I found that durometer and wheel width make a big difference. For example, on the asphalt streets I typically ride on, I found Mini Logo 80A AWOLs the fastest out of the several wheels that I tried. I think they are 40mm wide. I figured narrow wheels would be faster because they would have less rolling resistance, but, the wider wheels seemed to make a difference. Wider harder wheels weren't as fast. Wider wheels with the same hardness seemed to be faster than narrow ones.
Im currently using Venture 5.6 highs. They are pretty good. So far they are my favorite (already tried Indys and AcesAf1). I would love to try thunders someday. Great video! Cheers from Argentina!

Skateboard truck rabbit 🕳 expert here!! I use 149 Thunders for all street/tech skating. Ace Classic & AF1 are great for bowls/transition. Stage 4s are the grail truck imo
I rode Indy’s for years and the last time I skated, the newest versions were the stage 8’s. Skating again after a 10 year break and instead of grabbing a pair of stage 11’s I decided to opt for the one truck I never had when I was younger and those were Thunders. Aside from the clearance issues on nose and tailslides, I love them. I will definitely pick up another pair of Indy’s in the future but Thunders are great. I rode ventures, Indy’s, tracker, fury’s, destructos, titans, grind king and almost every other brand in the 90’s but from my experience, thunders and Indy’s are the gold standard.
For anyone who’s trying to find the best truck, an important thing too is to know the wheelbase of your deck and try to get the same because it changes how your truck feels
Venture vs Indy with Venture most popular in Japan and they have some pretty good skaters and less brand bias! I hear Ace trucks with Krux bushings are the best for some but never tried that.
I’ve skated ace. They’re horrible so squirrelly. Turns way to much for me. Ventures Alamo don’t turn at all. I’ve skated many other trucks and thunders are just what I’m used to.
Hey now, those are strong words, I know a lot of people that love Ace trucks. That being said, Thunder 4 life! Btw, Thunders are definitely lighter, I have the titanium lights and wow!
They’re squirrely trucks. Ace trucks are decent. I’ve skated them. They’re ok if you have really short legs and you like trucks that turn way more than they should. Ace trucks are for people who skate super loose trucks.
@@MichaelRelevant I find the opposite with venture. You can't skate them lose with stock bushings they're meant for people who like tight trucks. I'd rather skate "lose trucks " being a lighter guy. Ace are good trucks imo. Look at max palmer etc.

@@MichaelRelevant So I'm a beginner and bought some Ace Classics in a sale. I'm 6ft but 110kg so I put hard bushings in them. But have them looser or even medium tight, too squirrelly for learning. I never had another brand of trucks that turns and locks so well (and i know it's not the bushings, because i've been using the same ones for years)
@MichaelRelevant have you ever skated stage 4s from independent? The stage 4 re-issues are my go to trucks 8.75-9", thunder 151s on my 8.5 street setup
@MichaelRelevant congrats on 15k subs bro! I think you are really cool and a great skateboarder!! Hope we can skate someday! I finally did every wall in my park! Conquered my fear of 12ft drop in with like 9 feet of Vert!
I skated nothing but Indys forever. Have been experimenting lately, had Thunders, now Ventures. I prefer the Ventures currently cause 1) They don't develop a mean lean to one side like other trucks. 2) The kingpin sits low so it doesn't get all ground down to where it's unusable like other trucks 3) They're pretty light but solid
First board had ventures then I could not find them so then I had tensors cause deawon is dope - those went out and every shop said just use Indy’s - wanted to try thunders - they said no just use Indy’s there the best - so I been skating Indy’s since lol - am curious to try thunder I like the look and have heard good things for sure
There too many factors, skating real street all ledges are different, some have a round edge some a sharp edge, ad in wheel size and how you skate, it all just depends. I think Thunder grind better and Indys slide better, i mean if i had to do a 20ft krook i think thunder would be better and a 20ft tailslide Indys would be better but again, so many factors.
So when I was young I was so good at skating I could skate anything. But now that I’m old I have to be a little more picky so my reviews are more trustworthy now that I’m not as good. Now if I don’t have something Ilike to Skate I can’t land stuff because I’m not naturally as good. So in an old video five years ago if I said Avenue trucks were OK maybe I thought they were OK but if I skated them now and I can’t do it kickflip maybe my review is a little more trust worthy because I’m more like the average skater.
I think it's unfair to say that independent and Thunder are miles away from other trucks. I've found Ace trucks are almost as good (or maybe better) then both brands. It is a subjective question, what's best for me might not be best for someone else. I love Independent trucks but Ive stopped riding them because 2 years ago I broke a pair of hollows and a pair of standards in a 6 month spand and NHS never returned any of my emails, not even to tell me that I'm out of luck . I'm over then, (however I still have a pair of Stage 9 koston lows that I'll skate every now and then.) Ive found it's important to choose trucks based on the deck you are wanting to ride. If you ride a super steep deck you may want a lower truck to balance it out. For example I have a 8.38 Hockey deck 149 thunder standards This setup is my lock in to flat bars and occasional transition kit. 8.6 OG concave chocolate Ace classic 55 trucks This is my "daily driver" setup when I primarily skate ledges and flat ground, the extra 2mm height on the classics make this flat as fuck Crail board more manageable and gives it some weight to eliminate "ghost pop." My last setup is 8.125 flip shaped deck (also a short 31.1 length) Ace AF-1 33 trucks. This is my little short bullet cruiser, the "Surfy" nature of the AF1 truck makes this shaped deck super fun to cruise to different spots on.
Honestly it evens out. Indys are higher off the ground but the wheelbase is shorter. Thunders are closer to the ground but the wheelbase is longer. They end up being about the same pop-wise. I've skated both and personally I'm skating Indys at the moment because with Thunders I had two main issues: 1). They did not want to turn. When skating a curb, after hitting it you want to whip around so you can hit the curb again, right? Can't do it with Thunders. The turn radius is just massive and they take forever to turn around. Thunders feel kind of like a boat. The upside to that is they are very stable so if you were to do a crazy hillbomb I'd do it on some tightened Thunders. 2). The kingpin clearance on Thunders is very small. This ends up making it so if you do a lot of grinds (especially on a crusty curb or ledge) the kingpin just gets absolutely destroyed. Indys have more meat on the axle and better kingping clearance so they last a lot longer. I do like that Thunders are lighter than Indys so my go to right now are Independent Forged Hollows because they give you all the pros of Indys without being super heavy.
@@MichaelRelevantThanks, I bought the Team version, I think it's a good height, I was going to buy the version with the forged base but it was 1mm smaller.

You kind of just need to be careful when you are skating and know not to lean too far on them. I got some Indy mids also and had some Mini Logo 55mm AWOLs on them. You can definitely get wheel bite on those. Again, probably the bushings will harden up after awhile.
@@idmhead0160 idk, I've tightened then straight away until they were tight enough for me and the bushing stayed stat way. No deformation, no nothing. Now I'm running them flush with the kingpin and that seems to work for me
Why you don’t use wheels on your Boards?🤷🏻😂😂😂😂
Everybody that gets on my board says why are your wheels so big cause I Skate 56 mm. I escaped them for a long time, but I always buy really big wheels I used to always get 60 mm the biggest I could get to save money. In this video, they were probably 60 mm.
Sometimes skating a wider board makes 60 mm wheels look smaller than they actually are
I have 58mm OJ double duros on my skateshred 9×33 and they look huge to me, and I skated 60mm nano cubics 93a when they 1st came out(only size @time)

Spitfire thunder here
Indy gang for life.
Ace better than both.
fury trucks are better
Windows Apple Linux analogy was horrible 😫, more people use Linux believe it or not and its the base of apples OS lol I get what you mean but hackers use Linux hackers and skaters go together like PBJ lol windows would be your everyday human with a bobby or two, and Apple are them folks that impulse buy the most expensive shit, oh yea POSERS, should of used Pepsi and coke 😆
Unix not Linux is the base Apple OS. You're mostly incorrect about the other stuff as well. People that are hacking systems these days are using a lot of PowerShell (multi-platform (Windows/Apple/Linux) which was founded by Microsoft) but what do I know? I've only been proficient using different systems since 1979.
There's no way more people use Linux than Windows
@@sterlingcampbell2116 thats cuz you don't know any better but I'm good on responding to this thread anymore lol
Thunder, for the piiiinch!
Thunders, I ride loose trucks and I got to say who cares about over rated turning
indys turning is a big deal and wheel bite sucks
