  • The A5 Rhodia Goalbook is one of many bullet journals I've been ordering and reviewing for my 2018 planner lineup. This notebook is new and I couldn't find many reviews on TH-cam. I hope that my thoughts will help all of you decide if this journal is the one for you. Thanks for watching :)

    A sheet is considered a piece of paper both front and back. A page is just one side of a sheet of paper, so either the front of the sheet or the back. They are both correct because 120 sheets = 240 pages. Therefore the Rhodia Goalbook is only a few pages less than the Leuchtturm 1917.

    I am so happy that Rhodia came out with these. It's definitely better than the Leuchturm 1917 because of the beautiful covers -- feel and choice of colour -- and better paper. Once you've used Rhodia, you're spoiled! And don't be afraid of the cost of fountain pens. You can get some great ones for under $15, such as as the Pilot Metropolitan, Pilot Kakuno, and Lamy fountain pens. It's hard to go back to writing with a ballpoint pen or even felt tip after using a fountain pen.

      +Ocean 101 I just picked out a Pilot Met! So excited and I’m happy they have the easy ink cartridges and a converter incase. Thanks for the info 🤗

    I also always felt confused about the future log and the perpetual calendar - what's the point? right? They sort of seem to serve similar purpose. However, if you go to Ryder Carroll's Bullet Journal TH-cam channel he explains it there quite well - and they serve different functions. The future calendar is for tasks that you wrote down on your daily task list, but later realized that you need to do them at a much later time. The perpetual calendar is what you use for those holidays, birthdays (and even appointments and meetings) that you know already know are unlikely to change dates. When revising your tasks for the next month, you can go back to your future calendar and add those tasks that you logged for that up coming month. ;)

    The number of pages refers to the "back" and "front" of the page. Rhodia notebooks rock!! Thanks for the review!

    One sheet is one pice of paper. A page would be one side of the sheet, thus one sheet of paper contains two pages, front and back. Hopefully that helps with confusion.

    The perpetual calendar means a forever calendar such as birthdays and anniversaries. You can use it any way you wish but the idea is that you can fill out in once. Some journals have a removable perpetual calendar that can be moved from journal to journal. Most people's birthdays and most anniversaries remain unchanged. Again, you can use this feature any way you want. The future log is more for major events that don't necessarily recur each month or year. Think vacations, holidays, major deadlines, appointments, special events. Its a holding page for future events. In a bujo you don't know exactly where a particular weekly or daily page will turn up. That makes the future log especially useful. Thanks for your review.

    Anyone else doesn’t care what they say on the specs, throw away that slip of specs, and open up the book? What you see is what you get?

    You could draw a line for when the week starts just like in a calendex - should be faster and less cluttered than writing in the days :)

    I've been using a goalbook for about 5-6 months (I switched to it from a leuchtturm1917). You did mention that the paper colour is more french vanilla than ivory. I don't think that the camera picked up how much more yellow the paper is. It's a big difference. I think that's what surprised me the most. Also, that pocket at the back is a big pain. If you are only putting bits of paper, it's ok. I used to have a thin metallic 15cm ruller in the 1917. I could not keep it in the rhodia because it kept falling out. So if you keep stencils - like a lot of bullet journalers do - you might not like it. Other than that, it is a lovely notebook.

      @SylviaWithAPlan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Maria Bonis The color is a lot more rich! Lol Did your pocket rip? It’s so flimsy! I do use stencils, but I like to keep my notebooks in a cover so I could put them in another pocket. Thanks for the comment!

    I really enjoy Rhodia goalbook. Their paper is fountain pen friendly, and l like all the calendar and contents pages. If it has a few pages less than Leuchtturm - meh - well, not much skin off my nose, as we say in the UK. A bit more expensive than Leuchtturm is more of a consideration for me, but the goalbook lasts me a long time, so the extra money doesn't usually weigh too much with me. I'd recommend Rhodia to anyone as a good competitor with Leuchtturm. Only very slight downside IMO is the ribbons - slightly less good quality than Leuchtturm and both the same colour, so slightly less easy to work with. But - meh.

    Excellent review! I haven't got a fountain pen or journal yet (doing research currently) but I'm starting to think bullet journaling was invented for me. I've looked up multiple reviews of original "bullet journal" that you spoke of and compared the goalbook to all the videos that were reviewing the "original bullet notebook." Those videos were not to the level of detail of your review in this video and you did multiple books lol. So great review and you also helped me understand bullet journaling more at the same time!!! So thanks for that and lastly could you do a guide to bullet journaling with the Rhodia goalbook and then maybe with a journal where you have to everything from scratch in more detail for both the rhodia and the other journal? or if you already have a guide to bullet journaling could you tag me in a comment with a link to that video? If So I'd greatly appreciate it and you earned my subscription with this video. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!!!

      This is the link to my Minimalist Bullet Journal in an A6 Leuchtturm 1917. Everything is from scratch! Thanks so much for the feed back. It means so much that it was helpful to someone☺️ There is more info about starting a bujo in this playlist.

    Stupid question: how is it possible that you have more dots across than down? Is that your mistake or I'm dumb?

    Creating calendars and this and that... I think I prefer my inserts where they have already been created for me, in my lovely traveler's notebook. This is a nice book though, I could use it for a journal. THank you.

      +Laurie E I felt the same until I tried it out. I stayed minimalist and it’s working for me. In 2018 I’m thinking about combining the two. Thanks for your comment 🙂

    You don't like that the number gets in the way of dots? Isn't that a bit too picky? And pages are pages. Its pretty clear on the back what you get. Its a notebook. If its all a problem, please return it. They make these for the masses. Custom order what you need and be content. Have a great day.

    Thanks for the review! How did you put the stencil on your 1917? Is it glued down or did you spray it on? It looks beautiful! 💜

    • @SylviaWithAPlan
      @SylviaWithAPlan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I washi taped it down! The opal stazon does not seep into a surface like the dye based stazon inks. Soon after it started to scratch off. I’d recommend using the regular stazon, which I’ve used on my leather TNs and never had a problem 🙂

    I noticed you said you use a cover for these notebooks, can you recommend a good company that makes nice leather covers for these A5 sizes? You said you put these in a Travelers notebook, do they make TN's in full A5 size like this?

    • @SylviaWithAPlan
      @SylviaWithAPlan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, A5 TNs! I don’t own them, because they are to big. I use the Lihit lab covers in A5. I do have a video on them 🙂
