, but your response has given me ideas about how to decorate my notebooks for school. Thanks! My very best to you as well! :D
@@elizakavon4923 Thanks Eliza, sos it took me ages to say it but thanks. I admire you for using it on paperbacks because it's so hard to do a neat job. After watching this I saw an IHannah video (I'll add the link if I can) and it inspired me to use stickers but the plastering effect just happened as I went along. I recently bought a clear phone case and did a similar thing but that's so much easier if your phone is a light color. I wonder if anyone's painted a phone?! I shpuld get an iPhone but they're sooo expensive. Anyway I hope you have fun, contact paper is definitely the way forward, I am learning Welsh and it makes me so want to study! Hugs & love xx🥰xx

Is this what libraries normally use? I have seen paperback with a really thick cover on them. Is this option available to the home librarian? Thanks!

Awesome 😳. Thanks so much!
This is a lifesaver
What does it feel like? Is it a nice slippery surface ? Or more grainy paper feel?
I would call it a matte texture.
Thank you for sharing !
Anyone know , why we need to cut corners in triangle shapes ? Why not straight
It makes for folding it over to the other side easier. If you cut them straight there may be extra contact paper off the edge of the book.
Your a lifesaver
The Speedball squeegee is great for this
GOOD JOB!
great work
Helpful, thanks!

Well done, thanks!

The first step is measuring for the cut, which this video needs to explain.
