    Thankfully I stumbled across your site. We have the Reolink for outside monitoring and have been very pleased. Great content!

    So to give the device a static IP: Find the MAC address in your router, then set it to assign the designated IP. This works for wired AND wireless devices.

      I was going to say the same thing. This is called a DHCP reservation. The DHCP server (probably your router/access point) will always assign the same IP when it sees the MAC address.

    ReoLink is great budget friendly cameras. Some models have issues with RTSP/ONVIF but you can either reboot if adjusting settings doesn't make it stable enough within Blue Iris.

    You can set the static IP in the Reolink app or in the desktop program directly to the camera.

    Reolink is an actual quality company, not Chinese junk.. I have used their products professionally for quite a while.

      Not sure if this particular model is waterproof, but I think they do make an outdoor version.

    The highlight was seeing you are also a late model HP laser user. I love my 4100

      Work provided that one. It's OK-ish, although I've had some weird problems with it. Occasionally it would intercept network file transfers between my Windows and Linux PCs, and would attempt to print an entire video file in hex code. I never did figure that one out, after a while it stopped doing it.

    It looks like Reolink cams have web interfaces. You should be able to adjust settings by going to the IP address from a web browser instead of using their software/app.
    What NVR are you using?

    • @saveitforparts
      @saveitforparts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a UNV recorder, so far it's been pretty good at interfacing with random IP cameras!

      @@saveitforparts Interesting. I hadn't heard of it. I'll have to check it out.
      I've been using Blue Iris for a few years. I have a Windows based server running all the time and it is about as good as you can get for cheap.
      iSpy is supposedly good. Most of the other free ones are linux based and I've had problems setting up a docker environment on Win server 2019 and gave up.

      @@trustthewater I have some friends who swear by Linux systems, but I wanted something more plug and play that I could just set up and forget about. Linux always seems to take some amount of babysitting.

    So given the location I assume this is part of the Feline Defense Network. When do you install pattern recognition software and your airsoft gatling gun?

      Ha, the AI nerf turret may or may not have been for that, but they just ignored or ate the darts!

      @@saveitforparts The robotics team I coach has some interesting vision tracking tech. It can for instance detect the difference between an array of colors including, to my surprise, camo. We could program the specific pelt colors of the vermin and program any manner of "responses"........

      We were just watching some Robot Wars the other night and saying how fun it would be to enter something like that. Is there a local amateur circuit? The TV version seems to have moved away from small-time student stuff to more like NASCAR with saw blades :-P

      @@saveitforparts Oh I actually got my start in robotics long ago with a local circuit called Mechwars. No longer active. I know some guys in Lacrosse who have dabbled with building a TV worthy Battlebot. And I may revive Machines Behaving Badly our 3 pounder comp where the entirety of the rules set is "No Flamethrowers. No hand grenades. And no live animals.".

    I've been wondering about these. Thanks for the review.
    I wonder why there is an SD card slot.

    • @trustthewater
      @trustthewater 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Many of these types of cameras allow you to record stuff locally onto an SD card. Not really ideal if a thief steals the camera but many manufacturers include it as a feature.

  • @brunangii

    Don’t waste your time with this product. I spent almost an hour, trying to get it to connect to my router and it wouldn’t. It was sitting right next to the router and still wouldn’t connect to it. On top of that it took multiple tries for the camera to recognize the QR code on my phone.

    • @saveitforparts
      @saveitforparts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't have any issues getting it to connect, and I set it up at the opposite end of the house from my router. It's been working great since I put it in, it's actually one of the more reliable cameras I've tested. (I didn't get this one as a promo, I actually bought it).
