This is one awesome video that showcases an amazing collection that I must agree would be impossible to put together today even if money was not an issue. I can't speak for others but I would definitely love to see more of these one of a kind collections and learn the history behind each of them.
What a wondeful story and collection. Thanks for the video! I replied to an ad a couple of years ago, an old fellow was dying of cancer and wanted to sell off his collection... it was better than going into any museum I had ever seen. Not as focused like your video on a series of manufacturers, but just a massive collection of rods and reels and flies and lures, anything and everything to do with fishing. Shelves floor to ceiling packed to overflowing with reels. Piles of tackle boxes. I could only buy a few items from him, but he had offered the entire lot for $100,000, and I'm sure it would have been the deal of a lifetime. He said one fellow had showed up and left with a huge armload of rods. I think if he had 100 people show up and "take as much as you can carry" for $1,000, there might still be some left...
My wife's father who lived in Palacios, Texas was good friends with Mr. Humphrey of Hump Lure Co. when he traveled alot selling his lures. He had boxed sets he used to show the different colors and sizes.. After my wifes father passed away she was given 2 of the boxed sets which none of the lures have been fished and are in their original boxes. She also has "Mr. Humps" personal Ambassadeur 6000 Baitcasting reel which he etched his name on and is in the original box. The price tag shows he paid $39.99 at Wilson's.
As a native Texan I have good memories of my family’s fishing trip to Corpus and Rock Port back in the late 40’s and 50’s.My dad bought bingo lures to catch Hugh trout and red fish.As a kid I got into bass fishing,there was one particular lure that my dad bought me called sail shark and turned out to be the best lure in my tackle box, I caught many a Hugh bass with it. I remember back in the fifties most of your stores,mom and pop stores, and gas stations had upright spinning racks with hundreds of bingo lures. I cut many a yard in the summer to make money to buy my fishing lures.Life was more simpler back in the day!
Okay I have never sit and hear an old guy tell stories for more than five minutes and here I am enjoying almost half an hour man this channel is so underrated
This one is up my alley-My Pops and his buddy collected quite a few Bingos, Doug English baits, Mirrolures, Picos, etc. over the years. He still used a hot pink bingo in the winter time for seatrout before he had a stroke in 2013. He’s still with us, My love of fishing was instilled from him. I exclusively fish Chocolate Bayou/Bay in the Galveston bay complex. Lute’s Marina used to have the bingo toilet seat-When I was a kid, every time we launched our boat there, I would always go to the bathroom to ogle over that seat, lol.

Not just fishing but many other things. I know I learned more about machining from the old guys at the shop than any book or anything I ever studied! That's applicable to most all topics in life really. What worries me is that information gets lost or forgotten about generationally. Good thing there's a lot of us "younger" guys seeking this knowledge to keep it all alive. Take care bassin bud.

Unless I’m fishing I love starting my Saturday with coffee and a new RetroBassin video. As a proud native Texan I appreciate the time and work you put into your channel. It’s actually got me working on a collection of vintage baits starting with what I bought in 80’s as a kid that I’ve retired along with my dads stuff. I have enough new tackle to last years so now I like to hunt for vintage gear instead.
It's slowly blowing up. It's kind of a niche subject and topic, but there are easily a couple hundred thousand potential subs that just haven't found it yet. I'm going to predict this channels subs will multiply by at least a factor of 5 by the beginning of 2022.
This man is a great natural story teller. Wow what a find.In a world without internet it took him 25 years to find others who love to do what he does, think about that. Content is really good lately, keep it up.
My wife's uncle collected for years before he passed at 79. He specialized in rare lures, made by some of the smaller companies, and had many that were the only one of that color/model known to exist. Just like this gentleman he had encyclopedic knowledge of his entire collection. I never thought about recording him sharing that knowledge with me on my visits. This is a wonderful video!

Great story. I happen to have two lures remaining from the 60's and 70s dad and I used on the Galveston beach front, Galveston South and Freeport Jetties(1 plugging shorty and 1 bingo) I'll fish with during my retro lure episode of Fishing with LeMaura. Thank you for the history lesson.
This episode was awesome. Love the stories, love the old lures, love how much he loved his collection and the memories it brought him. Simply outstanding. Now, all that being said, on to you Chris. You slam Googan, like a lot, and I know it's all in jest. But, if you want to make a lot of people happy, you NEED to do a vid with one of the cooler members of the Googan Squad, just for fun. My recommendation would be Luke (fishingwithnorm) or TJ (YakPak). They both bring the same enthusiasm to the sport and get geeked out on old stuff just like you. It would, for sure, be #retrogold.

I have a hand full of Triple Chance Fishing Spoons, I still fish them and caught two of the Biggest Sea Trout (6-7 lbs) on a slack tide behind the San Louis Pass, using the Triple Chance Spoon next to the older Johnson Silver Minnow Spoons are the most versatile spoons ever built! I've never found a original patent triple chance weedless spoon! Just the spoons the spoons with a split ring and triple hook & mylar shirts! That was a great interview! I met Greg Berlacher in Rockport and became friends with him. He bought the rights to Bingo lures. He gave me four prototypes a few years back to try out. I still have them and they're in perfect condition. I don't think he ever mass-produced them. I haven't seen him in years.
I just found you channel recently. Really enjoy it. I have 3 original shimano bantam 100's still use them. They are my favorite. One has the replacement V spool and a largest gator crank handle. I have had them for about 37 years. I think they are virtually indestructible.
Nice, but I'll take Tornados.. Speaking of which, I'm FREAKING!! Lent my Last remaining Tornado to a local sport shop kid who was in a Bass tournament last night. (hoping to turn him RETRO). I have an origional Mitchell 300 new in box with a spare spool I picked up at a yard sale for $20. Still works great.
