You know he doesn't care and he's watching the negative videos to continue to put the insane shit in his videos and spread them further. Like, you guys know this and you're just playing along right? I genuinely can't tell sometimes and I guess it is possible that it's not obvious that he's doing this.
I 2nd the Rain Man theory, it makes too much sense. Plus it would explain Dhur's fascination with toothpicks & popsicle sticks lol jk I remember having to make a bridge from `picks back in the day.
This dhar mann video has made me feel even worse about myself. The main character is only nice to the new student because she’s smart. With my autism I have a learning disability so it’s actually hard for me academically. I legit failed all of my college courses last term despite trying really hard. I am exhausted… but this message just makes me feel bad for even having autism not better…
As a person with autism, I totally agree with you on this kind of representation. While autism is definitely not the terrible mental illness that some people make it out to be, treating it like a superpower will just put more stress on people because they’ll feel like they won’t be able to fail. Thank you
yeah, and I've noticed that in most of these kind of productions it's almost always maths that the autistic person is into or good at/likes. The specific interest/focuses never seem to be art like theathre or painting , or humane studies like history or languages. It's almost never sports...or fashion or games or a tv show.
@@ninavale. it definitely puts a lot of unnecessary stress on me. I’m definitely good in algebra, but I can get bad grades in it just like everyone else. Today even, I failed a test on a part of algebra that I’m good at. Thankfully we have assessments were they affect your grade more than a test. And I got a 100% in the same part of algebra. My grade went back up, but it did give me a scare.
I don't have autism, but my friend at school does. Just because someone is autistic doesn't mean they won't stand up for themselves. He's really tough.
As a person with autism, I feel like the lesson "Treat autistic people with respect because they're people, too." would work much better than "Treat autistic people with respect because they're the same as you." or "Because being autistic is a superpower" or whatever. Because the truth is that some autistic people aren't the same as you. Some need more help than others. And that's okay.
Yep even though you should respect all people, some people with disabilities should be treated differently than regular people just because their bodies work different and they might need extra help or a different way of approaching them.
Fr he promotes autism as a fun ability that turns you into a genius. But some people with autism need more help than others, and that’s ok. The lesson should be to treat them normally and not to underestimate their abilities. Not that everyone was autisum is super smart and probably smarter than you
Both a special talent and prime target for emotional abuse. Never the unique things they go through such as trying medications, having different opinions, or other coping mechanisms
We’re not just telling stories, we’re teaching people to use autistic people as a tutor because we like to display every single autistic person as a super super smart person and making autism look like something that makes you better but most of the time it affects you in not so many good ways
@@Pearl226I'm autistic and can second this. if he truly did show those things,I'm sure he would maybe be terminated (which I hope so) for potential hate speech/stereotyping because yes, autistic people can have sensory overloads, but usually would have to be overestimulated for that to happen, it's so offensive for him to portray autistic people like this when (obviously) not all are like this. sry if I made you mad for saying that he could be terminated for hate speech, but as an autistic 16 yr old, it just makes me so fucking mad.
and totally not something that makes social life really hard (at least for me + on top of some axinty disorder idr what but prob generalized anxiety or social anxiety.)
As someone who has autism, this is incredibly offensive and NOT how autism works, when I was younger and saw his autism videos, it only enforced the mindset that I had that I was the same as everyone else, and that lead me to not accept help, be really stubborn, be awful to my teachers, because I thought they were treating me like a baby, when in reality, they were just helping me, and giving me the accommodations that I needed, but didn’t think I needed and didn’t want. Thanks a lot Dhar Mann for fucking up my life a little!
And for some it could be worse. Portraying all autism like this is dangerous to the youth who have autism that is different, they can start thinking there is something wrong with them because they have the diagnosis but for some reason they're not "gifted" like the people in his videos. I'm sure he thinks it's no big deal, but he needs to reevaluate the way he looks at certain subjects
I kind of relate to this, when I was younger I saw the autism videos but it didn’t really have any effect on me, but I do relate too being super annoyed by the school shoving special ed teachers down my throat, like I’m a decent student already (I’m a B student) I don’t need this bullshit
wait.. how old are you because Dhar man didn't start gaining traction until like 2019?? Still it must've been awful watching his videos portraying those on the spectrum.
I hate how Dhar Mann presents every disabled person as someone who is amazing at everything. He’s implying that if someone has autism or something, then they must actually be super geniuses and know how to do everything. Every time Dhar Mann does a lesson like this, he’s basically saying “People with disabilities are better than you and should be given all of your respect”
Holy shit, that's also what I'm thinking. It's a terrible message to promote. There are people on the spectrum who dont have amazing abilities- it still is never justified to treat anyone badly or look down on them
I hate how he wrote the line “Down’s Syndrome, autism, whatever, it means the same thing. SLOW.” Has Dhar not met a person with Down’s Syndrome? You can tell the difference between an autistic person and a person with Down’s Syndrome. You can tell some has Down’s Syndrome because of their facial features and how they talk slow (not to sound offensive)
@@maddisonjohnson4308 Even the most ignorant people can tell the difference between someone that has autism and someone that has Down’s Syndrome. (I really don’t mean to come across as rude, so sorry about that)
@@t1mburt0nsdandruff Nah, you ain't coming off as rude. Also, you are correct yourself. The people with down syndrome do have physical traits than those with autism. Makes sense actually now that you mention it.
My husband is on the spectrum and he is one of the smartest and most creative people I've ever met. However, I also grew up with a girl who had low functioning autism. She couldn't speak or do anything for herself. All autistic people are different and acting as if people on the spectrum are some kind of monolith is so disrespectful.
It's terrible how there's two sides to the stigma as well. On one side, there's the "puzzle piece" motive, in which autistic people need to be "fixed", and then there's the "superhero" thing that Dhar Mann is doing, which also isn't doing well in Although the terms "low/high-functioning" are a bit outdated (we usually just describe our situation e.g. non-verbal, or just use "autistic"), it's good that you know that there is, in fact, a spectrum to it.
Is high functioning autism, Asperger's? I worked with kids who had autism and most were non verbal. Knew a guy with Aspergers and he was sharp as a tack, if a little socially awkward. Great sense of humor, but he didn't like loud noises or being touched
@@TheUplate kind of. Asperger's was folded into the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder a while back. There's levels 1-3. Most people who would have been diagnosed with Asperger's get ASD level 1 nowadays.
6:15 Something that always bothers in media is when mean kids have good sweet parents, implying that teenagers have some natural of inherent evil. I mean, I'm sure there are some, but usually kids are reflexes of their parents.
I agree. It gives the false impression that nice or lenient parents are what makes children mean when sometimes having mean or strict parents can contribute to kids being mean.
exactly. even tho sometimes, its influence from peers, that’s not the case here either since all her friends were against her behavior. this doesn’t make sense bc ppl don’t just become mean for no reason.
Maybe sometimes a persons behaviour isn't effected by Thier parents, maybe it's just Thier genuine attitude or just the people they are. Good parenting goes a long way but sometimes people just turn out to be horrible people no matter how good the parenting is. Or people turn out really good even if the parents were terrible.
As a person with autism, and knowing how common it is, it's almost comedic how obvious it is that Dhar Mann has either no social life, or has done no research whatsoever as to what autism is, or what it does.
It is an incredibly destructive disease that causes you to die early (most severely autistic people don't live past age 50), destroys your mental capacity, and annihilates your ability to function/socialize in society.
I noticed that the girl in the video mostly talked like a robot, this is probably because dhar Mann can’t afford good actors, but on the off chance that he thought that’s how people with autism act, I found it weird. Would you be able to enlighten me if the robotic voice is realistic or not?
@@benjamincharlton1388 Some Autistic people do sound like that yes, but usually only if they're further down the spectrum. Like I'm autistic, but I'm able to speak decently fluently. It usually just depends on how far on the spectrum someone is.
I’m black and autistic but honestly at this point I would rather just have every applicable hate crime at once than more of “inclusivity and diversity” especially from Dhar Maan
as an autistic person I wish the message was "treat autistic ppl with respect bc its literally common sense and they r ppl too" instead of this bullshit
Ngl the only message I see from dhardhar’s bs video is “force yourself to befriend autistic people to use em even if you can’t stand them” cause really never have I seen someone change their mind that way (by seeing something they could benefit from) without the intention of exploiting them '-' and I mean that girl could be so useful to make autism diagnosis easier for everyone cause welp looks like she can spot it out real good, no one would be undiagnosed anymore 😂
gotta love that all his lessons can be boiled down to "be nice to people because they'll do nice things for you" not "do nice things for people because it's the decent thing to fucking do"
Right, when I give some money to homeless people I dont do it for personal gain but simply for kindness. My phylosophy of life is "When I was born the first thing I did was crying and people around me smiled, so why don't live a life so that when I will be gone I'll be happy and the people around me will cry?"
Or even just "treat people like thinking, feeling beings because they are". Instead we get the nth repetition of "be careful who you're mean to bc they might be able to benefit you in some way"
@@notiddymothbirlfriend Yeah and that! The entire fucking "moral" that is learned in this video is "be nice to autistic people, because they'll fix your computer and do your math homework". It's frankly disgusting. Imagine the outrage if he used a similar stereotype as a basis in another one of Dhar Mann's atrocious vids (and I'm more than sure he fucking has in the past).
As someone with autism, I personally am good at math and not very social. But I know plenty of people who do not fit this stereotype, and this kind of branding of autism as a “Different ability” is really harmful. I really like that you understand and acknowledge all of this, and am thankful that your taking the time tell others as well. Keep being awesome AugustTheDuck😊
100% agree. dhar mann never talks about the dis in disability. it’s always him saying “autism is all sunshine and rainbows!” coming from an autistic person, autistic people are not superheroes and they’re not anything less than other people. they’re normal people.
I have EVERY SINGLE SYMPTOM OF AUTISM even as a little baby I've had every symptom of autism since I was 2, and yet when I suggest I might have autism, my parents throw my ideas across the room and immediately change the subject and scream "NO NOT MY KID!!!!!" Like, bruh. 💀💀💀
It’s better for your parents to be aware that you have autism and support you, than to deny it because some cases of it require extra help. Everybody needs help in life, but some people just need it more down the road, and that’s fine.
@lilyaka9194 Well no autism is really a bad thing. One of my parents thinks I have autism and if I do and had two buttons one that said keep it and one that said it all goes I think I know which one I would choose. However it’s not a thing for that to Be the reaction to though but it is still just a bad thing
My autism does not feel like a superpower. You worded everything perfectly. For me autism make social situations hell, public places are often overwhelming and I have to cover my ears or wear ear plugs. There is obviously other issues I have but a lot of it makes my day to day life more difficult, not easier
10:00 this is very true. My brother is autistic and he is actually non verbal. My family does get surprised or caught off guard sometimes at some things my bro may know how to do. Although he is nonverbal, that doesn't make him stupid or anything like others may think. So this is a good point. Everyone that's autistic isn't some genius in certain subjects. Can they be, sure, but definitely not all.
@@Raphaeltheslayer "all autists are mouth breathers" us a stereotype I could have never even fathomed if it wasn't for Dhar. I damn near exclusively breathe through my nose, do your research mann
@@oxos_pass We are giving our opinion, being the demographic this content is portraying, let us vent cmon. But yes its weird how that exact combination of words is so common
The lesson should be, even if it is a “low functioning” autistic person, they’re not deserving of ridicule. Dhar Mann’s lesson seems to be that it’s only when an autistic person is relatively as smart and functioning as their peers, then they’re worthy of respect and I have serious issue with that.
It's true he doesnt do his research on that stuff, but he is trying his best to show kindness to others, but he aint presenting it in the right manner. If im not mistaken he has probably made numerous autism vids and I believe he has good intentions but is presenting them in the improper manner. His more recent videos in general are all going downhill, probably why I do not watch him anymore. He's just running out of ideas and is coming up with crud and the first thing in his head
7:10 despite being undiagnosed when it comes to my autism, my aunt had the great idea to tell me "when you go off to college, we'll tell them you're [r-slur]ed because you cant cook or make your bed." (both of which are untrue, by the way). so unfortunately, this is a belief some individuals have.
I grew up with a cousin who’s autistic, and been there her whole life, so I’ve seen a fair share of how her autism is, and I can confirm dhar mann probably doesn’t even know the definition of autism.💀
exactly, I’m 18 and a young carer for my 5 year old sister with autism, she’s non verbal and to me I see her as my sister, I see no need to label people as “autistic” they’re just them, (just my experience tho)
As someone with autism it was heartwarming to me that august actually knew how bad of representation this is and how harmful it is for people like us, we are not superheros or something like that we're people with certain needs that other people dont have
It's true he doesnt do his research on that stuff, but he is trying his best to show kindness to others, but he aint presenting it in the right manner. If im not mistaken he has probably made numerous autism vids and I believe he has good intentions but is presenting them in the improper manner. Not to mention that using the same word in quick succession is just poor writing. "Tessa can't help but feel *bad* for how *bad* she's been treating Ralph"
These are some of my favorite videos of yours. Plus as a person with autism I hate by how autism is protrayed in this. All of us aren't nice people who are amazing at complicated subjects. ಠ﹏ಠ Edit: omg guys ヽ(。◕o◕。)ノ. you didn't have to give me so many likes thank you!!!! I'm famous
im currently friends with an autistic person, and hes actually a really nice guy. He's real smart, but is really REALLY open when it comes to topics. He'll sometimes bring up innapropriate stuff (not nessacarily sexually innapropriate) But from what I've seen, obviously autistic people have all different personalities and habits, and thats perfectly okay.
As a person with autism (I know, there's plenty of people in these comments with it, but still), I will say that my autism has not been a massive hinderance on my life, but it hasn't exactly benefitted me, either. I'm very emotional, I can sometimes be a little slow on the uptake, my learning methods can be a little specific and hard to work with, the list goes on. Autism does not benefit me in any way whatsoever. I'm still a normal person, and I'd still like to think I'm smart, but I'm not a genius like these videos portray people with autism to be (Not to say the people in this were geniuses, anyways, this was some pretty basic stuff). Autism does not severely hinder my life, nor does it benefit me in any way whatsoever. If Dhar Mann wanted to portray autism properly, he'd show the ways people with autism are effected by it and how they live with it and continue to thrive despite it. He'd show that yes, sometimes they need help, sometimes they need things explained to them a different way, but no, that does not mean they're stupid in any way. These portrayals are just unrealistic, flatout. Why would these bully characters ever think these things about people with autism when everyone in the Dhar Mann universe who has autism is treated like Albert Einstein?
I don't think dhar man understands how common autism is in the school district, this is from a person who recently just graduated and I noticed autism is normal in my school as there many people with autism in my school.
11:00 when you're explaining how seeing autism this one way is a dangerous slope is so so true!!! I am a mom of a nonverbal autistic kid. I mean it can be this way for some but for so many other its not! I overthink every outing we go on, not knowing if my son can handle it or become overwhelmed, If I want to take him to a show or the movies, I have to think about if he has a melt down, how will it affect others.. Its not as simple as "...theyre not disabled just differently abled..." Just like August said, there are things that he cant do or needs extra help with. And for Dhar Mann to portray autism multiple times in this way, as some type of genius superhero is so damn ignorant and you can tell he hasnt done any research whatsoever!!
even though I don't have autism I still do have a learning disability, and with this video Dhar Mann is making people it seem that people with a learning disability are automatically 10x smarter than people without autism. He also makes us sound like we are geniuses. When in reality us people with a learning disability struggle everyday. I am not saying people who have a disability are stupid either. I would say I'm a creative person. Also its nice being unique. But it really feels like Dhar Mann doesn't understand autism
I’m autistic and I have a client with a learning disability…everyone just needs to know that we’re all just people with different likes and dislikes and skills and struggles who need different types of support. I help my client read through certain things and rephrase it in a way they understand, and they help give me cool shortcuts and a ton of idea for day to day life things I struggle with at home. They’re also really good with cars. So it’s just like any other friendship with any other person.
I have a socializing disability but I found a very good friend, that helps me at school whenever we need to expose a presentation. He's a very trustworthy feller, sometimes a bit arrogant, but hey everyone has his own faults. It's funny how he has almost nothing in common whit me, but we still get along well. He always tells me how f*cking good I am at memorizing poetries. I have the tendence of stuttering too sometimes, even when not talking in public, and trust me it can be a real pain in the ass.
i have autism and i get bullied so hard for LITERALLY having a brain that works a little differently 😂 autism does NOT make me slow, in fact (not flexing) i recently got the top of my class in two tests, and i genuinely enjoy the learning parts of school. i get decent grades. i have autism. i am a “level two” autistic, according to my diagnosis, but i suck at maths. on a good day, i can mask really well. on a bad day, i can’t talk because i get overwhelmed. today i had to leave school early from a meltdown. Autism can be difficult, i seriously speak for all people on the spectrum when i say dhar man can stay out of this. boys in my class use “autism” as an insult and call people the r slur. my own best friends find me annoying for constantly talking about my special interests even though i cannot control it. i hate when we are portrayed as idiots. today i caught myself wishing i wasn’t autistic because i get bullied so much. please please please people i am begging you treat us like the humans we are. sorry for going on a rant, im just so so tired of the rubbish me and so many others suffer through daily. thank you august for making this video. i am disabled but i am still a person with a mind and feelings and opinions. its unrealistic that tessa and the girl with autism (forgot her name) are just friends right after tessa discriminates against her. i am AFRAID of the people in my class that bully me. i do not trust them and i never will.
As someone who is also on the spectrum, I honestly can't say enough how much I appreciate you calling him out on misrepresenting the Autistic community. People need to realize that Autism is in fact a neurological disability that we actually a struggle with, and it is NOT a superpower. Yes, savants do exist, but that is only a small section of us. Trust me, I wish that my Autism made me like a human calculator. I would gladly trade all the sensory issues and trauma and bad social skills with just being socially awkward and so good at math that I could do a calculus problem in like 3 seconds. The way Dhar Mann is presenting both of the autistic characters is making it seem like he thinks there is some kind of look, because there is no way you would see both those characters irl and think "Oh, they must be on the spectrum" on first impression and a lot of the things that come up are some of the boldest assumptions I've seen anyone make about Autism. You were right, people shouldn't treat someone with Autism well because "we are the same like everyone else." We should treat people like Autism well, because they are human beings too. We need people to recognize that we ARE different, and if you really want to spread awareness, istead of just saying that were powerful beings, you should actually send awareness to the struggles that we have to go through all the time. So again, thank you so much for putting this to light. I hope you have a great rest of your day.
I hate this stereotype of nerdy & eccentric = autism because I am nerdy and eccentric and kind of odd, but I’m definitely not autistic, I’ve had enough mental health pros in my life to know if I did by now. But I’ve had numerous well meaning but ignorant people suggest I am autistic for no other reason than to be like “I noticed you’re weird, did you know weird = autism? You’re welcome” and it just makes me roll my eyes. Of course I am not offended, I just find it so annoying how people just follow generic stereotypes instead of learning what autism really is or how it manifests
You hit the nail on the head on why Dhar's portrayal of autism is very dangerous. He handles the topic of disabilities in very superficial and even insensitive ways.
Lucky I was diagnosed in the 1st grade. For some reason the school I went to tried diagnosing me schizophrenia, but my mom took me to a actual doctor who diagnosed me with autism. My elementary school was really weird.
As a autistic person a disability quite literally means a disadvantage. You can’t just ignore peoples special needs because you believe autistic people are just as capable as nerotypicals
7:02 I'm sorry, ik that autism is the main talking point here, I just want to talk about the milkshake. At first glance, it honestly looks like a jar of soapy dishwater with a little cream on top, but the girl reacts like it's the triple gooberberry sunrise from the Spongebob Movie. Does Dhar Mann know what food art looks like? That's the bare minimum there- it's just some milkshake with a little whipped cream on top. He didn't even rim the class with anything (oreo crumbs, cookie bits, etc.) I know there's a hundred other things going on, but that actually bothered me. it's another example of these videos looking high quality and well edited with actually little fucks given to the details and content.
I felt the same way lol. The jar was what threw me off. Maybe it was supposed to be some artistic choice, but they didn't even make it look appetizing. Why make one stylistic decision if they don't stick with it, especially when it's important to the plot?
"Ralph is a special person" as an autistic person, the fact that they used the word "special" instead of the hundreds of adjectives they could've used just does not sit right with me at all 😨
@@wompwompwompwompwompwompalienzIt isn’t about it being a swear word. And it contradicts the whole message of the video. “Autistic people aren’t disabled or any different than the rest of us. They’re just sPeCiAl.” Like, what?
the qoute “people with disabilities dont have an inability but a different ability” its basically like saying deaf people can hear different things or disabled people can fly but not walk.
I'm so happy that mr.duck man brought up that not all people with autism are incredibly smart. That is a very harmful stereotype!! We need to bring light to mental disorders in a healthy and considerate manner 😭✋🏻

I'm someone with autism. You are 100% correct with what you said about the video. With me, the only thing that sucks is with my job/whatever else I get treated like crap, but if I wear a pin that says I have autism, suddenly everything is magically better. While it's nice and all, I wish people would treat me like a person even without the pin.
2:46 Honestly SAME. I had flu often as a kid, so I missed a lot of math lessons. And my brain just stopped comprehending math forever. We had a short math course at uni and I really tried my best to soak up all the knowledge and ended up having fever and migraine after one hour. I’m not kidding.
Im an autistic person. The autistic super genuis stereotype has affected me personally. My mother believed it and pushed me so hard to the point where I got burnt out. I am not the stereotype and many are not the stereotype. Being autistic has stopped me from doing a lot of things and I (and others) don't need a stereotype added
Another thing I think Dhar Mann doesn’t understand is that people with disabilities aren’t plain smarter than people with out disabilities but they aren’t really more stupid, they just function in different ways than most people (usually)
The reason she hates autistic people was idiotic too. I’m on the spectrum and my classmates didn’t dislike me because I was slightly awkward and disabled- they disliked me for not understanding blatant social situations and dumb high school drama situations (which is still not okay). Most ableist people don’t directly hate others because they are this or that thing they hate them because the fact a person acts out of the ordinary is annoying to them
Strike one: Between this and that "mom fires nanny" video that you covered a few months ago, I am convenience Dhar Mann has no idea what students learn at what grade level and what kids act/speak like at what age level. If I had to guess, this takes place in sophomore year of high school so these students will be 15/16 years old. At that age level, a math contest would certainly not ask for simple percentages as their final round of sudden death. Maybe if they were in fifth grade but not high school. Strike two: Then he also proves he has no idea what autism is. I've met a few people who were autistic, and as mentioned, they're all different while Dhar Dhar treats them all the same. Strike three; He uses the laziest cliches of all time for his narratives. That the girls make it to the finals, the extended pause after answer she answers the sudden death question, and that the other girl's father was the server from earlier. Like seriously, Hallmark movies are less formulaic than this. Seriously Dhar Mann, do proper research, don't use bland/repeated character tropes, and learn to actually make a more compelling story by twisting it up then MAYBE they could start to be better at trying to get your message across instead of being the clickbait, cookie cutter crap. Then again, quality takes time and money which he doesn't want to spend rather when lazy feeds the algorithm beast just as well.
I have PDA autism, and I do know it's different than the autism Dhar Mann was attempting to portray, but I DO struggle a LOT. I physically can't do simple tasks like brushing my teeth or going to live lessons, and the only real pros I see are that I'm extremely determined in things I want to do, and maybe more mature than most kids my age.
“How could someone with a disability be so smart?” Has she never heard of physical disabilities or does she think those automatically make you dumb too
As someone with autism, I hate how Dhar Man portrays it like a superpower, it’s just a different wiring of the brain, we aren’t super-geniuses (Maybe some of us are, but I can’t speak for myself)
THANK YOU AUGUST!! Your point about how dangerous Dharr Man’s streotypes autism is so correct. Especially the “Austism isn’t a disability, just a different ability” in other videos is awful. Because this can be twisted to take away any help that autistic people may need in school. It also implies that we don’t struggle when we do.
Obviously him saying that we aren’t any different and just as smart as everyone else is right but the whole “being mean until disabled person helps me” is just why…??? It would be better if they were just nice to a person because they’re an equal person to them.
@@wolffle_yt autism is classed as a disability. It’s a developmental/learning disorder but it does fall under the disability umbrella. And that’s okay. Autism is a massive spectrum so some autistic people might need a lot of support but others might not need as much. For example, I never needed extra learning support in school but one of my friends did. However, I did need the extra disability support for exams. I needed to be seated on the back row so I couldn’t feel everyone staring at me and extra time because I struggle with timing (which I don’t think I used but it was their as a security blanket to help me be a little more calm and less stressed)
I have a kid in my school with autism. He acts way differently than everyone else. But guess what? People treat him the same way as others. @@TraceguyRune Because... DharMann sucks at making meaningful stories, as you have probably realised by now, you know? xD The one day that person actually uploads a great video, the world will become a better place, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon lmao
So, apparently, the """moral""" of Dhar Mann's video, and I put moral in 3 air quotes, is that you should treat neurodivergent people with respect because they can help you with math, but not because it's the right thing to do. What a wonderful lesson, Dhar Dhar, not. Great video August!
While it is nice to see Autistics represented in a positive light, it is frustrating to see people think Autistics are just shy geniuses. I don’t mind the shy part, but the genius part just makes me feel inadequate. This is why I feel characters like Marcy Wu are not good rep. Marcy is quirky and smart yes, but it feels like this is her only defining trait.
I'm autistic myself and, while i did do great a school. It was because I was given the tools to help me (such as giving the space to do work, my sped teacher helping me with assignments and giving me the breathing room) I hate how whenever people portray autism in media it's either you are very smart and you are a young adult it's just that you don't know how to socialize with people or you don't know how to speak to anybody and that you occasionally throw temper tantrums when things don't go your way. Which is just, disgusting to me. Edit: also math was not really my strongest, like I got good grades out of. However I needed guidance for that, I did better in consumer math (which has just math with money) but even then I still struggled. So, not everyone on the spectrum is a super Saiyan at math.
I just commented something similar about the portrayal in media. It's either a slightly socially awkward genius or a person who isn't able to function on their own. You seldom if ever see anything in between. I'm sure many with autism dient get a diagnosis (or at least not at first) be use they're neither and don't think they could be autistic (and their family doesn't either).
If the drive isn't formatted 'properly' then nothing on it is going to be accessible. Not to mention, I don't know a single school that doesn't use network or cloud drives to store student work. No one has their own computer they're responsible for. Dhar Mann hasn't been inside or talked to an actual student in decades.
this whole "autism isn't a disability it's a ✨🤪DiFfErEnT aBiLiTy🤪✨" bs that some neurotypicals spew really pisses me off. during my freshman year of high school the teachers would brush off my struggles because i'm not disabled i'm "differently abled". the staff would either treat me like i'm a stupid toddler or like i'm some all-mighty human computer with no in-between. i'm so glad i go to a different school now smfh
_Dhar Manns perception of autism: something that makes you a literal mega mind who most people mistreat until they see how smart they are. You should be friends with them, they do everything perfect even though that’s not humanly possible!_ *Reality of autism: human beings who suffer from something on a spectrum who people treat as humans. For anyone wondering, autism is something serious who many people suffer from and painting it out as something that makes you perfect is not reality.* And yeah, autism is also amazing, but making millions of people believe that it makes you really really smart with no symptoms is... false. And some autistic people can be very smart with not many underlining symptoms, but it's a spectrum of different experiences. You can't just pretend like there's only one mold and everyone should fit into it! Like, the intentions are good but the outcome is sketchy. Thank you for reading and if I made any mistakes, please inform me :) and I have no idea why I wrote a literal essay in this, but I have a lot of free time so don't judge me. Yeah!

I am so sorry to hear that. You deserve better than that. There's nothing wrong with you just because you are neurodivergent and I wish you the best.
Exactly
It’s not just intellect that is affected

The reason she hates autistic people was idiotic too.
I’m on the spectrum and my classmates didn’t dislike me because I was slightly awkward and disabled- they disliked me for not understanding blatant social situations and dumb high school drama situations (which is still not okay). Most ableist people don’t directly hate others because they are this or that thing they hate them because the fact a person acts out of the ordinary is annoying to them
Fr she just hates them because they’re autistic
Not because of any symptoms

Because someone is autistic doesn't mean it is a bad thing and autistic people should never be bullied for being autistic. I'm currently in college studying to become an autistic educator to future and current autistic, neurodivergent and disabled students.
@@kaishawna3753 that's amazing that you're getting into a career that will not only help others and educate but something that's also so close to you!!
Yeah the bullying sucks, but I do have some hope with the more people who bring awareness, and just basic understanding about autism and it seems like each generation is getting a little bit better than the one before. Especially when it comes to subjects like these.
@@hburke45Thank you!! Like she only became “nicer” to Heavenly because Ralph made her a good milkshake and is smart. Basically she only hung out with Heavenly because she was smart. The montage only showed Heavenly helping Tessa with her projects, they did nothing outside of school. They didn’t show them having a sleepover, hanging out at the diner, or anything! Only school. Why? Because Heavenly can’t have a personality outside of being smart.
I’m autistic myself, and I’m not smart. But atleast I have different interests than school stuff. For example I like Tim Burton movies, anime, drawing, cats, clowns, and vampires! Please make your autistic characters have a personality and an interest other than school!
@@t1mburt0nsdandruff You hit the nail on the head! The mean girl started being nice to the autistic girl because of a fucking milkshake and she's good at math. It happens in a lot of Dhar's videos, certain people are treated like crap by others then those same people who treated them like crap end up being nice when they do something that benefits them and or end up being rich. One example, there's a video about a woman who was racist towards an Asian woman and blamed her for COVID and then she quickly changed her tune once she learned that the same woman she was racist and hateful to ended up being the doctor who made her daughter feel better.
11:24 oh, my God! You said this all so perfectly! Thank you
August is a legend.
@@IsaacWale2004 yep that he is… I am sorry that I didn’t discover him sooner… One day in late 2021 TH-cam randomly suggested this big long doorman reaction video thing and I laughed my tail off at it and how Auguste presented everything
My fellow people that are on the spectrum, I love you. :))
And thank you, August, for all of us!!!!
Hello, fellow person on the spectrum :)
I have not been formally diagnosed but when I was in 3rd grade I was with my crush and his grandma I told a story about my poop when I was a baby and his grandma was so horrified and I was so embarrassed and confused and I didn't understand that it wasn't okay to share that with people and I just don't understand stuff in general like that like social interactions and jokes and sarcasm and would count to bricks in the wall at school and start all over again until it ended the number seven and tons of things I did that I didn't know what was wrong with me
August, I love your work, but honestly you've just issued a challenge to Dhar Mann. He's gonna find a way to make it worse, just you watch
Also...why is it that people seem to think being on the spectrum is some kind of superpower? I'm sure in some cases that it does enhance certain aspects of a person's capabilities, but there are very real cases of people suffering because of their disability
I bursted out laughing at the tip scene. The man just turns his head around like the terminator about to execute you and shouts"16 dollars and 33 cents" lmao
The only good thing about that dhar Mann video was actually that 20% math trick- I never thought about it like that before but the message is completely wrong.
