    Those magnificent men in their flying machine. Those days flying an aircraft was tough both mental and physically. Great video.

    Having had the privilege to see and film the AN-12 a few times myself I always enjoy seeing the unusual shape and the smoke trails and hearing that great prop sound. This video is brilliant. Had me completely engrossed. The crew really do work hard to fly that aircraft. Amazing footage and that sound when taxiing after landing ... goosebumps all the way. Great video.

    There are lots of comments about both pilots flying the plane at the same time with their hands on both control-yokes. For some brief periods, this is true but most of the time, the pilot in the right seat keeps his hands near or is lightly touching the yoke to press the radio-transmit button, and he is not assisting the other pilot in controlling the aircraft.
    I have 2,000 hours of C-130 time and takeoffs and landings is a team effort. When taking off, the pilot has his left hand on the nose-wheel steering and his right hand controlling the throttles. Meanwhile, the co-pilot controls the yoke, pushing slightly forward to keep the nose-wheel firmly planted, and if there is a crosswind, he puts in full right or left aileron to keep the wings level. As airspeed increases, he uses progressively less aileron to keep the wings level . Also, as airspeed increases and rudder becomes more effective, the pilot maintains directional control with the rudder, taking his left hand off of the nosewheel steering knob, calls "my yoke" to the co-pilot and takes full control of the yoke and throttles, pulling the nose off the ground and completing the takeoff.

    Looks very physical and actual flying rather than 'taking up a fully automated cigar tube. Probably a good idea, also a working Flight Engineer, far better idea rather than loading position1&2 with pilots who don't know nor fully understand the characteristics of the flight gear on their aircraft, Still prefer a pilot who knows and can flyhis machine,unlike Airbus where the pilots are little more than bus drivers,and the Airbus has had its share of mishaps as a result,theA380 no longer appears the flavor of the month either. An excellent publication and well worth watching. I'll visit the other Russian aircraft sites too. Thank you all involved.

    This how REAL pilots do it. Like the pre glass cockpits of airliners, 1995... No automation except the autopilot and crew focused on one task. Seems the increased technology enhanced situational awareness but also brought laziness and distraction. Theres been 5x more accidents with the technology vs without.

      There are over pilot's head there is a place open, there's an element of the aircraft structure (metal sticks). When you take off and climb high enough (mine Celsius) the frost (condensation) will appear on the inside of the metal objects. When you then start to go down and go through the height at which the minus Celsius Celsius turns into a plus the lining is heated and this frost melts and drips from there. But there's not a lot of it.
      Have An-12 so sore over the commander.
      It is only in the summer, winter is not heated to the fuselage plus Celsius and this is no problem.

    Russian Tu154 is safer than B727. Here's why: Tu154 is similar to B727(both have almost the same specs [so don't compare Tu154 with B757]). B727 (1,832 units built) hull-loss occurrencies -119 (6.49%). Tu154 (1,026 units built) - hull-loss occurrencies - 69 (6,72%). So 6.49% vs 6.72% is almost the same 6.5% crash rate. Since almost all B727 stopped flying in 2001, and Tu154 is still flying today, so I'd say Tu-154 is a bit safer than B727. P.S. How to calculate: ex 119x100/1832=6.49%..... etc.

    • @alexborderli3772
      @alexborderli3772 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now let's compare all accidents (including the hull-loss accidents) of both planes. Tu 154 - all accidents 110 (or 10.7%). B727 all accidents - 344 (or 18.7%). So 18.7% of B727 vs only 10.7% of Tu154. Which plane is better? Taking into account the statistics, I would say Tu154.

    • @alexborderli3772
      @alexborderli3772 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SLUSARCZUK, telling people about accidents/crashes in the media and maintaining a crash database and making a detailed analysis of the accidents/crashes with the aircraft maintainence personnel and the pilots is not the same thing. In soviet union all accidents were open to the aviation professionals and discussed with them (in russian it means "razbori"), but they were not readily available to the general public.................As for Bolsheviks (I don't know why you mentioned it) - derived from "majority", literally meaning "one of the majority" - were a faction of the Marxist Russian Social DEMOCRATIC LABOR Party (RSDLP) which split apart from the Menshevik (Minority) faction at the Second Party Congress in 1903. The RSDLP was a revolutionary socialist political party formed in 1898 in Minsk in Belarus to unite the various revolutionary organisations of the Russian Empire into one party. In the Second Party Congress vote, the Bolsheviks WON on the majority of important issues, hence their name. They ultimately became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The Bolsheviks (other name - Reds) came to power in Russia during the October Revolution phase of the Russian Revolution of 1917, and founded the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). With the Reds defeating the Whites (Mensheviks), and others during the RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR of 1917 - 1922. The civil war was over 100 years ago, so it's too late for you to take the side of the Mensheviks who lost both the congress vote and the civil war.

    Now these are real stick and rudder pilots, no automated shit on this puppy. Now days most commercial airline pilots mostly fly for 10min and the rest of the flight is automated no matter if it's a 40min flight or a 15 hour flight the pilot only controls the plane manually maybe 3min for takeoff and then 2min for landing and the rest of the flight is auto pilot. Pilots are more like systems monitors now then pilots. That's why air france 447 crashed when pitot tubes froze the autopilot disconnected and pilots had no idea what's going on or what to do when the autopilot stopped working, pilots don't get enough stick and rudder training these days.

      I meant to say Systems Managers instead of Systems Monitors.

      Don't forget the need for a Flight Engineer to manually do the calculations, monitor the engines and the planes systems.

      and that's why there's way more flight crash in 60s and 70s compared to today eventhough there's much much much more planes in the sky today

    A very bizarre flight to say the least! Why were both Capt & F/O on the controls at the same time? What was the horn that sounded several times just after departure and what was the bell that sounded?? I thought that I was watching an episode of Air Crash Investigation at first - what a laugh, Russian aviation at its best.
