I've watched loads of these interviews with Rick now. What a lovely, honest, down-to-earth man. No regrets, no excuses, no pretence - just a warts-and-all reflection of the band's history. If only all successful musicians had this much integrity. RIP Mr. Parfitt. You were a one-off.
Never pissed off with Caroline opening the set. Just watching the 2014 Donnington video puts the hairs on the back of my neck just about pop out. Stunning
Although I remember "Juniors Wailing " as the opening number , for me , I prefer that to "Caroline" but I also still am staggered that Quo never released their finest song ever "Dont waste my time" off Piledriver .
Saw them on the "Quo" tour and they opened with Backwater & Just Take Me. On the "On The Level Tour" it was Little Lady & Most Of The Time. I seem to recall they opened with Junior's Wailing once.
Paper Plane doesn't work. So that is why it was done for 2 years as an opening track. Down Down doesn't work so that was done as an opener in 1990 winter tour and 1999 winter tour. Then you have Whatever you Want in 1986 to 1988. My favorite opener is Caroline though.
What a pleasure it is to listen to this series of interviews, not particularly a huge fan of Quo , but picked up on the bit with Slade ( of whom I’m a huge fan ) , Rick seems a great guy, not keen on the Francis Rossi interviews,it’s as if he on something, he’s very irritating, to be fair, they did some fantastic songs
It has to be Richard playing it, Malone plays it differently and a much better song without keyboards, listen to the Appolo album and it wasn't always the opener.

They tried opening with whatever you want for a while but it didnt work
Any publicity is good publicity. In those days for some reason, it seemed to be due to the drummer. Keith Moon , Bonzo 😂 & Spud and many more
No one plays rhythm guitar like Rick 😭
Paper Plane is just as good,if not better than Caroline for starting any gig.
