Mike Great video. Normally a 24 minute video would not hold my attention, but not so with yours. I enjoy the history lesson every bit as much if not more than the sword. I encourage everyone to support you on patreon and teespring to keep the great videos coming.
Another sword review! I'm enjoying the information and presentation. Since the panicdemic started and guns have become harder to get I've started carrying swords in my gun shop. These reviews are, therefore, timely and helpful. Thanks
Like you were saying... things improved. Old style chainmail gave way to riveted chainmail which helped defeat more pointed weapons. But... as we know, black powder was developed and then armor started going by the wayside.
Mike I love the sword videos I think they are very informative you are teaching me quite a bit about him but the only thing I knew was a ulfberht and of course a katana thank you for sharing your knowledge Joe Oklahoma
Re: 18:43 ...I think for a lot of people the interest in the later periods has to do with the emergence of documentation regarding sword techniques. Probably the same reason longswords are so popular; they have a lot of source material about them that survived and was translated. Of course they are also big and fast and flashy (I happen to be biased, like longsword, myself, but wish I knew more about sword and buckler, that was where it was at!)
I wonder how common duels were in the 1000 AD to 1300 AD period? I'd guess most fighting was in full kit on horseback, which is a lot different than fencing....a lot harder for most people today to replicate too. I would guess young knights trained for that, rather than sword and buckler fights. Even trial by combat for the nobility usually started on horseback in that era. Not something the average guy today can afford to buy into...though I know a few who do....but their incomes are far from average.
That climate change he talked about was apparently caused by a volcano island in Indonesia blowing itself apart. It caused a 2 year winter. The island is now known to historians as Ancient Krakatoa. One of the remaining pieces became the volcano island of Krakatoa which also blew itself apart in 1888. One of Krakatoa's pieces is currently the volcano island Little Krakatoa. It's only a matter of time.
@@duelist1954 Don't do that, TH-cam would be a little poorer. But on that subject, when I retire, I hope to go to Nepal and live as a goat! (British humour).
How did you get into the medieval stuff? Medieval stuff was huge in the Victorian era and Augustus Pugin brought back the gothic style to England in the Houses of Parliament in the Palace of Westminster.

Hi, Mike! Since you've gotten into swords, might we see you get into earlier projectile weapons, such as bows and slings, as well?
Good value with the Dynasty Forge blades. I have a feeling their quantity control is better with the European models than the Japanese. Have you read any Bernard Cornwell's books?
I currently do World War II reenacting and have been interested for years to get involved in doing medieval reenacting looking for a group or someone to contact that's possibly getting involved
I love it when Mike switches up and goes back to the Medieval periods. We need more of this!!
This reminds me of “The Society for Creative Anachronism” (SCA)
I used to be a member years ago, and it was a lot of fun.
🖖😎
I really enjoy the medieval themed episodes as well as all the other ones. Thanks!
Wow. Never expected a sword review from "the duelist" 😁 cool content 😃
Great stuff Mike.
Your channel is an under appreciated gem!
Thanks so much Mike for doing the sword presentations. Love the history as well as the slashing demonstrations. Beautiful sword.
Mike

The movie was "The Lion in Winter", and it was great. Good video, thanks.
I like the history you give with all your weapons. Keeps it interesting. Thanks Mike

This is super cool, because I am big into medieval arms and armor as well as firearms. Thank you!
The sword design is by far, my favorite of all time. I really do imagine myself with a sword of that design In my own hand.
I’m cool with sword reviews. It’s not what I was expecting but it’s fun!
Sir Mike we thank thee for this gift thou hast bestowed pon us this day
Love that chain mail, Mike. The sword, too!
Love your videos. You're a fountain of good historical information. Thanks for your work.
Mike. I didn’t know that you had such a depth of knowledge in these subjects. Fascinating!
Beautiful sword!! Fantastic information all the way around. I thoroughly enjoyed this!!!
Came for a sword cutting demo leave with a nod about the 'mini ice age'. Cool. More Swords please
Came for the sword review, stayed for the history lesson.
Fun to see how much you enjoy your interests.
So very interesting. Never knew any of this, and really appreciate your presentation. Thank you!

Nice presentation FriarcTuck. What happened to Mike? Do they have a sword deer season in PA now? You need to invite John Cleese on these sword shows.
I learned more about history from this video than I did from all my history classes in college :D
Good video Mike, probably the most prevalent protection for the rank and file was gambeson, worn in layers or under armor, a latter day flack jacket.
Excellent review and bonus history lesson! New subscriber. Buying this sword at the discounted price based off your review. Thank you
Very Good. Thanks for the education of Medieval weaponry!
Great video, lots of great information. Also love the under armor logo visible under the chain mail...I'm going to assume that was intentional!
Very informative ,great info , and entertaining .
Thanks for sharing, as always Mike.
Great vid Mike !
Very interesting Mike now I am thinking I may need a good sword. Watching you always cost me money lol.
Didn't know Brother Tuck had a sword. (:

The name of the film was The Lion in Winter.
What did I say?
@@duelist1954 I can't remember, but it definitely wasn't the correct title.
@@Howard-nx2ip You're correct. I said "Kings in Winter"...I will now leave TH-cam in shame and enter a monastery. Good catch...LOL
@@duelist1954 Don't do that, TH-cam would be a little poorer. But on that subject, when I retire, I hope to go to Nepal and live as a goat! (British humour).
Very nice
Very interesting!
Very neat.
Hahaha, that can on your head in the intro, it's an improvement, dont think it would stop a round ball though! 🤣 just pickin at ya
14:20 ...and below the mail hauberk, UnderArmor! lol
Where do you get a steel T shirt. Awesome video.
it's extremely impressive sword.

Really enjoyed this video 👍! Hope you are getting paid , four commercial breaks! When did rondelle blades come into fashion?
Wade , BigRedneckPoppa they first appear in the 14th century, but the high water mark was in the 15th century.
Good value with the Dynasty Forge blades. I have a feeling their quantity control is better with the European models than the Japanese. Have you read any Bernard Cornwell's books?
Bill McCauley I have read almost everything he has ever written.
Alright, Mike needs to do a collaboration with Skallagrim.
LOL...I doubt that he would be interested in that. The TH-cam sword community seems to pretty effectively ignore my existence.
Love the historical info you share-you're a good story teller Mike. How hot did you get making the video? The clothing & chain mail must be hot!
We were having a rare spell of cooler weather, so it wasn't that bad.
All I can say is, How much stuff do you have?
I currently do World War II reenacting and have been interested for years to get involved in doing medieval reenacting looking for a group or someone to contact that's possibly getting involved

hiya mike oakschott the modern master of all things european sword
how do you know so much about swords. What did you study or read.
Could you review zulu spears next?
I had to add mic I just picked up the Under Armour logo under your chainmail I thought that was pretty cool Under Armour yeah that's all right
A little irony, I guess
Fantastic video!! Where did you find the gloves?
Bought them from a Cowboy vendor many years ago
Would you be willing to sell that sword? I've looked everywhere for one, but no luck so far. Dynasty Forge doesn't have any more.
👍👍😎
👍
Hi Mike, great vid, very informative, but sorry it's din not die nasty.......
At the very end you say "i hope you enjoyed this look at the Albion Sword". Is this an omen, Grand Master?
No, you are right, I would not call that a die-nasty sword ! looks like an arming sword to me.
almost got that helmet. Too bad it didn't fit over my nose
Don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Even if it is a damn big one.
23:30 ummm ?
This is the guy that buys the midevil stuff from love's
>underarmour
DEUS VULT!!!
Climate change? They should have voted for Sleepy Joe, lol. Do you tealize that there Biden ads on here?
At least Mike is getting some $ from the ads. Biden can waste his breath.
