How to change rubber tracks (not steel tracks) on a mini excavator.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to take a factory track off a mini excavator and replace it with an aftermarket track. For the demonstration, we're using a John Deere 35G, but you can apply this method to just about any mini excavator.
Tools needed:
- A simple chisel bar or just a long pry bar (find this at any tool outfit store or hardware store)
- A 19-millimetre open-end wrench so you can pull the grease valve out and reinstall it
- A grease gun (manual grease gun, pneumatic grease gun, or electric grease gun)
To change the track, you'll need to lift the mini excavator in the air, which can be done with or without a blade. Make sure you're on flat ground when you do this!
Lifting a mini excavator WITH a blade:
1. Push the blade down into the ground on the back-end
2. Push the boom and bucket down into the ground on the front-end
3. As you push the boom and bucket the mini excavator will be lifted
Lifting a mini excavator WITHOUT a blade:
1. Position the boom and bucket to the side of the vehicle, parallel to the track
2. Push the boom and bucket down into the ground to lift the mini excavator
Whenever you're working on a track and you have an operator in the machine make sure your operator lifts the safety lever. Otherwise, if you accidentally bump the lever the machine could drop.
Now you're ready to change the rubber track.
Once you're done changing the track, we recommend you run the track forwards and backward to make sure it has the proper tension.

When my track came off and I was on the side of a steep hill. I thought for sure I was shutdown for quite some time. Very good and educational video. The only remark is I would consider putting a stand jack under the house to be sure in case of any hydraulic rupture it will not fall or crush me
Thnx!!! I belted off and was stuck in pretty deep mud (!). This video gave me the method to get it on again. With nobody to help me, I pulled a rope attached to the belt lever - out the front window, to drive the track on, and it worked! I also used a hi-lift jack and ropes, to jack the belt into position

@@TekamoHD dug out 40 inch wide by 48 inch deep trench for a 26x30 garage frost walls up here in alberta Canada. Small machine I thought when I received it, but got it done in 9 hours. Slow and steady for me as I've never run anything besides a bobcat before. Thanks again

@@TekamoHD It went very well. My machine's tracks are a bit heavier (KX-121). Doing it myself was a little more difficult to manuver the track. So I ended up putting the tracks on dollies with a bottle jack in the center to hold up the center sag. Then I was able to roll the track under the machine with little effort. From there, I manipulated it around the sprocket and pully with a bar.
I can't offer any feedback on the video itself because it was very clean, to the point, good light, sound etc. Thanks again

I have a jcb 8045 and I’m having trouble getting the track on due to the tensioner not going all the way back. I have the grease fitting completely out and I’m wondering is there something else I need to do to release pressure so the wheel will go back all the way? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

With the one inch clearance at bottom - does that not increase risk of track coming off? I have seen other youtube videos where they adjust it until it slightly goes in sprocket. I will have to find my manual to see what is manufacture recommended!
I think the spec is like half to 3/4inch. His amount should lead to less wear. You could always tighten it for hill working and then let a little grease back out for operating on level ground 👍

When re-installing the track back on the machine the

My education in Brazil is an electromechanical technician, in the first comment I put a mechanic, but in fact I have 15 years of experience as a technician. The fleet I work with is Sandvik, Atlas copco and Cubex. Do I have chances to work in my area out there?

This looks so easy, as is should be. I have a JCB 8030ZTS, and even when we put the idler all the way in, the track was so tight we couldn't get it on. Terrible design if you ask me. 🤔

How to removed the ignition switch
Hi Serge, are you removing the ignition switch on a John Deere 35G or a different machine? We have a video on a PC200LC coming up on that topic in Episode 4.
Always makes me laugh how many people make out this is such a big job to do, the reality is it’s easier than changing a tyre on a car. Iv got an old worn set that I put on for concrete work and a good set for mud work so I change them a lot and start to finish takes about 8 minutes the pair.

Several safety issues my friend that made me cringe a bit.
When?
Pretty much every time the fella on the ground gets near that machine within reach of that boom with an operator in the machine with the hydraulics engaged. But especially every time the fella on the ground has contact with that digging bar inserted into the track while it is in motion. @@lolosaulala48
@@lolosaulala48 Primarily when the fella is in contact with the bar while track is in motion. NEVER a good idea to be anywhere near a machine like that with the engine running and an operator in the seat. I began operating equipment in 1978 which has ranged from small trenchers all the way up to D8 Caterpillar dozers and trained on heavy equipment at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri during my A.I.T. training as well. Seriously, l believe the safety issues of this video would never come close to getting a passing grade from OSHA.
