Hi, I have not yet purchased from Cheap Joe's as of yet...but hope to.. More importantly though is your purpose and vision, and caring about the people you serve.. This video means a lot to me... All businesses should learn from you... Thank you.. You are true caring Americans!
I am so glad you are carrying on your father's and grandfather's mission to make art accessible for everyone using high quality supplies and lots of loving encouragement. Your dad/granddad was a magnificent human being.
I LOVE Cheap Joe’s. I’m a Boone resident and shop at the store regularly. I so appreciate the quality of the supplies, and the care of each staff member. They have always been super helpful and encouraging. Joe was a wonderful and kind man. I miss his smile, his quiet voice, and his unwavering encouragement that, yes, I can do it. Thank you for continuing his vision!
In the mid 80’s taking art classes at Coastal Carolina College in SC, professor said “you have to use quality art supplies. And the best deals are at a place in Boone NC called Cheap Joe’s.” And it still is. As an art teacher years later I got to meet Joe at a state conference in NC. Joseph I think you were there too. Joe was one of a kind. What a blessing 💝
I attended Joe's watercolor workshop in 2005 and fell in love with Joe, Cheap Joe's Art Stuff, and Boone. You have enriched both my life and my art. I have bought my supplies from you since that workshop and tell my friends to do the same. Thank you for you dedication and determination.
I LOVE Cheap Joe's!! When I get your catalog, it's like I'm a kid at Christmas, sticky-noting every page! I buy a very large majority of my supplies from CJ's. You are my first choice for art supply companies. My only regret is that I never got the chance to take a workshop from your Dad. You are truly blessed to have had a Dad like you did. I cried when I heard of his passing, and lit a candle so God would hear my prayers to escort him straight into Heaven. I know you have some big shoes to fill, but both of you, stay true to who you are while you honor your Dad and Grandpa. I will never stop buying my supplies from Cheap Joe's! His spirit lives on, for sure. ❤
I cannot thank Joe Miller enough and now yourselves for quality, affordable art supplies! I tell anyone who is interested, to buy from Cheap Joes first, and anyone else if it cannot be found on Cheap Joes. Quality, affordability and wonderful education on all the products! Thank you again and for the phenomenal catalogue! So happy to see the family business continue !
Love this video! I was just in Boone 3 weeks ago for Kristy Kutch’s colored pencil workshop and met Meghann and her dad, Joseph. So much fun to see them in this great video. Both wonderful people who took such good care of us. Cheap Joe’s is my favorite place to take a workshop. I’m just sorry I didn’t get to meet Joe, their dad/granddad. What a touching tribute to a one of a kind man. (Hi Meghann! This is Patti from Michigan. We sat across from each other at dinner that week. Thanks for everything!)
Wow! Thank you for this fabulous video!! 🎉🎊 Both of you have expressed beautifully your love of Joe Miller and brought to life how Cheap Joes came to be & where it is going . Cheap Joes is my art store of choice. ❤ 👩🏻🎨 It is a real treat to visit your Boone location & I do that as often as I can. My husband enjoys visiting your Boone store & he doesn’t even paint! I talk to everyone I know about how wonderful your Cheap Joes store is, the marvelous staff I have met, the wide variety of top notch art supplies and how much I love American Journey watercolors, Kilimanjaro paper & everything about Chesp Joe’s! I know that I can ask any of your welcoming, engaging staff a question about any product and I will get a well thought out answer based on experience and knowledge. Over the years your staff have been a key part of my art journey. Thank you for your commitment to the wonderful memory of Joe and for the future you see for Cheap Joe’s!! 🎉❤👩🏻🎨
Finding a company like yours is so rare. You truly are a treasure and our living up to your father’s values. Thank you so much. As a person with physical disability now on a fixed income, you have no idea what your company means to me have the policies and values. ❤
I remember buying supplies when you were in Boone Drug and I was so happy when you went big time with the store in the industrial park. Now I mail order or occasionally shop at your Asheville location. It's been amazing to watch the journey of your company and I wish you many more successful years!
I never met Joe in person, but corresponded with him back in the 1990’s. I ordered my watercolor supplies from Cheap Joe’s and quite often he sent me a sample of a new brush or “gadget” he offered in the store (like the “oiler boiler” squirt bottle) . I still treasure the soft covered book filled with his watercolors he gave me, “Thrice Told Tales” which he signed with a personal message to me.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful message. In 2015 I started teaching myself to watercolor paint. Our dear friends Harry and Mary told me about their client Cheap Joe Miller…which led me to your website and channel…and Karlyn Holman videos …which led me to workshops and travel to Italy, Spain and Ireland…and finally Boone!! Sadly, the workshop with Joe was permanently cancelled, so my dear friend and I made up our own workshop and met Joe (and Phil!!) at the store and had the best time. I am SO thankful I met Joe in person. He was everything H & M said he would be. Funny!!! Charming!!! Generous!!! Kind!!! The tour of his personal work and collection was a dream. My friend and would LOVE to come back for an in-person workshop next year. Such a special place.
Loved, loved, loved your Dad and never met an artist that didn't. He was a sweetheart and definitely one of a kind. I was so sad to recently learn of his passing. He literally changed the watercolor world and that of other mediums after that. I'm so grateful to have known him and for his role in my art career. He was an amazing, generous and kind person. I'll forever be grateful to him.
I can remember the first time I received one of your catalogs in the mail, way back when you had to fill out an order form and mail or call on the phone to place an order. I was fascinated, spending hours pouring over the fabulous art supplies I was unable to find in my local art store at the time. Over the years, Yarka kolinsky brushes, Cheap Joe’s Watercolor and Sketchbooks, Kilimanjaro paper and American Journey watercolors kicked my enthusiasm for painting to a whole new level. Thank you for being there all these years with affordable and unique art supplies.
I feel a connection to Joe! I’m a pharmacist, I have always been “artsy and crafty”… I got more seriously into watercolor about 5 years ago. I am also pretty cheap lol I love visiting the Asheville store. I’m excited to see your company grow and love supporting a WNC company ❤
I met your dad at an Art Convention in Florida…he was a fun and generous man with a great smile and a mild manner! It has been a while since I’ve produced any art, but I do intend to get back to it!!! I’ve purchased so much from your online store, and will continue to do so!
Hey, Joe -- We need you and Megan to open a store in Pinehurst, NC! There are five galleries within a few miles of each other that show local artists' work, a community college that provides art classes, an Artist' League of the Sandhills, and several small shops that sell paintings and provide lessons. We only had Hobby Lobby and Michaels locally to get supplies, and both places have significantly reduced their stock. Michaels has nearly eliminated it. So, please, please think about coming here. I just know that a feasibility study would guarantee that this is a profitable market. All of us who paint here would love to see you here, in a "brick and mortar" store.
I love this. Thank you. My son, one Christmas, my son gave me a series 7 watercolor brush #8. It was $50.00 so you know how old it and (I) are. I still have it. It’s not in great shape but it is such a treasure. It stays with me. Loved hearing about your Dad.
We need a Cheap Joes in our area! There is not one art supply store in my state. Craft stores have few professional supplies and that is it. I loved your story, what a blessing to have grown up with an exciting art family.
I attended a workshop at your Boone location last year. What fun it was, and what a privilege to get a tour of Joe's office, the hallway "gallery", and the warehouse. Boone is a lovely town, the workshop was great, and you all treated us like royalty. Best luck in all you do in carrying on Joe's legacy.
I'm so glad that you made this video. I had ordered from Cheap Joes a long while ago & I had not been doing much art for the last several years & to be honest I had forgotten about your company. I wish I had know Mr. Mileer what a gem. I am so glad to hear that your family will be carrying on & as I am painting again I will be needing some supplies & will be ordering soon.
I was delighted to see art supplies at this little drug store in Boone, NC while traveling through the area in the late 80s. Have been ordering ever since. Thanks!
I live in St Paul, Minnesota, so I shop for art supplies at Wet Paint here in town. They are small, and if they don’t stock what I want, I order from Cheap Joes.
I love what you offer and do. I live in a small college town, Lexington, VA. We do not have good art supplies and you have met all my needs. Thank you!
I have always been happy with my purchases with Cheap Joes . And I love the fact that they test every product that is awesome ! Keep up the great work!
I am an artist and I went to Du Cret School of the arts. I used to buy my supplies from Pearl Paint when I was attending Du Cret. Cheep Joe's art stuff reminds me of Pearl. I will check it out. Thank you for posting this.
So happy to have this come up on my feed. I will be traveling all summer and Boone NC is one of our stoops! I will be coming in to visit your stores! I am new to water coloring and just took it up after teetering in August!. So happy you are staying a family owned company-we need more of them! God Bless!
I’d be very interested in see one of your dads paintings. I really enjoyed this video and hope you have a great future. Your dad really lived a great life.
Wish you would open shop here in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area of NC. Our area is booming and we have so many local artists here and no where to buy supplies except online. I personally like to look at all the products.❤️🎨
I really appreciate your website and how i can mark my favorite and how i can mark items to notify me when they drop on sale . Your site is so much easier to navigate than other bigger stores . I shop faster cheaper all from San Diego California .

I am so glad you are carrying on your father's and grandfather's mission to make art accessible for everyone using high quality supplies and lots of loving encouragement. Your dad/granddad was a magnificent human being.
I’m an artist, I appreciate all of your endeavors! Keep chasing it - that dream!
As a senior citizen I was so happy to have found Cheap Joe's. Sorry for your loss
