Warn Winch Install | Yamaha Grizzly 700 | Tips+Tricks | Correct mount plate!

  • This is a quick and dirty "how-to" install of a Warn VRX 25S winch on a 2022 Yamaha Grizzly 700. Make sure to get the correct mount plate from Warn, or seek one from KFI like I did. KFI's website has mount plates for all the machines. I also used a wire lead from Yamaha to which allowed me to plug into the DC connection instead of splicing into it.
    Yamaha part number for wire lead: "5KM-86171-00-00"
    To replace the steel hook that the winch came with, I bought this from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC: "Universal Aluminum Winch Shackle". It's aluminum and light weight and it does not protrude out in front of the machine very far.
    let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks for doing these how-to's. I bought a 2022 Yamaha Kodiak 450 eps and am in the process of mounting up a Warn 3500-S (found a really good deal on the 3500 and it turned out to be cheaper than buying the 2500). I followed your old videos from when you had your 450, and it was a huge help. I decided to mount my contactor under the seat, so I had to make up 2 new wires (yellow and blue) to go from the contactor under the seat to the winch.
    This my first ATV, now I just need the trails to open and the snow to melt so I can get out and start enjoying my new toy.

      Heck yeah. 450s are beasts. I can't wait for the summer riding season either.

    The tip on the mounting plate saved me a lot of heartbreak (and heartburn, for that matter!). Ordered the KFI per your recommendation, it fit like a glove to the machine and the winch, except the holes for the control box (I installed a Badland winch, not a Warn, the Badland control box doesn't have exposed electric contacts) didn't quite match. 10 minutes with a round file took care of it. Thanks!!

    Just installed the same on my 2019. Thanks for the heads-up on the KFI mounting plate and doing plate, then winch installation.

    It’s been several years since I done a winch . Matter of fact it was my 2012 Brute Force 750. I’m not sure I have the patience anymore lol.
    I mounted the contactor under the seat on it . Can’t remember about what we did for the power to the switch . Seems I remember whatever winch I had bought at the time had plenty of long wiring to go from under the seat to the contactor however .
    Good work on yours , as long as it works , nothing else matters .

    Great video, I just wanted to get clarification, I'm going to install the same winch but with the steel rope....so, was there only an issue with the warn mount when used w/synthetic rope? Or can I use the KFI mount w/steel rope too? 2021 Grizzly 700 EPS

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you purchased Warn's mounting plate for steel rope then you should be perfectly fine as it has a slightly different front end on it. I specifically chose the combo kit for the synthetic rope version which included the winch and mounting plate for a hawse fairlead. Essentially warn as two different mount plates to accept the two different styles of fairleads, rollers for steel rope versus hawse for synthetic line. So I think you're good. I hope that answers your question

    Between the battery and the steering column I found a white 4 pin connector that is not being used. What is that for? I just want to make sure its not for diagnostics or something important and if so I want to make sure my contactor mount doesn't interfere with its use.

    • @ThomperBeThompin

      I'm not sure. You can probably find a parts schematic online that might be able to tell you what that's for

    How did you connect the red wire from the switch to the wire lead ? , thanks for the video

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a simple bullet-style connection. Just feed it in, crimp it down. I usually put some heat shrink wrap on the wire first, so you can seal it up after connecting. Then, as another layer of precaution, I usually wrap it in electrical tape.

      @ThomperBeThompin  ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on your new quad. I just use some simple rattle can spray paint I got from a local craft store. There are a couple brands that sell something really close in color. I recommend a glossy finish because it's easier to wash off

    Hi thanks for the video very helpful. I'm about to place an order for the exact setup you have. Is there any way the Warn winch plate can be made to fit? I have a completely stock 2022 Yamaha Grizzly 700 SE. Thanks

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, you can make it fit. If you look in the video you'll see some white lines on the winch plate where I was going to cut the metal and notch those areas out. I feel fully confident you could do that and it will be just as strong as it needs to be.

    Hey bro!!! I’m found a Kodiak 450 and went I call the sale guy toll me they where missing the rear shock because they were lost in shipment, went I went to see it the plastics where damage and only one shock was missing. I put a deposit on it, and the manager said that he was goin to repair everything and make seem like nothing happened to it. Should I wait for that one or should I tell him to order me another one. I need some advice

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shoot, that's a bummer. How does a single rear shock get "lost in shipment"?!?. I would take an extremely close look at the frame and ALL suspension components. If the plastics were damaged, it must have taken a good hit in shipping. I personally would order a different one. That said, maybe you could get this one with a FREE extended warranty, or a big discount on the purchase price. If you go that route, while looking the machine over, look for any detached wires, missing hardware, and any bent frame components. Even if the painted finish on the frame is "crinkled" I would not touch it. So, it all depends on what you're comfortable with.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, these are the ones from Kolpin. They come with mounts and I got them from Amazon. My tip: I had to tighten the bolt that connects the mount to the guard pretty hard to make sure they don't move around. But, have had these on three different ATVs and am happy with them. Just search "Kolpin handguards" on Amazon. They are about $50
