    There's no load on the axle not spinning and when the lock engages it overspeeds the stationary wheel until the little bit of load there goes away at which point it unlocks. It's working fine 👍

    Appreciate the video it shows a normally functioning GM Truck G80 locker rear differential. The pall just mechanically engages and makes a noise. A lot of problems with the G80 locker are caused by dirty oil. NOTE: DO NOT use the GM additive in the truck LOCKING axle the additive is only for the limited slip axles in the passenger cars. The additive can keep the lock clutches from engaging. Always interesting to see how things really work...

      Rukkkis no it makes the noise when the diff is spinning at the same.position each time probably a bad piece of gear

    That gov lock is doing exactly what it's supposed to. If you watch the left axle isn't spinning and the right one is so the mechanism is trying to actuate the locker exactly as it's supposed to and they clunk when they engage. But you don't have it under enough load to keep it engaged so it's engaging and disengaging. I've had these diff's for years and even rebuilt them, there is nothing wrong in this video except the operator.

      blk95gsrt I was in the Walmart parking lot and it felt as if my rear locker engaged and went to pull into a parking spot and I felt and could hear the drivers side tire skirting across the pavement like my locker was still locked any ideas on what could be wrong ?

    • @blk95gsrt
      @blk95gsrt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hard to say sounds like it engaged and hung for some reason. Start with the basics and change the fluid. The gov lock is a clutch type diff and if the fluid is in bad shape the clutches won't function properly. If that doesn't help you may have had a failure and you'll need to repair or replace the diff.

    For the life of me I can’t understand why someone would think a ‘service fed system’ would automatically be a rear differential problem. That said, 35 inch tires will blow the G80’s apart. Significantly higher inertia than stock wheel/tire combination.

      jameslocke I thought you said this started happening after a fluid change.
      Have you ever heard of one locking and unlocking own its own when your simply just driving down a level paved road at 30 to 50 mph? Once in a parking lot making a slow sharp turn the inside wheel started spinning just a tiny bit. I think it was locked at that time.

    If you're gonna beat on your truck,Gov-Loc might not hold up. Had one in my 2wd S10,it didn't hold up.
    I didn't even beat on that truck. I didn't even take it off road or do burnouts with it. I towed a 1500lb boat & trailer. Some teeth broke off a little shaft inside. I put a Torsen in there out of a Camaro. Torsen is just as smooth and there's really nothing to break inside,no clutches to wear out. Got it used for $250.00.Another thing is that the clutches won't last the life of the vehicle with Gov-loc.They'll probably wear out by 100k. Clutches are worn out in my Explorer 8.8 trac-lok. It's got 150k on it but they been worn out for a long time. As long as you plan on keeping both tires on the ground I'd get a Torsen or a Tru-Track.

    • @lv4boxing
      @lv4boxing 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Na with this amount of load on the thing it's totally fine. Have you ever used a power drill or a drill press to drill through steel? Usually you lube up the bit and the punched hole you're about to drill into. If you keep the bit turning slow enough you'll never see a burn mark or smoke indicating heat scarred/weakened metal. Those gears look like they have plenty of lube on them for light rotations like this. That T-rex walking sound coming from the vehicle though.... now THAT sounds horrible.

    Hello thank you for a awesome video. I'm looking for some good advice here hopefully you or any of your commentators can assist me. I have a 05 chevy Tahoe LT,4x4. I believe it's got 3.72 gears. Lately my rear end seems to lock up when turning at slow speeds. And from time to time I may here a clunk as well when turning. I dont here any humming, grinding noise or winding noise. I opened up the cover and replaced the gear fluid with recommend 75-90. I did not see any scoring or anything on the gears from what I can see. When I inspected the cover I found a small piece of curved metal about the size of a quarter. It does not appear that it broke off of anything. It looks more like a retaining clip of some sort that may have loosened up and fall off. Not quite sure if this is what is causing my issue. Additionally when driving straight on street or highway i get the feeling the feeling of dragging or pulling a heavy trailer. The power just isn't there. Please help!!! Thank you for your input

    The newer that G M trucks get the junkier they get . I had a 1991-1500 Chevy , the best truck I ever owned . Finally wore it out . My truck now is a 1993 -1500 Chevy pu and in just 2 years , it has several new features different from the 1991 that are as sorry and junkie as you can get . These companies today have engineers that are as sorry as you can get . A CHILD COULD PROBABLY COME UP WITH BETTER STUFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are either to dumb or trying to get an attaboy biscuit from the company they work for to produce anything worthwhile . Most companies have brought shame and reproach on themselves and on those that work for them , all in the name of profits and planned obsolescence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I was an engineer , I would not ruin my reputation , for any company .------------------------Ernest E. Johnson

      The toyata tundra is a chevy knockoff. It sits on a GM frame, hosts the lower end of the chevy 5.7 motor.

    So bought a 2021 custom trail boss and at 12,000 miles my rear differential needs to be replaced. Filed claim with corporate and so did my local dealership. Never towed or went off road with truck. Now I don’t even want this truck. They should put me in a new one. Truck Ian paid off and I couldn’t trade it in with this history now. Pissed!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡
