Bassvine um the last 2 Mission Impossible movies were incredible. Maybe storywise not as good, but the most recent is one of the best action movies of this millennium so far.
Wow! Glorious! The protagonist of one of the top action adventure spy films of its decade doesn't even fire a firearm in the film! I love that! This film has superbly sophisticated direction and screen writing!
As far as I’m concerned this is one of the best action scenes in movie history that is almost realistic in every way. Don’t like any of the Mission impossibles only this one.
eating sugar no papa Well it’s a matter of opinion. I think Mission impossible is not suppose to be a all out action gung ho thriller. 4 to 6 is just him doing the same thing but differently. Half of the time he is running but the stunts are excellent but it’s just too action and stunt based with a overly complicated plot. Just like Fast and Furious one being the best cus it sticks to it plot car racing, MI1 is true to it original story. This is how franchises deteriorate just look at the bond franchise, M and Money penny with a gun? Need I say more.
It will always be the best because it’s the only one in the entire series that can be considered a true “spy film,” and not just an action movie. It’s also the only movie in which Hunt never fires a gun.
This is a class scene, one thing I like about this scene is you dont see that funny outline arnd the actors, like in other movies where you can see they are blatantly behind a blue/green screen, like pause at 1:40 and take a good look for yourself it blends very well, Its very well shot.
Agreed.....the green screen blends perfectly - it looks very convincing. I've always loved this scene. it has aged wonderfully - still looks great. No matter how unbelievable it may be - that's the point - this is Mission IMPOSSSIBLE.
Kelvin McBride Exactly, the action was perfect in MI1, the sequels just got too ott and basically all tried to rip-off this original, especially the Terminal Room action scene, just masterful and very simple action scene, pure practical and authentic too.
It is strange to see Tom Cruise so young, especially while re-watching this for the first time in years and realizing this was the very first Tom Cruise movie I ever watched.
Actually this is the film that shoulda been called "RISKY BUSINESS!!!" LOL! :P (Love this scene!!!) ...n' ppl can say what they wanna 'bout Tom Cruise, but the dude's got "MAJOR BULL BAWLZ!!!" :) (*think that tower in Dubai too!)
Channel Tunnel width : 7.6-metres MD-500 Helicopter - Main rotor diameter: 8.33 metres Mission Impossible : Portrays an impossible action, so I guess it lives up to its name. Also - the trains that use the train are electric. Where are the overhead wires that conduct the electricity? This made Voight's escape plan impossible even without Ethan's interference.
Theoretically they could be running on third rail like the eurostar did between the channel tunnel and London. But I think they're still on the french side and the TGV doesn‘t run on third rail.
Whats impossible is a TGV operating on a non electrified line, there should be a 25kv AC line above the train which would make what Tom Cruise is doing suicidal.
Probably because that dude killed his friends and he felt like he had gotten his revenge on him. But the dude is a solid helicopter pilot and managed to get into the tunnel in time.
He did stunts here as well. Obviously they're not actually riding on top of a 200mph train, but they did film this using an extremely powerful wind machine and Cruise really did make the leap from the 'helicopter' prop to the 'train' prop later in the scene.
I have seen this movie for more than 20 times, one of my friend dint like it and he told me that, to which I was so bummed that I dint talk with him for a couple of weeks 🤣
fun fact: this train in this scene is an italian TGV..But this scene doesn't make any sense because i don't see any overhead wires because the basis of train does have pantographs, and if the train runs on batteries then that would be not efficient for a high-speed train having alot of power to be fast like that and i don't see 3rd rail either, so this scene is made up.
I always found (on rewatch) that (sorry I don't know his name) elevator hacker guy couldn't work his own tech yet Phelps mysteriously could control everything remotely such as that piece that appears and face paled him.
(Ethan jumps to the 🚁 chopper and pulls out a explosive chewing gum) Ethan Hunt: Red light! Green light! (Ethan places it on the 🪟 window and then it blows up and he jumps back to the train 🚆)
Where's a clip of MTV VJ Kennedy interviewing Martin Landau on the red carpet for the first movie, and her not knowing he was in the original TV series, and him calling her out on it? I've heard about it and apparently its solid fucking gold.
Going so fast, how did his shirt survive without blowing up his back and tearing at the hem. I wore a shirt like that on a motorcycle and that began to hurt at 60mph. Imagine how it feels at 300mph +
as a mission impossible series fan i do not like they made Jim as the villain/traitor..Jim is a god leader.geting rid of jim and making Ethan as a new leader ,
un TGV a vive allure sur une voie de chemin de fer non électrifier sur plusieurs dizaine de kilomètre , pas de doute c'est vraiment missions impossible.
At the end of this clip, the pilot shoves the cyclic forward aggressively and the copter dives down into the tunnel. In reality, that would make the helicopter go into a low g situation. not good. However, I wonder if because of the fact that the copter was tethered to the train, would that change the way the copter responds.
The only reason why people hate this movie is because they never liked the fact that Jim Phelps was a Villain. Peter Graves would have been happy to reprise his famous role had that not happened. In all fairness though it was still a good movie twist. Because until MI series fans seen the movie, they never saw it coming.
Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that Peter Graves was asked to take on the role of Jim Phelps once more, myself...I remember reading that, after reading the script and learning he was gonna be made the main villain, shown betraying everything he was shown doing in the show he was in, and the character he played for so long, he flat out refused! He wasn't the only original cast member a little....angered by this plot twist, or the film itself! Greg Morris, who played Barney Collier was reported to have gotten up and walked out of the theatre he was watching this movie in before the movie even ended! Martin Landau, who played Rollin Hand expressed his distaste for the film in an interview, stating, "When they were working on an early incarnation of the first one - not the script they ultimately did - they wanted the entire team to be destroyed, done away with one at a time, and I was against that. It was basically an action-adventure movie and not Mission. Mission was a mind game. The ideal mission was getting in and getting out without anyone ever knowing we were there. So the whole texture changed. Why volunteer to essentially have our characters commit suicide? I passed on it ... The script wasn't that good either!" And as much as I liked the movie, I agree with them that it was a little disappointing to see this character, shown to be a man of integrity and honor throughout the many years of his service in the organization for which he worked get thrown in the mud! But, I cannot deny that it is a unique and interesting plot twist that takes the movie, and makes it into something that is its own, separate story!
Just like how no one would believe they would sink so low as to resort to defecating on the name of a beloved character just to make a stupid plot twist
I went to see this in the theaters 4 times just for the scene alone. Simply amazing and epic. I love how there was no music at first.
Brilliant comment .
I did too.
And same with Highlander
This scene puts the “Impossible” in Mission Impossible.
This movie is severely underrated.
Chris Stuckmann Holy shitz... is you 😂
Agreed
👍
Bassvine um the last 2 Mission Impossible movies were incredible. Maybe storywise not as good, but the most recent is one of the best action movies of this millennium so far.
I think Goldeneye came out the same year so both films were compared a lot, pushing this one under the carpet by many.
Currently re-watching the franchise. What an incredible scene. M:I 1 is a great spy film. Ethan doesn't even fire a gun!
Wow! Glorious! The protagonist of one of the top action adventure spy films of its decade doesn't even fire a firearm in the film! I love that! This film has superbly sophisticated direction and screen writing!
My grandfather was really amazed by this action sequence and said he never saw anything like that before.
true... 1996 release and it was so groundbreaking and it looks so real with the trees and wind and Tom Cruise hanging on for dear life....
It still holds up pretty well today.
As far as I’m concerned this is one of the best action scenes in movie history that is almost realistic in every way. Don’t like any of the Mission impossibles only this one.

wamu lume Compare that to the Tsunami Surfing scene from Die Another Day and it looks fake as hell. This scene on the other hand is amazing.
ICONIC. I remember seeing this as a kid and ever since, I’ve loved train sequences in film.
There were some classics in the 90's
Lots
Toy Story!
One of the most bad ass scenes I have ever scene in any movie in all of existence.
This still holds up as the best Mission Impossible film.
It's no longer the best one the moment MI:3 came out.
@@Alvin_Vivian Nah it's still the best.
It’s the most faithful to the TV show, but it’s not the best of the franchise anymore
Special effects hold up really well in 2022.
It will always be the best because it’s the only one in the entire series that can be considered a true “spy film,” and not just an action movie. It’s also the only movie in which Hunt never fires a gun.
02:07 Best "fucked up situation" look ever
He looks like he's smacking one off.
My face when my Gf asks me if I'm inside yet 😭

always loved this scene!
Yay a TGV atlantique train (no 336) complete with SNCF logo, in Scotland, on a non electrified line.
Exactly....it doesn't make any sense
I was 11 when this film came out in 1996. Had a huge crush on Emmanuelle Beart. Miss the 90s
Hope to relive like a dvd.
1996: CGI
2022: Riding a train for real
Love that scream of defiance at 1:55. LOL
If you speed this up its probably the real speed of being on top of that train.
you probably dont know the camera man was the speed the person on this movie
So this was the original high-speed train fight scene... I'm here after watching Dead Reckoning Part One.
Damnit poor John Vaught and his runaway trains lol
My favorite action movie franchise!
It is strange to see Tom Cruise so young, especially while re-watching this for the first time in years and realizing this was the very first Tom Cruise movie I ever watched.
Real life TGV has overhead wires and does not run on Eurostar tracks for the Eurotunnel..
Tom cruise is trying to defying law of physics
is that disel TGV LOL
1:55 "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" *Kicked off the side.* WTH Ethan?
It’s a war cry.
Man I could feel that I fucking got you roar at 1:55...
That's just insane. I mean... 1996 ? Damnnnnnn.
Ermm… A high speed train with no overhead line (it should be 25 000 V AC 50Hz) and rolling on the right… Now that's weird !
It's not a mistake, they are just hoping people don't realize it. The whole scene wouldn't be possible then with overhead wires.
Better picture and effects than today
Wow this holds up so well it straight up looks real in some shots
This scene holds up so well.
it's 2021... and no movie came this close in terms of action
In the 90s it was epic
Fastest heli ever)))
This movie did make one goddamn but of sense.
+The Crimson Fucker ... irony at its finest
Yeah the plot's a mess but the action scenes are one of a kind.
Channel Tunnel width : 7.6-metres
MD-500 Helicopter - Main rotor diameter: 8.33 metres
Mission Impossible : Portrays an impossible action, so I guess it lives up to its name.
Also - the trains that use the train are electric. Where are the overhead wires that conduct the electricity? This made Voight's escape plan impossible even without Ethan's interference.
Exactly. Even back then when I saw it on the big screen I was already thinking "where is the rail catenary"?
Theoretically they could be running on third rail like the eurostar did between the channel tunnel and London. But I think they're still on the french side and the TGV doesn‘t run on third rail.
Train Speed 300-500 km / hr more than fight scene surprised 😁😁😁😁😁 my fav
Whats impossible is a TGV operating on a non electrified line, there should be a 25kv AC line above the train which would make what Tom Cruise is doing suicidal.
Cool scene but no overhead 25kv to keep her 300km/h speed.
filmed in Scotland :)
It was filmed in Scotland outside Dumfries
Nope, in France
Elfman's scoring here is brilliant.
When the " Mission Impossible theme" kicks in ...... oh yeah
I love this scene, the scream at 1:55 always confused me tho haha
Probably because that dude killed his friends and he felt like he had gotten his revenge on him. But the dude is a solid helicopter pilot and managed to get into the tunnel in time.
😂😂 me too
Me too, I always saw this as Ethan screaming in triumph for cornering the guy.
First awesome, second was horrific, third and fourth good.
When Tom Cruise becomes an icon of Ethan Hunt in M:I !
They are gonna do another version of this in MI7.....it seems so from the trailer......
Back on the Train for MI7 :))
Where are the electrical wires?
Le meilleur film mission impossible tout simplement 👍
Still holds up
Tom Cruise Vs Jon Voight And Jean Reno (Part 1)
Toms shirt is really really tucked in securely.
If it wasn’t tucked in, it would have gone with the jacket. At 240-300mph I don’t think there would be much left of it.
No CGI in Mi7 .. he's gonna be on a proper train PMSL!
Now Tom does the stunts for real. He's crazy awesome!
He did stunts here as well. Obviously they're not actually riding on top of a 200mph train, but they did film this using an extremely powerful wind machine and Cruise really did make the leap from the 'helicopter' prop to the 'train' prop later in the scene.

Joy To The World
The future HS3 'Paris-Glasgow' is there.
The man is awesome much love Tom

God, I love this scene.
But how can a TGV run without an overhead line unless the lead lok had a diesel fitted?
Watch in 2x speed for even more insane speed
2 Big Problems. TGVs don't travel on the right in France and HS1-England and they run on AC Catenary
I always found (on rewatch) that (sorry I don't know his name) elevator hacker guy couldn't work his own tech yet Phelps mysteriously could control everything remotely such as that piece that appears and face paled him.
yeah, phelps was the equivalent in experiencie and hability to ethan hawk from fallout
passes gas at 1:01 :)
HAHHAHAHA
@@AlienRockPictures HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
man imagine being on that train
The 4th was the best besides the first.
(Ethan jumps to the 🚁 chopper and pulls out a explosive chewing gum)
Ethan Hunt: Red light! Green light!
(Ethan places it on the 🪟 window and then it blows up and he jumps back to the train 🚆)
best part...AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

This is why you have a quick release on the helicopter side.
running TGV with no using pantograph? LOL :D
This gotta be green screen right? Or just like the sequels is this real?
Looks like were getting another fight on top of a train with kitridge on the inside in mission impossible 7
Entertainment?
DO YOU REMEMBER THAT?
un TGV a vive allure sur une voie de chemin de fer non électrifier sur plusieurs dizaine de kilomètre , pas de doute c'est vraiment missions impossible.
BRO THAT TGV IS FAST
At the end of this clip, the pilot shoves the cyclic forward aggressively and the copter dives down into the tunnel. In reality, that would make the helicopter go into a low g situation. not good. However, I wonder if because of the fact that the copter was tethered to the train, would that change the way the copter responds.
Awesome scene, but come on...a helicopter catching up to a train doing 190mph? Not going to happen. Very few helis can go that fast.
Very good
badass helo pilot
I live close to that bridge! it's in Scotland.
This looks 95-99 which is what's allowed on the British side and inthe Chunnel
NOelectric TGV? :D :D I don't know a worse movie scene. Train going at least 1000 km/h :D

Ever seen Manon Des Sources? great film....
Nathalie was also good....
European trains are really faaast!
If only Spider-Man was there...
I bet he dropped that knife on purpose
is that a real train? looks real! but it is gotta be freezing cold:P
They wanted to do this on a real TGV. The SNCF wouldn't allow it, so they did it in the studio and used CGI for the rest.
The last good Brian De Palma´s movie.
How did they film from the side view
Just like how no one would believe they would sink so low as to resort to defecating on the name of a beloved character just to make a stupid plot twist
Wehre the hell is the catenary
magic of cinema
this totally ruin this scene when I saw it in theatre.
