I just ordered a 151 R. I liked your video a lot: the visuals celebrated the joy of restoration. Still, I would have liked to see how the sole turned out.
Thanks Tanner! I'm glad you enjoyed it bud. This style of video takes quite a bit of time, so i'm debating sticking with it. haha I'll probably 'dramatize' one here and there for fun! Hope things are going well for you.
Hey RH! Thanks for the input buddy! as for the editing, the question is not whether you can do it or now, but if you HAVE THE TIME. haha A video like this takes a few hours to edit.. its tough! Glad you enjoy them. It definitely makes it worth it!
thanks Chad! No coating for now! If I did what you said, would it take in oil the same as a cast iron pan?? Would it darken? I've never heard of it being done, but I did think about it briefly. I was afraid of making the steel brittle?
It will absorb oil into the pores much the same as a skillet and it will also darken. It only needs to be hot enough that you can just barely hold it bare handed and use a mid weight penetrating oil in light coats as opposed to cooking oil/ animal fat. Although I'm sure that would probably work also just make it a little sticky
Thanks Derek! I thought about it, but I figured it may be more of a mess than anything.. you wont get the same durable coat with rattle-can paint as it came from the factory, and I don't want black paint rubbing off on my fresh wood projects! ;-P I've decided to keep it bare bones for now!
A great video to illustrate your meagre begginings and determination. This is almost prophetic given the music.
Huh, what an oldie. I have almost no recollection of this video or project! Time keeps ticking. Moves keep happening!
It is a GOLDIE oldie, that is for sure

Holy crap, your videos are really coming along. Such a satisfying restoration too.

Good job bud. Turned out nice. No coating? I'd at least heat and oil it to stop it from flashing over again. Cheers till the next one!

Any mid to light weight oil will do
Cold applications will even prevent rust bur won't penetrating and patina the same
Thanks for the tips dude! I think i'll do it! I'd love a darker finish, especially on the chassis!
came out great, I think it would also look good if you painted it black just like the original

Japanning is a tricky process. It’s not exactly like paint.
Huh huh first! Hu huh.
