India is a peaceful and rich country. Every evil power in the world wants to loot India (which has occured many times in the past). We cannot be dependent on some other nation for our protection. In times of difficulty, every nation keeps themselves as their first priority. So should India do. We ourselves are responsible for our safety and security, plus we have ensure that we aren't an aggressive nation.
India is right in the game of nuclear powers but India did a blunder that just after our independence, we alienated ourselves from the world. If we have got a foreign policy like today in that era, that would have leaded to a much progressed India today. We should have made good relations to both USA and Russia from the start. It was Nehru's blunder that he distanced India from US which resulted in 1971 war USA's support to Pakistan.
Anyways, I support India in it's every righteous decision and good leadership.

First USSR bomb was RDS-1 and it was developed in 1949.

No, 1974 was successful but it was a very small scale testing. After that India wanted to do some more tests but a lot of things changed in country’s politics. After that we could only manage a stable government at the time of Atal ji & hence, conducted our 2 more tests.
