I received mine on Saturday, October 21. Thanks for letting us know that you don't need the ugly saucer stand. You're right. It's AWFUL. I also do not remember being informed about having to remove the batteries. That's a complete pain in the ass.
    Edit:
All in all, I'm still satisfied with it. My only hope is that they produce a 1/350 scale replica of the NCC-1701 Refit Enterprise from Star Trek: The Motion Picture (NOT the Wrath of Khan, since ILM dulled that one down for filming).

I would love a TMP Enterprise as well. As far as the secondary saucer stand, it's definitely a personal judgement call - I think it should be ok but like another poster said here it could start to sag due to the weight over time so I don't know.
Overall though, I am also really enjoying it so far too. :)

Generally speaking, most times nowadays it’s recommended to remove batteries in between uses. So you don’t forget them for several years and they leak.
    I agree. It’s not perfect.
Hopefully they learned a few things on this one. I funded the BTTF 1/10 delorean. And I hope it will be ok.
Your enterprise on display does look amazing and for the general population, I think they will be impressed when you show them. But high end collectors may notice the imperfections.
It’s a nice piece overall. Be well

I'm guessing for the batteries they meant that if you're not going to be using it for a while, you should remove the batteries. I can't imagine having to turn the whole thing upside down to access the saucer's battery compartment every time you want to turn it on.

Yeah, pretty sure that's what they meant. Some batteries leak and corrode if you leave them in for a long time (think years) due to the buildup of hydrogen from usage, so it's not really an issue with the product but with batteries in general.

You probably figured out by now there's a power cycle button on the saucer and engineering section. I've had mine a week and no sign of draining while turned off. I just run it short periods of time though.

  • @inkermoy
    @inkermoy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I just put mine together yesterday after watching a bunch of videos. Mine sits on a table in my dining room which is kind of a traffic area. I'll keep it on the saucer stand. It is gorgeous sitting there! I didn't read about the battery issue either, that's going to be really annoying and will require you to separate the 2 parts.
The saucer separation seems like it was a bug that they turned into a feature. Being so heavy relies on the stand, so they decided to give an in-canon reason for it.
I wasn't expecting Tomy to make a truly accurate replica on par with Master Replica's version. Firstly, Tomy is a toy company. Secondly, it was only $600 compared to MR's $1200. And while you plug in the MR for lights and rotating Bussard collectors, the motors are really noisy. Tomy's are literally whisper quiet.
I'd like to see what modders can come up with. Better less obscuring stands, maybe a battery workaround. That last part would probably require you to take it apart, but at least you know where the screws are! LOL!
Is this the largest die cast toy Tomy has put together? Whenever I think of diecast, I always think of Matchbox cars and tiny aircraft toys. Surely this holds some record somewhere.

I thought, Ah, well, disposable (or rechargeable) batteries it shall be. But after seeing your video, and the hoops you have to jump through to turn the thing on and off ... sloppy. The ship looks like it’s on a respirator with that stand. Based on the delta base, the could have had to supports with cradles under the nacelles from the points, one strut with cradle for the secondary hull and one resting support for the prima hull. It would sit snugly, be prevented from sagging and would obstruct ad much of view while on display.

Truth is, all the lights should be USB or plug in so you don't ever have to worry about it. You hit it once and it goes for 15 minutes, you hit up to five time for an additional 15 each hit so it never just keeps running. And that's all you ever do, no unscrewing shit for batteries, that's a pain in the ass. It should also be strong enough not to need a reinforcing stand for the saucer section, it just destroys the look completely, you can't un see it. And for me, I could care less if the saucer section separates, it's pointless and I'd never display it that way. Use a lighter metal for the saucer and two screws you knucklebrains. Hello McFlly!

My cousin is a tech expert, owns his own company. He says the instructions give that warning because the board uses a small amount of power when not in use. Also says it could be modified with a cut off switch discreetly hidden. NO WAY I'm going through all that. I'll use high quality Lithium batteries. I use it sparingly anyway. Mostly on weekends.😄 But I must say I do love it, despite the flaws. Wanted one ever since I was a kid and my Enterprises would regularly fall apart.

Nice looking tos enterprise overall...not a fan of all the seams, or the stand for the saucer section. It would have been better with an ac adapter. I noticed that the port side windows aren't lit either...could be a connection issue, or possibly weak batteries. Is it worth $600.00+...no. Maybe if they tweaked a few things, and added an on/off switch, and ac adapter, sure I could see $600.00. I've build that model in the 1:350 scale, detailed it, I put a lighting kit in it for way less, and no seams, no lighting issues, and no batteries, and it came with an on/off switch.

I have been saving watching this video for a few days, because somehow I didn't even know about this item at all until I saw a bunch of fellow Trekkies getting them recently. I have to say the battery thing is frustrating. It does look great, but that sadly won't last long with AAs. Why is the top of the saucer yellowed? Is that more based on the filming model. I think that would be a deal breaker for me personally if they end up selling any more at some point. It might be model accurate, but not show accurate and it just feels like age of the product not screen accurate. Either way bud I'm glad you reviewed it and whenever you get Trek videos you know I love the Trek love from time to time.

Thanks Mav. :) Yeah, the paint apps are based on the filming model that is in the Smithsonian. I think on the Tomy model they may have gone a little too dark with that band of yellow across the front of the saucer but you can see what they were shooting for here. Actually the original was quite a bit more weathered than I would have thought whether that was simply due to the age of the actual prop or how it was supposed to be portrayed on screen for a show from almost 60 years ago I have no clue.

Yeah, we'll see. I have a Hot Toys R2-D2 with those touch pads AND an on/off switch and if that on/off switch isn't turned off the batteries will drain out in a cpl of days whether the lights are on or not. So the fact that the Enterprise doesn't have a switch is concerning. But we'll see.

I've had mine a week. Batteries are fine. No sign that they are draining when not in use. But USB power would have been smarter.

There's a button to turn off the saucer and engineering hulls. I've had a week and batteries are still good. We'll see.... Appreciate the honest review.
