    See, I'm of the opinion books should already come with these protections.

    FYI. White hinge tape is a last resort protection measure as described here. As you can tell, the tape itself is damaging through defacement.

      I was wondering about a clear hinge tape that reinforces without blocking the insides visually.

      Use Kapco’s Easy Bind. It’s clear, and it’s very durable.

    Defacing the printed end papers with white tape is a form of damage.

    I bought 4 mm mylar roll to protect my hardcover books without dust jacket.
    I find this is harder than using 1.5 mm just-a-fold sheets for dust jackets.

    What kind of tape would you recommend to bind dust cover jacket to book?

    Is there a link to the product used when protecting the book at the 2:00 mark? They don't even tell you which cover it is, despite going into detail every OTHER book cover they offer.

    Can you just use contact paper on a dust jacket?

    • @RoastBeefSandwich
      @RoastBeefSandwich 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes but contact paper may not be acid free and may yellow the paper over time.

      @Kelly Posey Don't fret. I found plastic covers like this and treat my dust jackets with the utmost care.

      I have done this. I prefer using the folding book jacket covers. Plus you can remove/replace them ensuring zero damage. Just don't use tape like they do in this video.

    Protect a book by destroying it with tape. Great plan.

    • @Schuyler2614

      I'd personally never tape a book unless I was repairing existing damage -- I'm just a private collector and my books are generally only handled by myself and people I trust to take good care of them -- but I imagine the idea is to protect reading / circulating copies that are going to see heavy use and _will_ sooner or later have their hinges destroyed without reinforcement. In such cases the value is going to tank either way and the protection provided by the tape will be far more practical in the long run than fruitlessly trying to preserve the appearance of the endpapers. It's not for high value collector's items that will be handled very carefully if at all and need to be kept in optimal condition.

      Unless you want the cover to be permanently attached to the dust jacket, I probably wouldn't. I don't want to change the integrity of the cover at all, just protect it.
