- Why Houston Rockets Make Sense As Opt-In Trade Partner For Paul George & LA Clippers
Host Jackson Gatlin (@JTGatlin) discusses whether or not the Houston Rockets should pursue a trade for LA Clippers star Paul George this offseason, why PG13 could be available in the first place by leveraging his ability to opt-in to the final year of his contract and be traded to a team of his choosing, what the deal could like from the Rockets perspective, how PG's role would be different in Houston than LA playing off of Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun and more.

COMMENT: Would you want the Rockets trade for Paul George?
Not trade but sign would be great
Not for a trade unless it means getting rid of players not in the core 6. Maybe Jalen or Bari if so.
No. I don’t want any over the hill vets. He’d cost a lot of our top prospects and command a max or near max deal. I don’t want to trade for any “star” over the age of 30. Hard pass.
Makes sense Paul George would be the perfect star level player that can help out our young guys. I would be ok with giving them some of the Nets picks.
But yeah the Clippers would probably want like Cam in the deal don’t think I would do it. Paul George is old at this point in his career for us to give up any of our young guys
Depending on the extension which should be no more than 2yra.
I wouldn't trade. He stay hurt to much. Never come through in playoff. Keep coaching young guys!
No. It would be way too expensive for a guy who, in his age 35 season, isn't on even close to our timeline. They're going to be asking for at least like four 1st round picks. For one or two good years? That's nuts.
No they wouldn’t bro
Tari Amen and Cam along with Green and Sengun is all we need for the future
Ya to keep going 41-41 and missing the playoffs
you'd rather have Tari than Bari? 🤦♂🤦♂
@@ffbeexaid4509 I would rather have 1 Tari over 3 Jabari's lol
@@user-ir3me8hf1gso you're saying player development is non existent?
@@williamg7138 I don’t believe Jalen green is that guy 🤷 and honestly sengun is cool but he’s not a franchise player he can’t lead us to a finals id trade them both I like I like amen Jabari is a great 3rd option on a contending team defense and 3 point shooting and also tari for that 3&d
Let’s see how the 6 marinate a year and who shakes out on top. We aren’t championship bound on a PG13 timeline anyways. Eason may be the guy at the 3.
1 Fred
2 Jalen
3 Tari
4 Bari
5 Sengun
Let it go a year. If anyone doesn’t improve, consolidate and make a splash next year.
Not just no but hell mf NO!! How many times over the years especially when James Harden played here did we give up players who became badass playing somewhere else bc they never got a chance playing here?! If that means giving up Cam, Amen, Sengun or Tari then they need to take that sh!t somewhere else, im not going to watch my team give up players that we havent even what they can actually be. Now Jalen I wouldnt mind if he went somewhere else, im not going to watch him play another year being less than mediocre and then ball out the last month of the season and I hate to say Jabari but if he can't make free throws in crucial moments that could either make us or break us then he has to go.
You shouldn’t even discuss this topic in your Locked on podcast. It’s a shame. It’s a no go area for me. These are the kind of players who disrupt a working system and then leave to another team time and time again. This is not the way to create a culture we want in the Rockets. An aging Paul George is not gonna lead u to title so why spend a whooping $48m on him. If you’re gonna pay huge $48m to PG,$43m to Fred, (superstar salaries) then the Rockets should be talking of winning the title next season, but with PG & Fred that is not happening . In fact how can a rebuilding team pay $48m & $43m to two players. The highest paid Orlando Magic player is Jonathan Isaac, he earns $17m a year. I’m really disappointed in you even bringing this up
We need a big man in the center.
We already have 4 bigs in the roster
PSA: Steven Adams is on the roster.
It would be a very very bad idea. He is often injured and guess what it's not going to get better but worse. If you're going to make a deal like that make it count. Find someone that is younger and a much better on the injury history.
He just played 74 games this season lol. Shocker that once the NBA stops load management culture from existing he goes back to playing 70+ games like he was in OKC & Indiana.
At 1st impulse my immediate thought was absolutely not. however I elected to hear you out. after listening to you I still feel the same way. I would much rather chase Imgram with the Peligans as a Brooks replacement. he better fits our time line and if he can be had without giving up any of the core six I would jump on it. he would probably cost at least a couple of the brooklyn picks maybe this year and next year, but it would be a piece we can build with instead of a place holder.
We don’t need to trade for an old player. What we need is for green and Jabari to step it up and become the stars we all thought they’d be.
Forget Green! He will only step down.
All these players that wouldn’t even make us contenders. PG like many have said is always hurt. All his time in LAc has had injuries. And giving a lot of picks and players wouldn’t make sense. If it’s just Tate and Dillon maybe.
Anyway PG is happy in LAC I doubt he will leave LA
PG doesn’t “compliment” the rocket being at a position that 3 of our 6 core players play in. Just take opportunities from those players….
He compliments them, given hes a guy that is basically a lock for shooting 38%+ from 3 and can handle the ball. Elite shooter and capable ball handler. Currently the only guy we have with that skillset is Fred
why would we ever trade for paul george😭
I think this would be a great idea if we pair it with another trade for star like Mitchell or Trae young. We’re not going to be able to pay all of the core 6 so a consolidation of assets like that would be great for the present and future.
we don't have to pay anyone but Alperen and Jalen any time soon so I think we should keep the core six together for now
@@samueldeblaw9677 100% true but by the time all the rookie contracts are over we will have needed to make consolidation trades
Hellllll no
If PG13 was 2years younger I'd do it. It depends on the contract he's asking for - probably too rich for me. I would explore other deals.
Hell na short and sweet
NOOOOO
All superstar player available are all injury prone type players. Don’t want Zion, Kawhi, Paul George, Jimmy butler,Joel Embiid, or Brandon Ingram. All great players who can’t stay healthy. The rockets have something good going for them. I like to see rockets trading green for donavon Mitchell and Mikal bridges. We have so many assets to get both.
They can trade brooks and landale and 2nd rounders
I think P would be kinda a lateral move there are other ways for us to be better
You're deranged if you think PG is a lateral move from Brooks
@@iCheckMyPulse I mean it’s not like we’re getting P to make a run at the finals. He just turned 34 and wants the bag. Ya he’s a bona fide star but I don’t think it’s the right fit. Brooks is younger, healthier, and will retain value. The last thing we needed is a guy who we leveraged a lot for sitting out due to injuries
@@VivaChandles this would make sense if Brooks was a good player, but im gonna assume you just did not watch the video at all because the proposed trade would not be leveraging a lot at all, and PG wouldnt be brought in to be THE guy for us just a 2nd/3rd option as a guy that is an elite shooter, good ball handler, and can get his own shot to take pressure off of everyone else.
Also its not a coincidence PG only started missing substantial time when he went to the Clippers who have a culture of load management, and when the NBA made a rule against it for All-NBA teams this year he jumped back up to being a 70+ game guy like he was pretty much his entire career in Indy and OKC.
PG would also take up to much cap space. Not a realistic trade rumors are out not by our team but other teams.
PG's contract with LA Clippers has a player's option. PG can decide which team is best for him. No need for a trade.
well the question is will any team offer him $48M for next season..
Give the draft rounds we already have enough young talents. We should focusing on How to be a competitive playoffs team. Nothing more. Pg13 could share his exps with our youngs and all its done.
one of the best abilities is availability and PG has a problem with that area
If you all think that Paul George, KD or James harden will lead the Houston Rockets to titles then you all must be living under a rock. These are declining stars been recycled every year, moving from one team to another without achieving anything. The Rockets should copy okc, magic, nuggets model bro. Today Where are the clippers, the lakers, the sixers, the warriors, the Bucks? All with superstar players. A new power block is emerging in the form of the nuggets, okc, pacers, knicks, magic, Timberwolves. So You guys should stop this idea of recycling aging stars who haven’t achieved for their previous teams. Let the Rockets add role players esp shooters, and focus more on developing the talents they have. Finally Paul George will surely hinder Cam and Eason development
I agree on all but Imgram I think he is worth a gamble.
@@samueldeblaw9677 I don’t think BI would be a culture guy. If you look at OKC since the last 5 years they’ve not made any major trade, they just improve their roster from draft picks and then adds a role player. The result is, they now have a very compact team, and have built an excellent chemistry together. That’s the model I want the Rockets to follow.
I'd prefer 26 y/o Brandon Ingram who will be on the last year of his contract ($36M/yr), and is rumored to be leaving New Orleans. Package Dillon Brooks, Jock Landale & Jeff Green and salaries would match up pretty well. Add BKN's 2024 draft pick and then you have a decent trade package. Starting lineup: Fred Van Vleet, Jalen Green, Brandon Ingram, Jabari Smith Jr, Alperen Sengun. 4-man rotation: Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore, Tari Eason, Steven Adams. With only 1 more year in Ingram's contract, it would fit perfectly with the start of the contract extensions of our core 6. This move would not only immediately improve our starting lineup, but also give us full cap flexibility to move with our core 6 from the year the contract extensions kick in.
hell no. we need to trust the process and be patient
Trade for Donivan Mitchell
We don't want PG in HOUSTON let him go destroy another team culture leave us alone we good
Your brain is so fried
I rather someone like Booker than PG.
We good how we are. We got baby daddy Jalen Green and Alpi
All we have to do is start eason over brooks
Almost every super star player could be traded this off season Anthony Davis Kevin Durant Devin booker Giannis trey young Donovan Mitchell I would much rather have 1 of those guys then pg13 Tbh and I feel like we’re going to get 1 of those guys
Absolutely no hes done
Trade the 3rd pick for the number one pick and a few players Jalen, our center our highest paid point guard not our other draft picks but anyone else can go
Man if PG comes here on a max he has to be that guy. Fred is great but that contract is awful for what he provides to this team.
I would go for him definitely.
We already went through that with James harden now you want to do that for Paul George shut up get off the gas we going to build our team up like OKC
PG13 would be great but I would rather target Brandon Ingram
Yes...But I would preefer Jalen from OKC
Why rebuild then start over where you were before ?
No
Hell no. It would be stupid to give up our young asset's for him at that age
He said Dillion brooks, Tate, landale. No young guy. Just first round pick this year. That would be a good deal.
@@Moeradwan45 well that's not that bad. Just depends on how many pics you going to have to give up
Who can we trade Jalen for?
Brooks and both Greens for PG. I would not include any picks. The potential of what that pick could be or what it could get in a later trade far exceeds the value of a bust Jalen Green. That pick could get us a real shooter like Sheppard. PG for Green and Brooks consolidates talent so we have an upgrade on the wing and then more minutes open up for Cam, Amen and Tari. As for his extension i would give him 2 years so that his contract is no different to what Brooks currently is with us for.
Clippers fan spotted
No! I’ve been a long time Rockets fan. About 40 years to be exact. I say no again. If he’s that good, the Clips will not trade him. He’s washed up. Unless the Clips will take the players that the Rockets don’t want. Only the Drexler trade brought a championship. Barkley, Pippen and the rest destroyed the team more. Harden was an addition and not a trade.
no no no
I thought we should of traded for him when we were trying to get rid of harden
Id give the Clippers Dylan Brooks and 2 second rounders. Take it or leave it
NO! We don't need him...if we do add a veteran piece I prefer Butler than PG13...
Why trade for Paul George when there are some good free agents out there to sign without giving up anybody? There is no way Paul George wants to play for the Rockets.
He loves Jalen Green & Alperen Sengun, has been like extremely vocal about that.
We don't have capspace to sign an FA.
@@y2jt585 If we don't pickup the player options on Tate, Landale and Jeff Green it will open up around 23 million in cap space.
No.
They should trade Jock and a far off top 4 protected first and two seconds for Alex Caruso. Let the Clippers sit and spin.
No. Trade for CP3 and Harden and reunite them on our bench. Then you have them playing with Steven Adams.
Build from scratch u have the talent and they barely missed the playoffs so if you want a trade trading your pick to Atlanta for their pick and add a few players except Eason Jabari cam and Thompson but everyone else can get traded and they can still win now Eason is better than Jalen green all round hustle and player
No he's washed. The best aging star available is KD.
kd is cooked.
Also watched there are six players starting over thirty in the playoffs right now@@Lee-sn2dp
@@Lee-sn2dp better than PG 🤦🏽♂️ this a sign we shouldn't go after any of these old heads
Hell no
Your comment is cooked @@Lee-sn2dp
PG would be atrocious for the Rockets. We need a reliable movement shooter and that's it.
PG is Westbrook 2.0 with Icy-Hot technology include plus the Globetrotters module for an extra $20MM.
Somehow Rockets needs to trade Brooks. If not he can come of the bench. Do not care if he is expensive. Highest paid bench player.
I can give you ten reasons why he doesn't make sense but why even bother? He is too old and not a fit for our timeline.
Hell naw!
Should Rockets Trade 🚀 For Paul George? You said, “Kinda makes sense?” It makes absolutely no sense. PG13 is JH13 🧔🏾♂️ 2.0! It’s ironic how these two titleless 🏆 playoff Houdini’s 🪄ended up on the same team. Now that is the real definition of ‘Doubling Down’. The LA Clipperships 🚢 should be ready to throw both of those deckhands overboard 🌊 before the vessel sinks. It would be totally ASININE for the Rockets 🚀 to trade anybody for Paul George other than Ex-Clipper Boban Marjanović.
We will make the play offs for sure with him so I’m good with it.
No thanks.
When I was watching Clippers - Mavericks matchup, praying Clippers to lose so that Paul George trade would be more possible since Dillon Brooks is overpriced for this performance.
Dumb move. He is not the guy that can put a team on his back and carry the to a chip. He is possibly the number 2 or 3 on a championship team. And he’s such a big expense. The only reason to bring him in is if you have or have plans to get your number 1 and possibly number 2
@Chris-uq7in I said the same thing. Brandon Ingram will be a better fit
He's not leaving LA
No to PG. And trade Steven Adams too. He's old and coming off a knee injury.
We could've done better, or can now than Adam's
Fuck no!
Hell no...I rather have James back, We already know James would spread the ball around, this go round we have talent & youth... This current pg, tempo sims to slow the team down, I say bring Harden & Pat back...🤘
No!!!!!!
I say no to PG he’s never available when you reall need him
Nope!!! Trading for Pg13 is Stupid
Derozen!!!
Jg + alpi = it doesnt work.
Solve this fkn problem first then find a star who can fits well with jg or alpi. Also must send jabari.
I’ll trade Tate, Jock, and Brooks for PG
Sengun
Smith
Eason
Green
Thompson
🔥
No! Houston needs a 3 point specialist like seth curry, yuta watanabe or lauri markkanen; PG13 is too old and expensive
I would do the trade.
No the Rockets should not trade for Paul George he is always injured like Kawaii Lenard. LA didn't win with him neither will the Rockets with him. Unless we can keep our core six Jalen Alperen Tari Jabari Amen Cam
If we trade it needs to be Seguin he can definitely go he is down righ horrible on defense and slows down the flow of our offense.
Embii to Rockets... Bye Sengun Bye Tari Bye Vred Bye Dillon... !!!
Hell no😢
I don't like Paul G I'll go for Kevin Durant.
An aging, inefficient star. No thank you. He’s in upgrade over Brooks but I don’t think it’ll make a significant difference over running it back.
I would say no 2 years ago.Yes today no
What if george and mann for jalen green and two future draft pick and brooks
95% of the people in these replies legit did not even watch the video and it shows
Sometimes it be like that 😂
Exactly
no you gotta add some pieces the draft pick is useless in this draft especially at 9 and nobody wants Tate, Lansdale respectfully...lowball>.
If we are gonna add a washed star player lets go for jrue holiday instead
What if jalen in package would you do it i liked it because jalen will leave this toxic houston fans who hate him a lot and want him to be traded last year
I like PG13 and I love the idea of adding a high end 3 and D wing that can be a star. However his age alone is enough to make me say no thanks. I want someone with that same Star or superstar potential that is closer to our age range like upper 20s right around 30. Booker is ideal. But the PG13 idea is on the right track
No trade for PG. To me, he is a bad egg. He doesn't have the desire to win.
Correct
in addition he is a recycled broken down bag of hot air living off past greatness
Shhhhh! No thanks!
No Jackson you always starting bulshit
34 years old. NOOOOO!!!!
The package you are offering is a BIG NO. Your not taking out the fan out of the deal. The package would have to be Jabari Smith, Whitmore and some picks. That's the only way it will work.
Worst idea to trade for a 35 year old!!
Hands down we need Dillon Brooks he just set the boundary 4 hour core 6, explain why you trying to hurt our team,
