- BMFORMWORK EPISODE: 22 How To Strip My System of Forming Concrete Stairs plus Some common stair issues and problems.
In this video I show how I build my concrete formwork for off-form concrete stairs for a modern construction house. These are stairs outside on sloping ground. I breakdown some of the things that can go wrong and how to prevent them.

Bad concretor and bad chippie, no nosing on the steps, wrong angle on the underside of the ply .
What is the correct angle?
What are your thoughts on footing requirements at the upper or lower landing/ of steps? would you just do a thicker slab, or a couple pillars per slab?
The bottom step has a large thickening. Top doesn’t need one. Bottom always has one which keys it into the ground
sound lad videos very helpful as I'm in phase 4 doing a particle test and these tips go a long way thanks man
Thanks for watching
Seu canal tem me ensinado a aprender as palavras mais usadas em inglês nas obras e também o nome das ferramentas! Isso realmente é muito interessante, eu gosto desse tipo de trabalho
Best channel in Aus for concrete advice and tips
Thanks brother
No vibrator used during pour. Look at those clumps!
Hey mate what kind of hammer is that. And why did you purchase that style hammer? cheers
Hi, it is a German latthammer. I worked with some Germans and they let me use one for a while and I liked it. The pick is great for picking up timbers and you can put it into prop winders and use your hammer as a lever to wind props up and down. I will never go back to a claw hammer.
@@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 cheers mate thanks for your reply. I might look into getting one 👍
I’d love to see you make a video in how to form up a ramp
I haven't built a ramp for about 10-13years. it's just a stair without the rises...
Loving your videos. Surprised they didn't strip on the day. I'm building a concrete retaining wall atm & my neighbour keeps coming over to finish my concrete, meanwhile I just want to knock off & have a beer...😁
yeah I asked them, I was a bit surprised they didn't want to. I actually priced to pour these myself with a mate but we were double the price. well in the end we would have been much cheaper as I heard they are going to remove the stairs and get me to re-do them a third time!
Nothing compares to steel. Wood is great for wouldn't work.lmao
How is steel forms are fun to move when you don't have a crane...
Amazing forms
Thx
Can you use the concreate nails on fully cured concrete. Or do they only work on brick?
I plan to make a video on fixings I use and for each surface. I'm actually just using framing nails for timber. 2in into mortar. sometimes I add some concrete nails if mortar is a bit soft or a bit too hard. Into cured conc I usually drill a 6.5mm hole and use a tek screw with a piece of wire.
Amazing... greetings from Indonesian construction
hello
Can we get a morning make up tutorial guide in the next video please?
haha I'll have to get the Mrs to do that video
How long you let it sit before stripping
Stairs the next day. If you leave too long the timber can stain the conc. But if you are worried about chipping the conc it really hardens up after 3 days.
What kind of nails do you use to form ?
see my video here which shows the nails I use. I also use concrete nails sometimes into mortar. th-cam.com/video/ZBNsFjq9KW4/w-d-xo.html
Concreters: you don't always get what you pay for. I once queried a concrete mix. I was told...'IT ALL GOES HARD MATE!' I then had to pick his drinks cans out of the trench before threatening to throw him off site.
I refuse to deal with people with those attitudes.
@@bmformworkconcreteconstruc9783 I agree. Sad, especially when some of the guys can be super meticulous and really strive for the best. Sometimes it can be worth talking to the engineer and making some trial batches to get the right finish, then advising the concreters. The batch plant will mix up what you need. Many just go with a standard mix that could be easily improved on. Concrete technology is still moving forward at quite a pace.
Definitely see your disappointment mate, shit trades making your hard work look bad.
Happens too often 😪
Awesome! Did you do them a 3rd time!?
No, I didn't want to go back there
