While the other choices are quite reasonable, I can't see how Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made it to the first place. Sonic Triple Trouble is much better in every possible way and even has two playable characters. Thanks for mentioning Tails Adventure though. It really is a masterpiece in its own way.
Sonic Triple Trouble shoudv'e have take the top spot, instead of Sonic 2 (8 bits), it's literally the Sonic 3 of the 8 bits, and the only one of the five platformers that is not on the master system. Sonic 2 is way to difficult, and it punish you by killing Tails if you don't get all chaos emeralds, and am pretty much sure everyone stoped playing after the first boss.
I remember being so proud when i completed Sonic 2. I was never very good at gaming so it was a huge achievement for me. I learnt each level through using a cheat code then after months of practise finally went through from start to finish. Great times!
it's not perfect though, just like nearly every game gear games, sure, it features good elements like knuckles, (keep in mind you can't play as him, he's the villian, similar to sonic 3) but it does have some issues, like frame-rate slowdowns, (yes, it's still a problem in games today as it was before) and it's too easy, (i know there might be casual players who disagree and say "HEY!! an easy game is good!") really, a lot of players perfer normal difficuty games. (probably more pepole then those who like too easy games)

The only game i loved to play on Game Gear was Mortal Kombat. Absolutely loved just jumping in on a mobile platform and start beating up Sub Zero or Scorpion.
My favourite ever was no doubt Shining Force: Sword of Hajya. It was the first strategic RPG I had ever played on a handheld and managed to deliver the original SF experience despite the less powerful system it was running on.
I definitely agree with the Number 1 - It's the best ever sonic game I played in 2D. It's not an easy one and thus really fun to replay. Spiderman Return of the Sinister Six could be on this list too as well as Jurassic Park.

Sonic 2 for GG is worse than Chaos, Blast, and Triple Trouble. The first boss screen shrink alone makes it that way due to taking an easy 1/10 boss fight and making it a near 10/10 boss fight.
The Game Gear kicks ass. I am a fan of Nintendo but I thought Game Boy is overrated because of the green graphics. Super Mario Land series is good but that's about it for exclusives.
I miss Dragon Crystal, Crystal Warriors, Columns (these are on Virtual Console now), Psychic World, Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusions, and Prince of Persia. I know there are more GG games that I forgot, but these are the ones I wish were on virtual console.
The Game gear was first portable anything I saw with a color screen and my friend got one. It blew my mind that you could play it in poor lighting, I had the original game boy and lighting was always an issue.
Sonic 2 for Gamegear sucked! That first boss battle was pretty much impossible. No rings, walking up a steep hill with the "boss" at the bottom and Robotnik throwing bombs with random travel paths? Walk too fast, you run into Robotnik and die. Stop running to avoid a bomb, you quickly slide down to the boss and can't get your momentum back fast enough to avoid it. And bombs in unpredicable patterns constantly hitting you. I preferred Sonic 1 for it's awesome music (Bridge Zone ftw), but my favorite was Sonic Chaos, with it's rocket boots, ability to control Tails and fly, and it's cool levels.
because you are not good at it i liked it better than the first i know its hard because you have to get the chaos emerald to get the real ending and but i do agree with 0 rings of the 3rd act is bullshit should be for the last boss lol
1989 was born and the game came out 1994 so yes i was alive and don't see anything wrong with my grammar and know the difference between than and then haha don't fool your own intelligence grammar nazi lol
One game that I thought was surprisingly good on Game Gear was Fatal Fury Special. The controls were similar to Street Fighter II and they actually worked quite well! Great handheld fighting game.
OMG! I just realized that I completely forgot to suggest Sylvan Tale on the list when I made it! *Infinite facepalms* That's one of the best Japan-exclusive retro games ever!
There's a lot of Game Gear games that I love, some are mostly ports of the Master System : Castle and Land of Illusion, Sonic 1 and 2, Super Monaco GP, VR Troopers, Aladin, Columns... Not a single game that I hated on this console. Strangely not seeing Alex Kidd in Miracle World on Game Gear is pretty weird
One surprisingly good game I had was Power Rangers. It was a fighting game with for the time and system, very smooth fun combat. Well worth picking up for collectors or those enjoying retro fighters.
BrokamaGay I agree with ya. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was an absolute shit game which made it near impossible to make it pass the first boss without save states. Triple Trouble was much better designed imo, making it a great game to play. That should have replaced Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by far.
it is good, however, there are other game gear sonic games that beat it, like tails adventure, or sonic chaos, oh, and before someone lawsuits in replies, I know this is not everyone's opinion and some might have different opinions.
The game gear was an underrated portable unit. While it didn't have as many games as Gameboy, was bulkier, and had horrible battery life, it really was an amazing handheld console. Also the X-men games and Sonic were good, but for some reason I remember one of my favs as a kid being the Batman game. I played that game for hours, looking back, I'm not sure how good it actually was, but 10 year old me loved it.
+YamiGekusu Wario Land is considered to be the best (or even only noteworthy) Virtual Boy game by many. Personally, I have never even seen one of those things in real life so I have no opinion on the matter.
GG Shinobi and Sonic 2 OST are so good. Sonic 2 intro was a bit dark with the underground theme but i liked it, hard (first boss battle) but cool game! ^^ GG Shinobi, need more remix of this OST!
This is a weak and poorly researched list. Sonic Triple Trouble was an actual exclusive and much better than Sonic 2’s port. Shinobi II was also the better game and an exclusive not a port. Tails Adventure, Sylan Tale, shining Force, Defenders of Oasis, Legend of Illusion are all better than most of these and were actually made for the Game Gear.
Why does Sonic 2 always get the top spot on these list. Sonic 2 on Game Gear is awful, and that's coming from one of the biggest Sonic fans you will ever meet.
+Jaeger Newman I agree whole heartedly. I did like Sonic 1 on the GG, though. What I'm sick of is Jurassic Park never getting put on any of the top 10 lists. Easily my favorite game on the system.
+Jaeger Newman I think it's a good game, but it feels off-brand, kind of like a knockoff Sonic clone (or a beta version - I assume it was rushed to release). I think partly it's because it doesn't have the bright colour palette of the other games, and partly it's because starting a Sonic game with a minecart section is just an awful, horrible idea.
Main issue with the Game Gear (aside from Battery Life) is the failure rate of the systems as the capacitors fail quite easily. I replaced all the capacitors in mine and then shortly after the screen back-light failed, probably going to need to do an LED screen mod or a video out mod to continue using it..
Sonic 2 was a TERRIBLE game, they did so many bad level design decisions making the whole game unfair... it's not even due to the small screen (although that increases the unfair difficulty) but the "leaps of faith" was an integral part of the level design, which, to be honest is really bad. Aside from the loop gimmicks introduced, Sonic 1 was a much better game, it was slower paced and better adapted to the format. An Sonic actually felt good to control.
I remember my favorite game being the power rangers the movie game. It was a fighting game but was surprisingly good for a handheld. Extremely fast paced and colorful. The good old times....
I think I had this in like '93 or so? It was seriously great for it's day and age! My favorite games were a Star Wars game they had, and an OffRoad 4x4 Racing game, I forget the name...
While the other choices are quite reasonable, I can't see how Sonic the Hedgehog 2 made it to the first place. Sonic Triple Trouble is much better in every possible way and even has two playable characters. Thanks for mentioning Tails Adventure though. It really is a masterpiece in its own way.

Video game fanatic 5471 I had it.
I loved Sonic The hedgehog 2(8bit) on the Sega Master System
Sonic 2 gg was awful. Land of illusion was the best
I just got one like last year, and this video came out!!! Thank you!!
Michael Jackson Moonwalker should be on this list
I think I had this in like '93 or so? It was seriously great for it's day and age! My favorite games were a Star Wars game they had, and an OffRoad 4x4 Racing game, I forget the name...
Ivan "Iron Man" Stewarts Off Road racing.
Streets of rage, the mickey mouse game, batman, mortal kombat were the best!
Sonic Triple Trouble?
Excellent video!
7:42 hey that looks like one of the miracle ball containers from Alex Kidd the Lost Stars
Man these games look beautiful with screen capture, but back in the day looking at a game gear screen was painful.
Yo! You totally forgot THE HULK! That game ruled the GameGear!
Woaj, I didn't know there was a Mega Man game on the Game Gear. It's interesting seeing the 8-bit Mega Man graphics enhanced like that.
