Thank you so much!!! I have to push past a LOT OF FEAR when I post these because there’s so many people that are really really great at book reviews that I love and respect so much. So I want to do this in a way that is natural to me but I just get so nervous 😅
I absolutely adore listening to you talk about books. It’s so thorough and well thought out and concise without feeling remotely spoilery. I sincerely can’t wait for these videos every month.
There’s nothing I love more than listening to people talk about books they’ve read, whether they’ve enjoyed them or not. People have already commented this, but your reviews are just perfect. They’re well organized/thought out, without spoilers. I’ve read quite a few of these books and it doesn’t matter if I’ve agreed or disagreed, what I loved is that you had thoughts and opinions that helped me see it from a different perspective. You have such a gift for this. ❤
Elyse, this book review series is feeding my soul. I read all of these kinds of books too. But I’ve always been a little embarrassed to admit it because I’m the only one I know who reads this stuff. The fact that you show to the whole internet that you love these books heals me in a way I didn’t know I needed. Thank you! 🥰
Oh my goodness thanks to your recommendation I listened to And Then There Was One and even my 11 old son was interested. Long after the book was finished we kept talking about the book analyzing every aspect of it. He became so excited that he asked to listen to more books with me. It was a bit odd given the content but he was so entertained he said “this villain was better than even Darth Vader” I thought it was a compliment since he’s obsessed with Star Wars. I’m just happy he’s excited to spend time with me listening to a book and analyzing it. Thanks
I am 4 books deep in the Elyse Myers Book Club. Your descriptions are spot on. I hadn’t given romance type novels much of a try, but I am hooked:) Please keep giving reviews!
Same! You have gotten this adhd’er into reading ….something I have wanted but had lost hope! For me to stay on task I need a really good one, (your reviews are spot on!) and an audio and book together….at 1.25 speed. 😂
I love how thoroughly you describe a book without spoiling the actual plot. It's everything I need to hear to know if I want to read it or not! Keep making these, I love them
Elyse please keep making these book reviews!! I was a big reader back in elementary/ jr high/ high school, then dropped out of reading while in college and post college. Your reviews made me pick up a book (for enjoyment) for the first time in practically 10 years & I'm obsessed. Inspired to keep reading now!!!
this is the first video I have ever watched of you and may I just say I trust your opinion on books with my life, thank you so so much, I am adding all of your recs to my TBR!! I am also obsessed with your personality you speak at such a beautiful pace and in a way that is so entertaining but also informative, definitely going to binge all your videos now lol
Please keep these book reviews coming! Being totally honest, I get so bored with so many people’s book review videos, but yours keep me so interested the entire time! ❤
I’m giving this review a go, which is a huge step because I never relate to anyone’s opinions and perceptions, so book reviews are pointless to me. But I’m intrigued here
I'm so beyond excited that you started book reviews. I've always loved your content and it just makes me even happier that you're actively in the book community now!
I love your reviews. I have read few of these and it was like geeking out with you. Love it. Also, that disassociating break time was so relatable!! That is my work flow.
I'm just amazed you remember all these details for every single book you read in a month (which is A LOT). I can barely finish a single book in a year, and I would not be able to talk about it a month later.
try audiobooks I finally submitted to them and I’m finishing like 4 books a month doing chores and driving to get coffee, occasionally while pretending to watch children’s television too 😂
@@meganhund2962 I submitted to them this year too! Unfortunately I still seem to zone out with them depending on how anxious/stressed I am but I do enjoy having the option of both. I’m getting through at least one book a month now which is awesome for me! Love the bit about children’s shows…how many episodes of Thomas I watched when my son was young 😂
You might like Elinor Oliphant is completely fine. It has a mystery but it’s just not scary at all because it’s a woman trying to figure out repressed meme prices from 20 years ago. It’s a good picture of mental illness and friendship, it’s not really my genre but I was hooked
Elyse, I'm a 60-year old recently diagnosed ADHD/Autistic female. I love you! I discovered your TikTok account some time ago but didn't know you had a TH-cam channel. I personally prefer TH-cam over TikTok so thank you for taking the effort. Also, thank you for the book recommendations. I concur with other comments regarding how you express different aspects of the book without spoilers. I've returned to university recently to finish (essentially restart) my Masters degree. So having a list of non-school books to turn to in order to rest my brain is wonderful! And, to have recommendations from a young woman, such as yourself (who reminds me of the 'me' when I was in my 20s back in the '80s) is a plus. I wish I would have known that I was neurodivergent back then. Would have saved me some grief...but knowing now that I'm not broken but different has given me a new lease on life. Listening and watching you is so helpful for me, especially when I'm having one of those days where I feel a bit overwhelmed. You help me regroup and I appreciate that so very much. Take care 🥰
This is the PERFECT way to describe her stories! Thank you for telling me this! I’m learning all the different sub-genres and the more I learn, the easier it is to find the stories I’m looking to read!
Agatha Christie is amazing. I'm not sure I'd put her in the cozy mystery genre. Rather, many cozy mystery authors try to emulate her (and not always very well). That said, my suggestion for Elyse is is Murder on the Orient Express or Ordeal by Innocence, only because they are among her most well known. But you really can't go wrong with whatever you choose. All of her books are excellent.
I love these reviews!! Please keep doing them, I’ve just started a new note of books to try from your reviews. I get stumped at looking for new authors and feel like this is perfect for finding more - I am not a spicy book reader so appreciate your rating system so much!
i am genuinely in love with your book reviews. your rating scale makes so much sense to my brain and really lets me have an idea of what the book is like. you are slowly becoming one of my favourite creators when it comes to books and i can’t wait to hear more of your views 🥰🫶🏻
I am so happy for your longer form content! Whether it's random days, lofe updates, running errands, or reviewing books, I love it all. Feels like hanging out with a good friend, every time. I love it so much!
Elyse, you have this amazing way of articulating the thoughts I have on the books here that I have read that is just amazing. It’s like we’re friends and you know what I’m going to say before I say it but in a far better way than I ever could. Because of that I will always watch these book videos, they are so thorough and cute and you, I love them! Thank you for sharing your time and your thoughts in this way. You’ll always be my favorite relatable queen!
I USED TO WASH AND IRON ALL OF MY PAPER MONEY AS A KID AND TEENAGER! 😆 My then boyfriend, now husband of 15 years, actually bought me a fancy ironing board for my 17th birthday, because he saw and appreciated my weird. I feel so SEEN right now! ❤️❤️❤️
Hello, I have gotten so far away from TikTok because my attention span was shortening like you wouldn’t believe but I have missed content from you! And I’m so so so happy I found you here, and I’m especially so happy I’m watching a book video! I really appreciate you loving and then dnfing from the same author, or loving and then vaguely liking from the same author. I love the honesty, because sometimes I feel this way but so many people go for the “auto-buy” author thing. This is a good reminder that every story if very different
I’m 72 and an avid reader ever since I discovered (in middle school) the Robert Heinlein Sci-Fi book “Have Spacesuit, Will Travel”. Really, really enjoy your book reviews and your choices. I thought I was the only other person in the world afraid to get out of bed to pee when books have scared me. You make me feel happy and smile a lot. Keep doing what you’re doing, please.
I love that you only took a half of a point off instead of a full point for The Do Over, because you understood that it is personal preference, rather than a flaw. That's the sign of a really good, and professional critic. You are the ONLY Booktuber I have seen do this. There is one in particular I watch, you acts like her word is the only word that matters, and if you like a book she doesn't, then it's a poor reflection on you.
When you started this series, I instantly thought of The Kiss Quotient! I have read it a bunch of times, and it helped me understand my own neurodivergence. So glad you're on that train.
this was so fun and simple in the best way! I love your little info cards for each book and like others have said, you gave great vibes of the books without spoiling the content of it!
Your book reviews are awesome Elyse. The way your brilliant brain works in describing, categorising, rating and notating them is so so good ! I’m murder mystery and thriller fan (less spice) so I will go read based on your recommendation 💛
I really appreciate this rating system! I've been trying to find new books and it's hard to explain to people what I am looking for in a book, and you've given me some good ideas on how I can communicate that.
Absolutely love your book reviews, Elyse! I usually can’t make it through TH-cam book review videos but yours are so engaging. I highly recommend Ali Hazelwood’s second book, Love on the Brain, it’s one of her earlier ones but it’s so much fun and the romance is adorable. Also, if you’re looking for mystery novels in the same vein as Agatha Christie with just a dash of romance, Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock series is so underrated! It’s got great characters, some neurodivergent coding, and is hysterical an amazing genderbent version of Sherlock Holmes.
That’s my goal!! I struggle with other people’s reviews because they feel really subjective most of the time so I wanted to try and find a standard baseline for me to rate the books on so it stays consistent! This is such a kind comment!
Murder of Roger Akroyd and Murder in the Orient Express, a great Agatha Christie reads! Also PBS did a whole 12 season series on Poirot and they do a great job of staying true to the books and it’s fun to watch the corresponding episode after reading the book.
YESSS A LONG VIDEO WITH ELYSE!!! I love your book reviews & finding new books to add to my TBR! Pls keep making content, you are soo good at what you do! 🤍🤍🤍
I am absolutely living for your books reviews! I love your rating scales. I'm an avid reader, but I've never annotated a book.....now I kind of want to try it. Thanks for sharing!
I am getting re-dedicated to reading this year and so appreciate watching your reviews! They are helping me to branch out into different genres! I just finished The Hanging City and HIGHLY recommend for you to read it!!
Watching your reviews with my Libby TBR list on another tab, and adding them as I hear your reviews. Please never stop these book reviews! Youre so good at these!
i think this might be my favorite book review video i’ve watched. it was so much more entertaining then most reviews i’ve watched and the way you explained and described the books just made so much sense to me. i could tell which books you truly loved and why and actually remembered all of your reviews by the end. and the rating scales make so much sense. love love love this video and i can’t wait to read some of your faves!!
Been an Elyse fan for a while, but as a bookseller and a fellow bookworm, my love for you has leveled up yet again! You are an incredible book reviewer. 💜
If you’ve never read The Rosie Project, I highly recommend it for you. It’s about a genetics professor who wants to find the perfect wife. It is not stated that he is on the spectrum, but it definitely comes off as if he is, or maybe he is just socially awkward. It’s a lot cuter than I am making it sound. There are three books in the series, but the first is the best.
Yeah. I loved the first book. The second was ok. But by the 3rd i was thinking if there is ever a 4th one id give it a miss. I felt after the first one the series tanked
I hope you do more book reviews. I absolutely love your rating scales. You're so thorough with your reviews, I am going to need more recommendations. Please and thank you!
Wow that excerpt from love theoretically was super powerful. Also it gave me anxiety to work out how to make myself work around jack and it was only a sentence 😭
I think we have similar tastes in thrillers! I really loved “The Last Time I Lied”, it started my thriller journey. Holly Black and Karen McManus have become some of my favorite authors. I think you’ll enjoy their books based off your recommendations. Your explanations of why you liked or disliked a book were so spot on for my brain, I can’t wait for your next review video!
Thanks for the reviews of the books. So glad you discovered and loved Agatha Christie. She's a classic! I highly recommend the Hercule Poirot books. My faves are The Mysterious Affair at Styles, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Peril at End House, Murder on the Orient Express, The ABC Murders, Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun. But honestly, you can't go wrong with any of her books.
Thanks for the recs, it’s so helpful to have a starting point when an author has an overwhelming oevre (I had to look up that word- the question I got when I put in my jumbled mess was what do you call an author’s filmography or discography, and then someone complaining that bibliography was stupid because “a bibliography is ALSO the name for a part of a book and …authors don’t write biblios” 😂). How many “ghosts” would you rate Christie’s books? Are they daytime only reads for a wimp?
I adore Agatha Christie!! Two of my favorites (and probably 2 of her most popular/considered her best) are The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder on the Orient Express. Excited to hear your thoughts as you delve further into the Queen of Crime Fiction 😊 Also love your spice scale- I’m a fan of romance/rom-coms but I hate when it’s largely sex scenes with little to no character development/plot. If I wanted erotica I’d pick up erotica 🤦♀️.
I love these reviews so much! I have the type of adhd where I cannot read a book to save my life so there's about a 1% chance I would read any of the books you mention, but I still love your videos and find these reviews very interesting. I did start trying audiobooks recently though, so perhaps I will try out one of your favorites as an audiobook if it's available! I hope you're doing well recently and trying your best to be patient with yourself. 🙌
Every once in a while, my autism overpowers my ADHD and this is what you’re seeing happening here. So I fully understand the struggle! For some reason my brain has really latched onto reading in this current season of my life. But this comes and goes! 😂
@@elyse_myers That's so cool though!! I am glad you are able to find something that brings you joy, even if it doesn't last forever, and clearly it brings a lot of other people joy too based on the other comments. I just love watching/listening to people talk about the things that they are passionate about. Side note, thank you for being so real in your videos. I rarely ever comment since I feel like I don't have anything worthy/meaningful to add, but I have a deep appreciation for your videos and how honest you are with everything. It's so cool to watch a TH-camr like yourself and actually feel like I can relate to the things you talk about, it makes me feel like I just want to be your friend
I have had the same ADHD problem and also consumed pretty much only audiobooks for awhile. I find that reading on a kindle is helpful because the “tap to turn page” action keeps me more engaged. I make the font pretty big so I can read without my glasses on, so I’m tapping more often than I would turn the page of a physical book.
@@jackiewackie62 omg that is actually such a good idea. Making the words bigger and getting to turn the pages more often seems so simple but I feel like it would make a huge difference. I am definitely going to try this out, so thank you for sharing what helps you!
A friend told me listening on 2x speed also helped her override her adhd to find listening more enjoyable. I can rarely listen on that speed and am more of 1.25 gal
I love listening to you talking about books! ❤️ It gets me excited to keep reading for fun too 🥰 Some book recommendations I think you might like: 1. Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater (some autism rep in the FL, cozy fantasy) 2. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren (super cozy romance) 3. Piranesi (mystery, magical realism, somewhat eerie) 4. Anxious People by Frederick Backman (mystery, FUNNY, heartfelt, beautiful writing)
Watching your reviews was so fun! I love your ratings and listening to you talk about books. I had a podcast called The Library Laura Podcast where I did author interviews and reading recaps and listening to this made me miss hosting it so much!
Penny Reid’s “Knitting in the City” series has some delightful neurodivergent characters and representation. I know you get a lot of recommendations, but I had to throw it out there.❤ I love your videos, I feel seen and like I’ve been hanging out with a friend without having to drain my social battery. Thanks for all you do. ❤
I feel that your constant growing connection with yourself translates to your audience so well, that it just makes you the most perfect resource for authentic information. Book reviews is a great place for you to showcase this, as it ties in with something that you genuinely love and it really shines through. Your reviews are extremely thoughtful and also .. hilarious. I have been an avid reader for over 40 years. Books have taught me so many things it would be impossible to name them all, most importantly, I think I learned who I was and wanted to be, via books. Also, I know you feel nervous at times about your reviews, I think u can spin that into happy adrenaline because you are slaying it out here :) xx After some thought, I will come back and give you a couple of juicy recommends.. I just need to really think on it :)
I just wanted to be weird and say thank you for these amazing reviews. You are so articulate and your descriptions are chefs kiss. A lot of these books I have not read yet but felt like I couldn’t because nobody was chatting about them anymore. Now that you are chatting about them, I feel like I can finally read some books that I’ve wanted to but held back from. You feel like a close bookish friend and since I don’t actually have a bookish friend that means a lot. The Kiss Quotient is such a good book!!
I am absolutely dying to know what July brings! I cannot wait to see the next review video. I haven't read fiction books since before having a kid and I have read two of your favorites so quickly I am in love! Apparently we appreciate similar books and I am so here for it I watch these clinging to every review. I am finally turning to reading instead of couch rotting to shows I've watched a million times and I am so thankful!!
I read yours truly after you recommended it and gave it 6 stars Thankyou so much for that!!! My top reads of this year are the good girls guide to murder series and the summer I turned pretty series. Also dived into the thrillers and recommend the house across the lake from Riley sager!
Honestly, I think you’d really like ‘A Good Girls Guide to Murder’. It’s a YA mystery trilogy that really grabbed my attention, especially with how it was written. The first book in the series is my favorite and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Just to get you started, the first book is about a girl named Pippa who looks into a local murder-suicide case for her senior year project. She conducts interviews and puts clues together to figure out if the guy who everybody believes is guilty is actually innocent. I also really love Pippa’s character development throughout the three books and it’s really interesting to look back and see how much she’s changed because of the cases she solves. It’s a super good read if you ever want to check it out!🤩
It did!!! Worked so well! Put their on on level 2 or 3 and pressed each page for a couple seconds! Was done in 15 minutes and the book was at least 50% thinner and closer to its original shape!
@elyse_myers I’m late to your full length book reviews and I’ll regret that forever! 😂 I Just bought Better Than the Movies before even finishing this video! I can’t wait to start it! My real purpose for commenting though…please check out Lisa Jewel as an author for psychological thrillers! I don’t like super scary things and I love her books! Some definitely have flashbacks, which I don’t mind at all. I think it kinda helps in the psychological thrillers. 🤷🏼♀️ The only book I’ll specifically reference of hers is to say DON’T start with The Family Upstairs. It is probably 3.5 👻 for me. It is SO good, but so creepy!! She definitely has others that aren’t as 👻-y, especially her earlier books! I hope you check out her books! I am definitely going to check out Sarah Pinborough too! Happy reading! 📚❤
Hahahaha no not at all, it’s just that I’ve learned to do like 2 more minutes of googling when it comes to looking the books up so I know what I’m getting into 😂😂😂 but if I see a book suggested enough, my curiosity gets the best of me and I have to go for it! I’ve seen so many people suggest the Rosie Project! Adding this to my list!!
Your review and rating scales are awesome. The way you describe some of the book I’ve already read like Verity is so spot on. And your prior recommendation of Better than the movies may be my favorite book this year. Consider me a member of the Elyse Book Club. On that note if you haven’t yet read The Rom-commers I think you should, it feels right in line with current list.
I would just like to say that your structure and system for ranking these books is IMMENSELY helpful and I LOVE how you describe without spoiling. Thank you thank you thank you!
Okay, but have you heard of Brando Sando?? If you have an interest in trying out an epic fantasy series, I would highly recommend his Mistborn Trilogy! He created such a unique magic system and he really writes for the masses imo 🙃 He is really good at exploring the mental health of his characters as well. PS. His name is actually Brandon Sanderson, but obviously Brando Sando is a fantastic nickname and I can’t not use it when I talk about him 😅
@@elyse_myers YAYY!! If you want a single book instead of a series, he has stand alone fantasy novels like ‘Tress of the Emerald Sea’ and ‘Yumi and the Nightmare Painter’ that are ✨chefs kiss✨
It is a really good series! It’s a little frustrating if you’re a binge reader because he recaps a lot between books and I juiuuuuust finished reading it
Start with Warbreaker actually, that’s a standalone book and you can decide if you want to commit to one of his series from there!!!! (You probably will because Warbreaker is amazing!!!)
It is such fun to watch your reviews. I've paused and added to my library holds multiple times during these videos. I am grateful for your spice scale, because I'm a 1.5 to 2, ha ha. One amazing "enemies to lovers" classic is North And South" by Elizabeth Gaskell. A fun series I've enjoyed recently is Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev. Each book is a loose refresh of a Jane Austen novel, centered on an Indian family and their intertwined lives. ETA nevermind, these ended up getting spicier than anticipated...
I had surgery and was down and out for a solid week where I couldn’t do anything but lay in bed and read. It was the kind of bored where even your favorite TV shows got old. I was reading like 2 books a day at one point because I couldn’t even sleep anymore because I was laying in bed so much 😂
@@kierstynsaoirsedoing good now!! It was just something on my shoulder we needed to take care of before it got worse but it was in a weird place where I had to hide in the room since I couldn’t pick up my kiddos. Lent itself to a lot of good books! 😅😂
This is the first of your videos I've ever watched. By the time you got to the King of series I subscribed to your channel. Love your honest reviews and your humor. Kudos to you!
YES it did!! I put it super low and at first I thought I would need to put a towel or something over it but then when I put the iron low enough I could just iron the pages straight on! Took about 15 minutes but it worked really well!
This video popped up on my home page, and I'm so happy it did. I've been in a reading slump, and this video was so comforting and fun to watch that I decided to pick up a book to read. Can't wait for future reviews!
Totally felt the same about The Kiss Quotient!! I felt so seen and represented. And I loved Love, Theoretically too! And Funny Story! Your book reviews are LIFE-GIVING! I can hardly remember what happened after I finish a book, especially if I read multiple books since then!
One of the things I think it wild about Agatha Christy books is that when there is an overdone trope or element, she was often really early on or the first to do it. (Absolutely doesn’t mean you can’t take points off but it’s like if you read lord of the rings and then realize how much stuff it has inspired). Also I love these reviews so much❤
I love this! i've been watching a lot of videos like this for book recommendations I lack interest while watching because it's hard to connect with the person either through their editing style or the way the talk about the books. But i love the way you break it down and are authentic. So keep these coming!!

You might like Elinor Oliphant is completely fine. It has a mystery but it’s just not scary at all because it’s a woman trying to figure out repressed meme prices from 20 years ago. It’s a good picture of mental illness and friendship, it’s not really my genre but I was hooked
I just read this book and LOVED it! It got me back into reading, actually. Highly recommend @elyse
Oooh, I loved this one too!
Just posted a comment about this one too!
Yes!! I thought she was more good autistic woman rep
Loved this book!!!
Take care 🥰
Agatha Christie books are in a genre called cozy mysteries. There are so many, I hope you find and enjoy more of them!
This is the PERFECT way to describe her stories! Thank you for telling me this! I’m learning all the different sub-genres and the more I learn, the easier it is to find the stories I’m looking to read!
Oh my goodness. There are so many wonderful cozy mysteries. So excited for you to read more, @elyse_myers!!
Oooo, Agatha Christie!! Definitely check out Murder on the Orient Express and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd!! Two of my favs!!
If you like cozy mysteries, I definitely recommend the Glass and Steele series by CJ Archer.
I'm now obsessed with your book reviews. Please never stop doing this.
Thank you for another outstanding book review! Honestly regardless of the content you upload, I find myself having a positive experience. Thank you.
This is so kind, thank you so much!
I love these reviews!! Please keep doing them, I’ve just started a new note of books to try from your reviews. I get stumped at looking for new authors and feel like this is perfect for finding more - I am not a spicy book reader so appreciate your rating system so much!
Your description of Verity was perfect! Loved/hated this book so much, and the ENDING 😳🤯!
I’m loving your book reviews, thanks!
Agreed! Loved her review
i am genuinely in love with your book reviews. your rating scale makes so much sense to my brain and really lets me have an idea of what the book is like. you are slowly becoming one of my favourite creators when it comes to books and i can’t wait to hear more of your views 🥰🫶🏻
Also, you should read The Maid by Nita Prose (and the sequel The Mystery Guest) the main character is so endearing.
Omg; that was so sweet and thoughtful of your husband! 🥹❤️
To be appreciated for your “weird”….more valuable than gold😊
OKAY I HAVE LITERALLY NEVER MET ANYONE ELSE THAT DID THIS. I feel so seen 😭😭😭
This is my favorite story from this whole romance story video! ☺
@@elyse_myers Yes!!! You are not alone! And now I know I’m not, either! 💜
Love the Heinlein juvenelia!!! Time for the Stars, The Family Stone, The Star Beast,
I love that you only took a half of a point off instead of a full point for The Do Over, because you understood that it is personal preference, rather than a flaw.
The way you review so deeply and not spoil anything is such an art. The best book review video I’ve ever watched. Absolute perfection
I don't usually watch book reviews but having those scales makes this so easy to followed and I loved this
That’s my goal!!
The murder of roger ackroyd was my first Agatha Christie and I was SHOOK by the ending haha
I would also recommend this one as well as Murder on the Orient Express!
YES THIS ONE!!
Most definitely this one! I am using Murder of Roger Ackroyd to introduce my high school British Literature class to Agatha Christie.
Dick Francis is another great author, you never see the way out of the puzzle until the end. Set in England (not historical)
"And then there were none" was my first- blew my tiny 13 year old mind and I never looked back hehe
No because same got 3 new recs so far
Doing the same thing!
I love that you seem to be the only person who loves books and also is so comfortable with them looking loved (as they should) ♡
i think this might be my favorite book review video i’ve watched. it was so much more entertaining then most reviews i’ve watched and the way you explained and described the books just made so much sense to me. i could tell which books you truly loved and why and actually remembered all of your reviews by the end. and the rating scales make so much sense. love love love this video and i can’t wait to read some of your faves!!
LOVED the first as an audiobook!!!!
I also loved this book! It was so charming and I loved the characters
I came here to recommend this book too! Agree that the series goes downhill but the first one could easily be a standalone anyway.
Second this!
RIGHT?!?!?
I am obsessed with your rating scale, please don’t stop this! ❤️
You should crochet book covers so you can put them on the books that are too scary or not your favorite! lol
“Page 12: I find that people like me better if they don’t have to expend emotional energy on me 👀 👀”
12 pages in and the book is already reading the depths of my soul 😂
Totally agree!!
I adore Agatha Christie!! Two of my favorites (and probably 2 of her most popular/considered her best) are The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and Murder on the Orient Express. Excited to hear your thoughts as you delve further into the Queen of Crime Fiction 😊
Also love your spice scale- I’m a fan of romance/rom-coms but I hate when it’s largely sex scenes with little to no character development/plot. If I wanted erotica I’d pick up erotica 🤦♀️.
Absolutely ADORE your book reviews! Thank you for taking all the time to rate, review and film it all!
Highly recommend A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! Getting that King of Wrath series asap!! Great review Elyse :D
I love listening to you talking about books! ❤️ It gets me excited to keep reading for fun too 🥰 Some book recommendations I think you might like:
1. Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater (some autism rep in the FL, cozy fantasy)
2. Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren (super cozy romance)
3. Piranesi (mystery, magical realism, somewhat eerie)
I’m CACKLING watching you get paranoid bc you’re talking about scary books bc that is absolutely SO RELATABLE
Haven't got past the new ghost scale and I've already liked this upload. Fantastic.
This makes me so happy 😂

I love watching you review books I will never read ! It's like I get a mini story without having to concentrate on reading !
well this comment reached me and I just added the first book to my 2024 tbr list on goodreads
I just need to really think on it :)
this is my first time watching this genre of youtube video and i loved every second of it - thank you for your honest reviews!
This makes me so happy, thank you for being here!
I listen to these on my commute and it’s hard to add books to my TBR list while driving. Glad to join good reads and find you there!
The Kiss Quotient is such a good book!!
omg i just finished watching your other book video and now reading behind her eyes! yay for another book video & recos
OMG I HOPE YOU LOVE ‘BEHIND HER EYES’ SO MUCH!!!!!!!!
I don't think I have ever had anyone review books exactly the way I do in my brain. Your reviews bring me so much joy
0:15 signs were all there 😂😂
I am absolutely dying to know what July brings!
I’ve heard really good things about the good girls guide to murder series!!! I’m adding it to my “to read” list right now because of this comment!
Hope you enjoy it also a tv series now!
I don’t want to read another book again unless you’ve reviewed it and rated it! This is seriously amazing. Thank you!!!
I love your book reviews!!! ❤
Thank you so much!!!
@@elyse_myers Ofc!!
It’s a super good read if you ever want to check it out!🤩
I need an update on the book ironing incident, did it work?! 😂
It did!!! Worked so well! Put their on on level 2 or 3 and pressed each page for a couple seconds! Was done in 15 minutes and the book was at least 50% thinner and closer to its original shape!
@@elyse_myers this is the best news!! Thanks for the update :)) My anxiety levels have been reduced lol
I don't even read books that often and I still love listening to your book reviews! So honest! Hilarious and entertaining!
@25:40 I mean, there are MANY reasons we should be checking on Colleen Hoover... I don't think girl is ok...
These book reviews are actually everything. Pulling good reads up as I watch so I can take note!!
After your Verity recommendation you may be nervous to read a book recommendation 😂 But The Rosie Project is a must read.
"I dropped my book in the bath 🙃" 0:01
I would just like to say that your structure and system for ranking these books is IMMENSELY helpful and I LOVE how you describe without spoiling. Thank you thank you thank you!
Okay, but have you heard of Brando Sando?? If you have an interest in trying out an epic fantasy series, I would highly recommend his Mistborn Trilogy! He created such a unique magic system and he really writes for the masses imo 🙃 He is really good at exploring the mental health of his characters as well.
PS. His name is actually Brandon Sanderson, but obviously Brando Sando is a fantastic nickname and I can’t not use it when I talk about him 😅
Looking this author up ASAP!!!!!
@@elyse_myers YAYY!! If you want a single book instead of a series, he has stand alone fantasy novels like ‘Tress of the Emerald Sea’ and ‘Yumi and the Nightmare Painter’ that are ✨chefs kiss✨
It is a really good series! It’s a little frustrating if you’re a binge reader because he recaps a lot between books and I juiuuuuust finished reading it
@@EmilyAnn634571I hate that! The Koli series by M Carey was such a terrible case of that too, it killllled the series for me
Start with Warbreaker actually, that’s a standalone book and you can decide if you want to commit to one of his series from there!!!!
HOW DO YOU READ SO FAST
I had surgery and was down and out for a solid week where I couldn’t do anything but lay in bed and read. It was the kind of bored where even your favorite TV shows got old. I was reading like 2 books a day at one point because I couldn’t even sleep anymore because I was laying in bed so much 😂
@@elyse_myers dang you still must have a very good attention span. i hope you are feeling better now!! 🩷

I have never seen someone iron a book did it work? 😅
YES it did!! I put it super low and at first I thought I would need to put a towel or something over it but then when I put the iron low enough I could just iron the pages straight on! Took about 15 minutes but it worked really well!
Good to know!
I love these book reviews so much! The amount of books added to my TBR every month is getting out of control though ❤😂
This video popped up on my home page, and I'm so happy it did. I've been in a reading slump, and this video was so comforting and fun to watch that I decided to pick up a book to read. Can't wait for future reviews!
I love the way that you think through your ratings!! This was SO helpful... Also, listening to you talk about Love, Intentionally was so tender.
