Citizen was a good read, and that was a good description of the book. Besides the subject matter the part poetry, part essay and photos/art made for a dynamic read. Also, loved the suggestions.
Thank you for this video and for the suggestions, some of which I have read and reviewed on Goodreads. "The Blacker the Berry," and "A Christmas Carol," I have reviewed on Goodreads. I watched the movie "Our Souls at Night." HBO had a series that never made to it air "Lewis and Clark" starring Casey Affleck and Mattis Schoenarts in the leads. The York books would be great tie-ins. Great list featuring Jamaica Kincaid and others.
I own three out of the books you mentioned. Ayiti, Citizen,, and A Small Place. I will read per your recommendation. Every year i listen to A Christmas Carol via the Old Time Radio and love the story, but I do not own a physical copy. I will have to fix that, preferably in a leather bound edition. Thank you for that breakdown on Baldwin's Giovanni's Room, that peaked my interest.
@@browngirlreading I just finished, "The Secret Lives of Church Women." Soo good! I am not a huge fan of short story collections, but I blew through this one in less than two days. I especially loved the story, "How to Make Love to a Physicist." That shortie was a better love story than most romance novels I have read. Thanks again for the awesome recommendation, Didi. Please keep them coming.
The Secret Lives of Church Ladies was during the pandemic. I loved them so much. Her and Kiese Laymon do a podcast together. And Deesha and Dawnie Walton of Opal& Nev all do podcast Reckon True Stories on Ursa Story Company
I loved the Buddha in the Attic...the way she wrote it was so impactful.
Agreed

I read The Secret Lives of Church Ladies during the pandemic and it was so good. I always recommend that book to people. The audiobook is also great.
I love short stories. I really loved Atlanta Noir short stories.
I don't always gravitate towards them but in the Noir series I did enjoy Accra noir a lot.
I love Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun
Yes It's definitely one of my faves.
