With Califori's arrival, my humble opinion is that Zinni needs to relinquish the left back role and be used solely in midfield. Zinchenko is a defensive liability but can serve us well as a ball handler in midfield.
well, holding midfielder still needs to play strong defense, and with Marino on his way to club, i don't see a place for Zinchenko in midfield. He can be a good sub for us in the future.

He is a good player. But you shouldn't compare him to Maldini in any way until a decade down the line.
Actually if arsenal fans start having such expectation by comparing him to Maldini. They will be very disappointed. Calafiori is a very good player and has unique skills for a defender especially being left footed. However by comparing him to Maldini they are only putting unnecessary pressure on the kid. As he will make mistakes and still has a lot to learn. The same situation happened with tonali, he was suppose to be the next Pirlo and he is nowhere near.
And for you guys who watched Maldini playing the guy was a wall. The best defender I ever saw ( started watching football in 1986)

I disagree with the ben white comment, Calafiori is not going to overlap like white does, just because he's not as effective. I see him more stepping into midfield and allowing the lcm to overlap rather than himself

@@hegeliandianetik2009 But ben white has the physical ability to run up and down the pitch, maintaining a similar pace throughout. Calafiori isn't as consistent and loses his pace after a bit. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.
Yep...Calafiori will come inside as LB to give Rice or Timber opportunity to be more attacking and support Odergaard.
Rice and Timber will be our base midfield now...playing as interchangeable 6 and 8.
Calafiori can also be used as LCB to give Gabi a rest if needed. Tomiyasu will come in at LB in this line up.
A defensive unit of Raya, White, Saliba, Gabi, Calafiori, Rice and Timber will be almost impossible to break down.

You can have Timber on right White as CB to rest Saliba, Tommy on right White CB, Calafiori lcb Timber on left to rest Habby etc etc. Only worry is fitness of everyone that can play lfb. They might make up a 4 for a game of bridge in treatment room at one point 😢😮

Calafiori won't get in the first team yet, Gabriel and Saliba are probably the best CB pairing in the world right now.
As for LB we have Zinchenko and Timber there already and Tomiyasu can also play LB aswell as RB.
Kiwior struggles at fullback but is good left footed CB cover for Gabriel..
Edu and Arteta like to have 2 players per position and that's how our squad is built. This is our defence right now:
LB: Zinchenko/Timber
LCB: Gabriel/Kiwior
RCB: Saliba
RB: White/Tomiyasu
I think we've agreed to sell Kiwior but only if we can sign a replacement for him first, and that guy is Calafiori who can play LCB aswell as LB...

@@pedtalkssportsI agree with you, califiori is primary LB with Left Foot, allowing each fullback to progress and leave three “centre backs”. Timber will be used RB with right foot. This allows White to also be RCB, resting Saliba so we can play 60-games. Kiwior can focus on natural position, zinchenko used in suitable games. Four left, four right footers.

I think left foot better in recovery on left… timber better on right. now 60-games including UCL, Saliba and Gabriel need rest, and White is ready in RCB. We already lost a backup in Soares. Seems a good use of 8 out of 22 outfielders in squad… although I’d add a third striker to make 23.
