Considering that the first light sabers in Star Wars lore were also tethered to a battery pack worn on the back, this is pretty amazing.

This really is eerily familiar. The average technological level in the Star Wars universe was comparable to our own when the first Lightsabers were invented, too. Minus all of the hyperspace capable vessels that had their systems reverse-engineered, of course.

Technically according to Star Wars lore, a lightsaber is a loop of plasma that goes out of the hilt and is somehow looped back into the hilt again so once on and humming in the air it doesn't expend energy. This is said to be analogous to a superconducting loop, so energy is only expended when it comes in contact with something solid that sort of breaks the surface of the plasma, which in-universe also explains why the lightsaber can be portable with a relatively small battery pack since it's only when the blade is touched to something substantial that the loop is broken and energy is expended. This also accounts for the lore fact that a Star Wars lightsaber requires extreme strength and dexterity to use because of the associated "gyroscopic effects" caused by the superconducting plasma loop, and therefore can only be effectively wielded by a well-trained Jedi.

Honestly, lightsaber are useless weapons, is the same situation that happened to swords, when you have long range weapons like pistols, guns, mp5, RPGs, etc. A close combat weapon like a sword or even a lightsaber, would have no chance as the user must have the capability to react to the bullet, and even if you are good enough to plasma cut the bullet, try to react to the other 30 bullets that have been fired to you, in less than a second. For a lightsaber to work, the person must be enhanced, and even if they were, a long range weapon would be better as you cannot reach the shooter. Long range combat esealy wins easily against a close combat if the person is out of range of the other.

My dad built me a similar device when I was around ten, way back in nineteen eighty seven! It was obviously not as advanced and it was just basically a mini plasma torch, but I was able to dismantle an ‘83 rusted out Toyota Celica in under a few hours, so I loved it!

@@creepersans9257 I dont think it was. I haven't really seen anything about pre-republic in the series (films or tv shows) and I've watched all of them except the newest episode of Mandalorian. Unless I'm forgetting something they have never talked about pre-republic. The only time they really used lightsabers while being built was in Clone Wars S3 or 4 with the kyber crystals. (They did also use kyber crystals in the Lego Star Wars: Freemaker Adventures). I'm assuming all the old republic canon is in books/games?

The only thing I have done is watched all of the shows and the only thing about lightsabers they mention is the kyber crystals so I don't think the shows or movies mess with the old republic timeline. (I literally have no clue about any of the comics/books/games. All I know is that they exist and some of them are old republic and some of the comics are set in the same time as New Republic.) I would assume that they would fit into the timeline until Disney messes with it even more (E.G. Books from Force Awakens, Last Jedi, Rise of skywalker are non canon. If Disney makes films about pre-republic or talk about how lightsabers are made, it is canon and the books/games/comics will be non-canon unless they can occupy the same timeline.

According to star wars lore, this is accurate. The first ever lightsabers had a little energy box that they were attached to that the users wore on their waist. Obviously this one is a much bigger variant, but still.
