Report from Reddit: the author has stated "there won't be a follow up" however there is more to their comment. Technically spoilers ahead, but not really as it's the closest you'll get to a part 2:
Quoted from the author when asked for a part 2:
"My head cannon is that the humans arive, the first soldier removes his helmet, face carrying the scars of time. 'Tashi, you're all grown up.'
But that would be Tashi's story, not Danan's."
One last story before bed
This is the biggest lie I ever told to myself.
At first I was like
(Market) Fresh Hope! Get your fresh Hope! The original Human Hope just here at Uncle Sam's friendly prices!
At the end
Oh, right (embarrassed chuckle), that makes more sense.
It's stories like these that make me believe we won't have a 40k grimdark future. Because anyone who knows humanity knows that while we're capable of great violence and evil. There will always be people who choose to be kind. And whether the humans are coming or not. That kindness brings hope
yes
Hope is a terrible thing, on the scaffold
Oof
Yes
Why?!?
oof
Oof
Not much of an HFY story if the humans are no-shows...
The beacon of Amon Dîn is lit, hope is kindled.
