I'm enjoying your videos and since I discovered them, I plan on doing a marathon catch up. with a "beverage" soon. Your hoyas are stunning. Thank you for sharing them as well as your knowledge. Kind regards. Pam
Pam - Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. Thanks, too, for the compliments. I'm always ready to talk about my plants, but my channel is about the only place where people want to listen. When I talk Hoyas to my friends, they all do the big eye roll.
You are totally right about Meredithii. dont like to be touched , don't like repot, its immediately show when she's not happy: dropping leaves, the vain gets dry..a beautiful diva..
Hi! H. Meredithii had been on my wishlist for a while. I was finally able to purhase one but the 2 leaf cutting didn't last more than 3 weeks. It didn't look so great when I got it so I was very disappointed. It's back on the wishlist but during that event I came across Hoya ah 032 on Etsy which looks very similar. Love your H. Meredithii, it's the best I've seen of the plant youtubers so far! My curtisii and obovata are slow growing but thriving. Thanks for sharing! Dee, NY
Your H meredithii experience is unfortuante since I don't see it very often for sale, but keep your eyes open because they do crop up from time to time. I'll have to check out the H AH-032, thanks for the suggestion, for watching, and for leaving a comment.
I just purchased a one leaf cutting of H. Meredithii from someone on facebook plant purge. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I sure hope I can get it to grow.
Hi! I really enjoy your video and your Hoyas! You're an amazing plant grower! Do you mind telling us what brand and kind of Hoya food you're using? Thanks!
Thanks for asking. It's not specifically Hoya food. Because many of my Hoyas are in semi-hydro I use the General Hydroponics "Flora" series. There are other brands, that's simply the one I use. Plants in semi-hydro will need some type of nutrient solution; and since it's there, I use it on my Hoyas in organic medium as well. Thanks for watching and posting your question.
Thank you, love your videos. You can maybe stabilize your trellis by just putting a green garden stake along one (or two) of the trellis legs and zip tying them together.
Thanks for your suggestion. I'd been thinking about zip-ties, I just hadn't figured out the "how" yet. I appreciate you watching and adding your comment to the conversation.
What a great video! And loved your mindful presentation on each plant. Same rescue of a soggy H curt. but will try your net pot method. And the H meredithii just got added to my wish list! Looking forward to your next video😊
Interesting comment about the curtisii. I bought one in September 2023 at a greenhouse. It too, was too wet, the pot filled with heavy regular potting soil. I monitor the moisture every week as I water my plants; many weeks I skip this plant. I have had great success in starting curtisii (now have 3). A sealed plastic container under grow lights works; the high humidity promotes root growth along the cut stem.
It seems as though everyone who has an H curtisii found it overwatered in a big box store. Another commenter said that rescuing an overwatered H curtisii was a "rite of passage" for Hoya growers. I'm going to try that idea for rooting cuttings. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
I'm getting a meredithii!!! Thanks 😊 New subscriber here... your content and presentation are so enjoyable to watch and listen to. forward to your next video.
Love Your hoyas, gorgeous to the limit. Apart from the aim how to meet the needs of each plant, the “architecture” of the sticks and support construction is my weaker side. Thank You 🌸🌿
That meredithii is outrageous! The utter audacity of those leaves! I feel like every hoya collector has had to rescue an overwatered curtisii from the big box store. It's like a rite of passage.
Thanks. The number of people who have told me a similar story about rescuing an overwatered H curtisii is staggering. I think you're correct - it's a rite of passage. I appreciate you watching and leaving your comment.
I love your videos because they're real, like this one. Adjectives are often relative. (How tall is "tall"? How large is "large"? What does "spreading" mean?") I've only got one hoya, but your videos have shown me better than any catalog could I can have a wonderful variety of leaf shapes, color and size with just this one plant variety. thank you.
Many thanks for sharing your beautiful Hoyas and your gorgeous Ludisia Discolor Orchid! I have an eight inch pot of Curtisii I picked up at Walmart and a four in pot that I bought at a local nursery a little over a year ago. The four inch pot grew very little her first year. I assumed she was sleeping. As soon as I brought home the 8 inch pot the 4 inch pot took off like a rocket.😊. My obovata was given to me as a gift by the nursery. She was un-rooted, one node and two leaves. I adore her! She grew strong and quickly. Yours is amazing! Thanks to your video I have added the Meredithiii to my Wishlist. She is stunningly beautiful! Take care and happy growing! 👌🪴🥰
Thanks for watching and adding your coments to the conversation. I take no responsibility for wish list additions, LOL. Best of luck with your collection.
@@PlantedInRI I’ve had a “wax plant” for yrs that didn’t grow or die…just lived. Took it out side one summer & it took off. Still don’t know what it is except Hoya. Also got 2 Carnosas that flowered. Think either Queen or tricolor. Love these plants.💖
That was so much fun! I also have a Hoya Curtisii. Mine also came with its own lake and I also used the paper towel at first but it needed to be taken from the pot that it was drowning in. I tipped it over and set it in a towel. I did this the next day as well. I had my doubts that it would bounce back because we know how fragile the roots are on hoyas. I am so happy with mine. It has been a little over a year and I am so pleased to have it in my collection in my kitchen window where it gets the morning sun and bright light and most of all my appreciation. ❤😊 Love your collection.
It''s great that your H curtisii survived its near drowning experience, the folks in the big box stores can be a little too diligent about watering sometimes. Thanks for watching and for adding your comment.
Thanks for watching. The H obovata is getting ready to bloom for the first time, so I won't be cutting until it's done. I'm working on ways to let folks know when I have cuttings available..
I also found my curtisii at Home Depot, two of them in 4-inch pots. I brought them home. I repotted them into self watering pots. This was after not being able to get the watering right. They're both racing to see who is going to win the race! I can't keep the reservoir full. They're in my airy soil mix. All the plants are beautiful. Great video as usual 👌🏽 👍🏼
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Once H curtisii gets established, it's such a fun plant. I may need to find a new location for mine since it's outgrowing it's spot on the plant shelf.
Thanks. I make the trellises. The idea came from Miro at Basie Plants. If you haven't discovered Miro, you need to find his channel. He's one of the best. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. I make the round tower trellises. Here's the link to the video where I show how I make them: th-cam.com/video/sMEh7yWw0EY/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching.
Thanks for asking. I make them, and refer to them as a Miro trellis. Lots of people have been asking about them, so perhaps I need to make a video. Thanks for watching.
I also found Hoya curtisii at Home Depot last July and it too was waterlogged. I took mine out and put it on towel to soak up extra moisture then put it outside in shade and it would not grow for 3 months and I couldn’t figure out how to prop it. It died. Have you propped it if so how. Thanks for sharing
I think H curtisii does better with a good amount of light, thought once they've been overwatered the recovery process can be very difficult. It was months before my plant showed any signs of growth. I did try propping it when I repotted, but I think my approach was wrong, and the props didn't make it. I'm tempted to try again with a different approach. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks for watching and leaving your comment
Since most of my Hoyas are in self-watering pots and an inorganic mix (passive hydroponic), I use a hydroponic nutruient solution. The one I use is the General Hydroponics "Flora" series, though there are probably others that work well, too. Should you try it, be sure to read and follow the directions very carefully. Thanks for watching and asking your question.
Thanks. Since most of my Hoyas are in some kind of passive hydroponic set-up, I use a hydroponic food with every watering. There are several brands on the market. I also tweak the amount of light a plant gets. Too much light can make some Hoyas look pale. Thanks for watching and asking your question.
The first Hoya is beautiful
Thank you. That Hoya AH-014 has become a favorite, but then I like them all. Thanks for watching.

Curtisii is one of my favorites. You are correct about not overwatering. They are not the most forgiving.
Yes, he likes his moisture, but in moderation. I haven't made him angry lately, so he's been doing fine. Thanks for watching.
