Steve Kmetko Firing Story w/Amy Yasbeck asking the questions

  • As a longtime entertainment reporter, I'm accustimed to "asking" the questions...
The rule has been, if you're holding the microphone, your job is to find out about the person you're aiming the mic at.
Today is different... I was asked to leave hollyood 20 years ago. Let's just say it wasn't my choice. Then again, to say that my life has been a strugggle after leaving the red carpets and achnor chair, would be overstating things. A little.
I knew the job was dangerous when i took it. ;)
This is Still Here Hollywood, and today, I'll telll you the story that I've never told, fully.
In recovery you learn "you're only as sick as your secrets". So with that in mind, I'm leaving the questioning to "Friend of the podcast", actor Amy Yasbeck.

I LOVED seeing Steve on E! I'll never forget seeing him covering the beach at Cannes. Madee feel that I was right there with him, the blinding sunlight, the palm trees, and the movie stars! I died when I couldn't see him anymore. Welcome back, Steve! We love you!

Steve, thank you for this. I listened to it while I was driving from Madison, to Milwaukee, to pick up my 85-year-old father (also named Steve) from a hospital after hernia surgery. My 78-year-old mother is in another hospital, I visit her tomorrow. She had two successful heart procedures a month and a half ago, just became diagnosed with cancer (we're going to fight it and win), and the fly in the ointment was a stroke. But just like you Steve, it was, what I called a "stroke of luck" 🍀Where there were no serious ramifications or rehabilitation. Everyone should be this lucky. Your stories comforted me at a time that I needed to hear them. Thank you again, for being vulnerable with your audience... we need a part 2 to this interview ♥

Steve Kmetko, you were my first celebrity crush, and the reason I was an avid viewer of E! News and E! Entertainment TV at all. It's crazy to think that, post E! News, someone with your talent, credentials and popularity would be offered a job that paid literally nothing. What were they thinking? Anyway, I appreciate that when you talked about working at an Apple Store you did it with grace and candor, but you were never dismissive of that kind of work as "lesser" or "below you." You really have a kind spirit and I am glad that you are doing this podcast. By the way, have you done voiceover work? You have a fantastic voice, deeply expressive and beautifully modulated, and I could definitely see [hear] you narrating books, trailers, doing advertising and whatnot, plus voiceover work in general (for animated series, movies, etc.). You are the best!!! Already subscribed!!

Mr Kmetco this was very painful to watch. I've only been able to watch half of it. This episode was supposed to be about YOU & YOUR story. I was so looking forward to hearing your story. Even though y'all swapped chairs Amy still thought this was all about Her. I'm sorry she didn't listen to you & give you the same respect that you give Her & everybody else. You handled her constant interruptions & over talking to you with such grace. There's a difference between an interview & therapy. Amy seems to think she's a therapist.
I'm sure Amy is a nice person & a good friend.
I hope you'll do this again with somebody who will let you share your story with us.

@@StillHereHollywood I respectfully disagree. Amy frequently talked over Steve, which seemed unnecessary. Basic interview etiquette involves being an active listener. While conversation is encouraged, Amy’s constant interruptions were distracting. It appears she believes she’s clever, but it came across as disruptive.

This is typical of how gay men get treated in society. We get screwed over by the system and have little to no recourse to fight it. We just had to accept it and make the best of life no matter what happens to us. In some ways it’s gotten better but yet still the same depending on where you live and what you do. Too bad you didn’t get a lawyer and sued them for wrongful termination.

I Loved Steve K E! News he was fantastic what a stupid excuse. give kudos to management. so what? They could ve suspend you for 1 month or negotioat contract even with half a pric$e for 1 year. I think it was more then that., ., they had someone else in there Mind I wonder who?? Craig Canier who was it? I think Steve K was the Best .. My English was not great those year and with all do honestly I always understood Steve he was so well spoken he was so good., ( not that my English is now perfect ) :) anyway , anyway He was fired very unfairly. I am 90% sure it was done because someone on position of higher power had "Someone else in there mind". PS never heard of Amy Yasbeck but I Adore her :) ! she is fun and seem very cool
