That's right Sylvester Stallone stars in the role that made him into a killing machine meme. Sly Stallone is the best action hero out there at this time and between Rocky and Rambo the 80's had plenty of his mug on Camera! Anyway enjoy the first installment which has a great heart to it. I think it's the best Rambo film. FULL STOP.'

This film did more for Vietnam Veterans in 90 minutes than anyone did in the 10 years before it.
And murricans still refuse to think why that might be. You fought an illegal war, just like ruSSia does these days.
For my money First Blood was the best of the series. It had a really good story which was representative of how a lot of the Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned. This was some of Stallone's best acting especially the scene at the end in the police station.
Part 2 had potential (James Cameron's original script can be found online), but when they made decision to have Rambo literally wage an entire war by himself in that movie, that killed any credibility.
By far the best, I was really disappointed in the rest.
For us it was a surprise when we watched it at the theaters not knowing what this guy was trained to do,until that first altercation when he went thru the entire police force at the precinct,easy as stealing candy from a baby.
I think what I really LOVE about this movie is that it's one of the earliest real attempts to address the trauma the members of the military go through upon their return home from combat deployments. It's more than an action movie, but a testament to the struggles that a lot of Vietnam Vets went through during the first few years home - although I'm sure they didn't all go shoot up small towns :D This has always been one of my favorite movies. As a child it was all about the action. As I got older and face my own deployments, I began to really understand what this movie meant. Thank you for realizing how deep this movie went!
There were many earlier films that addressed this, and veterans with post traumatic stress were not a new thing in Vietnam, but this might have been the first film addressing the issue that made stacks of cash.
Stallone broke a rib falling through the tree, the scream was real. There's an alternate ending, true to the novel's ending, where Rambo is killed.

Nobody ever talks about how accurate Rambo's return fire is against the national guard. No wonder they didn't wanna go into the mine😂😂😂
Stallone was never properly appreciated... Has anyone else made 2 different series that have 4 or more great installments? It's an extremely short list to begin with, series that hold up after the sequel. Stallone gave us two of them.
And I don't know about you, but I never watch just 1 Rocky or Rambo film. If I watch one, I usually watch the rest.

@@TrumpFanNetwork2 Sylvester Stallone is done with Rocky and has decided he has taken the iconic character of Rocky as far as could go. He is letting Michael B Jordan take over in Creed 3 as the star and will be Director to, Stallone is just staying on as a producer.

In terms of "80s action" I can see why people would think Part II is better, much more action, but I'd say Part I is a better movie.
I think when the Sheriff heard Rambo rambling he might have had a change of heart, that is if he had one. The way he looked at Rambo while he was being carried in the ambulance; that silence was everything.

Well the Sheriff was a Silver star, Purple heart, holder, so he should have some idea of what combat is like.
Amazing how that last scene changes the entire movie in the final 5 minutes.

Because this movie was frown upon due to subject matter. Most wanted to forget Vietnam and not be reminded of it, which this movie did.

this is a film that represents at the same time the twilight of the 70s cinema and the beginning of that of the 80s
I was a young man when all Stallone's films were coming out, and he was so berated in the press for being a bad actor, and in some way I took some of that on board. But, now as an adult I say a firm "No" to those 80's movies critics. This and Rocky, are slowly becoming movie classics. For me Stallone should have got the Oscar for Rocky, and maybe even for that last scene alone in this movie. I just feel sorry for today's youth, who have to look to the past for these kinds of movies. Starting to really enjoy your reactions. Keep it up. "If you build it, they will come" lol

As for the movie, its almost hard for me to watch this moving knowing how that ending scene goes, as what Rambo says is an accurate description of how Vietnam war veterans were treated during that time. I remember when my uncle came back from the war - I don't recall the protests, but found out about it later as I grew up ...
I was little when my uncle came home from Vietnam. Its something I can't forget - as I came into my grandmother's house, he was sitting at the dining table. He looked liked he had come directly out of the jungle. He looked scary is what I remember. He never spoke about his time there that I can recall. However, years later ... much, much later ... he started to have flash backs of the war. He had delayed PTSD is what they called it. We also learned that the night he returned home, after getting off the plane, he and several of his army buddies had to sneak through the airport via a back corridor, as protestors were there shouting at them being murderers and baby killers.
This movie ... the ending ... makes me think of my uncle, and how he was treated.
Sylvester Stallone broke his rib during the fall down the tree. The part where the camera stops on him in the tree when he yells in pain is actual footage. He did most of his stunts back in those days. Great breakdown guys! Am subbing.

I really didnt expect to enjoy this as much as I did, growing up my father endowed me with some good taste in cinema and this one was one of his favorites. It's nice to see a "react" video to the film with people who can actually enjoy and respect the film and the process of its creation and the dedicated acting that ties it all together.

One of best if not best reactions to this tough underrated film.
Without that end monologue this is almost just another 80's action movie. That monologue hits so hard, and it's the only reason more Rambo movies were produced. Easily Stallone's best scene of acting, ever. IMO.
Movies used to be Sooooooooo WELL made. I mean... when was the last time we've watched an action thriller with this level of gravitas?
First Blood is awesome. Platoon is extremely good also. Two of my favourite movies.
This was the only of the Rambo movies that was based on a book. After the success of it they made Rambo into an all American hero type and made the sequels much more "Hollywood/shoot em up" type movies.

Yeah, this one is the best in terms of story, camera work, acting, direction, score, editing. "Rambo" has a great element in it about different points-of-view on war and is very intense, action-wise. "Rambo: Last Blood" has a lot of heart, well-acted, dramatic, and intense as well.
You guys are on a roll! So many great movies in a row! As somebody who graduated high school in 1981, I definitely remember First Blood coming out in 82. This is the most complex of the series because it’s based on the actual novel.
Rambo II better than First Blood? I wouldn't say that. Both are different stories and equally as good.
Agent Orange got my brother 30-something years after his Nam experience. He survived the cancer for a couple years, but the effects of the treatment finally got him in 2016.

Just to adjust that comment , I mean to say it was way more visible and had huge box office, comparatively. 2 I mean not better. ESP in story
Don't know if it's been said before, but the original book by David Morell has two major differences, the second of which was actualy in an earlier cut of the film :
1) the sheriff gets a point of view and is therefore a much more nuanced character. He himself is a decorated war hero (you can even see his medals in the movie, behind his desk) but from the Korean War : unlike Rambo who served in Vietnam, an unconventional war with widespread opposition back home and lots of media coverage of the good the bad and the ugly due to the generalisation of television, Teasle was always treated with respect for fighting in a "cleaner" WW2 style conventional war that was seen in its time as a righteous crusade and of which the horrors didn't make it to the American public's living rooms like it did with Vietnam in the TV era. So there's a additional conflict of generations angle to the story and a discussion on the ideas of "clean" and "dirty" wars. Despite his prejudice, Teasle also genuinely cares about the town and its people

In the finale Rambo asks Trautman to kill him and end his suffering, which he does after some hesitation. This was actualy filmed but Stallone, who had a lot of control over the movie due to his Rocky fame and personal involvement in the production, did all he could to change the ending, and he got his way.
Dang, didn't know my asking you do do the extended DANCES WITH WOLVES would have stuck with you for so long. Lol. That would have been a two part video reaction. Lol. Man, Rambo's breakdown at the end gets me every time. Stallone did some great acting in that moment. The Vietnam war was awful on our troops, then we treated them like crap when they came home. They were just doing a tough job, it wasn't their fault. I don't care what you guys watch, I'll be here for it. A hugely underrated film that has a middle act set in the Vietnam war, is DEAD PRESIDENTS. It's part coming of age, part war, and part crime film, but all from the perspective of black Americans. Cheers guys.

I have never not once heard anyone say part 2 is abetter film. It's more action oriented, but contains almost nothing else that makes this film great other than actions scenes.
the original movie was 3 hours long, sylvester thought it was so awful he even tried to buy it to prevent its release, it was just full of awful one liners that he hated but finally he convinced the studio to cut out 90% of his dialogue and convincing the studio that his dialogue should be very sparse but that it should be everybody else talking about rambo, and thats really what made it a success, but that last 5 minutes impacts so hard!

The Sheriff has a great reelection campaign. "I git most of the Sheriff's department killed or wounded, including myself. Started a personal war with a Tier 1 combat operator. Caused millions of dollars of damage to the town, left many of you without power for a couple of days, and basically provided a how to guide for walking all over peoples rights, and all this because I wouldn't let a hungry drifter have a sandwich. Vote me."

My dad was a GB I watched this movie so much....Arnold is cool but Sly hands down. Watch over the top! This is the best and most accurate portrayal of what a SF guy is. Dad was 10th mountain group out of Ft Devans Massachusetts. The rest of the Rambos were fun but this is as close as it comes to being real. I say that not from personal accords but being around a real SF man.....Wasn't no bs and would rather no one ever know who they are!

Stallone owns the franchise and still publishes some stuff ... well he gives independent comics creators permission to write a story - with his full control - about the characters, which are then published via crowdfunding campaigns. Unfortunately these campaigns are shadowbanned, because the creators are of the "go against the mainstream, criticising the changes made to Marvel and DC" kind.
If you’re looking for him as an actor… try Oscar. Comedy and gangsters, and yet NOT an action movie, it really made me respect him as a full range actor.

Unrelated, one of the boxing punches he took in the 1st Rocky sent him to the ER and almost gave him a heartattack.
Interesting tidbit, Brian Dennehy as the sheriff, vastly overstated his service record. He was in the USMC but never in combat, but claimed he was.
I always find it odd that men claim they were in combat and weren't. Me? How was I in combat. It's surreal. Absolutely horribly crazy.

if anyone wants to know how great stallone is, you just gotta remember this Rambo, this film was almost destroyed because it was way too long and just terrible before they edited it down, he also worked extremely hard to get rocky made, the ending to this film is everything, he really never even had to speak because that ending wraps it all up so well, stallone's made a lot of cheesy action flicks but he's also made a few really inspiring films

I was a sensitive kid, and when I saw this movie for the first time I cried for Rambo. A lonely, heartsick man who only did violent things to protect himself, and people just kept being mean to him... Unbearably sad...
the town of HOPE in BC where this was filmed is having a 40th anniv this summer where you can "hunt" for RAMBO pictures in stores around town and have a RAMBO statue downtown
this year they are having a bunch of cars being run over by a tank downtown

Such an underappreciated movie and Stallone is such an underrated writer. You guys should check out The Expendables. Sly wrote a dialogue in that film for Mickey Rourke that is stunning.
Fun fact, the movie originally had a lot more diologue. But according to Stallone when he started seeing the playbacks he was like omg this is terrible. We're making a terrible movie. (He said it had lots of cheesy comeback lines.) So he said let's just cut out like most of my diologue and see how it looks, and everyone agreed it had a much better effect.
In the commentary he really wanted the "That's how accidents happen." line cut out.
Anytime a content creator randomly quotes the masterpiece True Romance after watching the masterpiece First Blood, they get another sub.

Almost the only movie where you see Stallone get really hurt and in pain. Ironically, he kept the same character for the rest of his movies: "The invincible man".
Still, this movie is a legend. The environment, the music, the silent moments, the acting. Everything is perfect.
You also see him get hurt in Rambo III & Last Blood. Not sure about the others but I don't remember it happening.
This movie needs to be watched together with two other pieces of entertainment:
- Paul Hardcastle's song "19/nineteen"
- George Carlin's segment "soft language"
I am not a Stallone fan and I know it's sounds ludicrous, but this movie was seminal in how our nation as a whole treated Veterans who were in combat. In particular men who fought in Vietnam. It's hard to comprehend how badly they were treated. This movie did open eyes.
funny thing is, back in the day, this film apparently got knocked by professional critics for being 'melodramatic' regarding it's portrayal of what came to be called PTSD.
Just goes to show that professional critics can be as trash as they can be now.
I feel that First Blood is the best of the series. But its also less of a "action" film. Its really more of a drama in many ways highlighting what the Vietnam Vets had to endure upon coming home.

The greatest action drama film of all time.
I love the movie but I always tought that Trautman´s kinda action one liners "I came here to protect you from him-Your men are already dead-He is the best-he has war for breakfast" jarred a bit with the semi realistic tone of the rest of the film. I mean, once or twice, ok, but he barely does anything else. "You are lucky they are not all dead", we get it, and the sheriff doesn't give a damn, so... let it go. Don't push it, Truman. Or I will give you a review you wont believe. Let it go...
I truly wish this was a one and done film cause I read the book and it's 2 different worlds. I loved the movie but I wish it was to the source material.

Really good reaction. Thanks for this. I saw First Blood when it came out in theaters and re-watch it every few years. It's by far the best of the Rambo series. He was a real person in this one, not the cartoon character they turned the character into.
In the novel, there is a lot more character developement between Rambo and the cop, Will Teasle, who was a Korean war vet.. If you're a reader, it's well worth it.

I also think I heard somewhere that Teasle was "jealous" of all the attention Vietnam got as opposed to Korea and felt he was under appreciated for his time in the service. That is really weird to me though as the Vietnam vets had a horrible reception at home and the Korean vets didn't have anything like that.
The thing about people protesting Vietnam and being mad at the soldiers is that it was misdirected. It is the same as now the "WEST' doesn't care about all the soldiers dying in the Ukraine, from both sides. They are just soldiers. People label it a "War" and never consider it is fought by people's kids , kid's parents, people's brothers and sisters. They didn't choose this UN Proxy war. The US politicians faked an excuse in the Gulf of Tonkin to join the Vietnam war and like any country which is occupied by a foreign army, the Vietnamese were not ok with it being there. The protesters in the States knew the truth. They could not and would not be quiet. Now we have people speaking out about the Ukraine war and the government is scrambling to label it "misinformation" that needs to be censored and shut down.
First Blood is the best dramatically, #2 is 80s action perfection in Vietnam, most iconic, #3 is 80s action perfection during an odd time when Russia threatened tribal territory in Afghanistan, get lot more Col. Trautman & Rambo joins the precursor to the Taliban, wut can I say, #4 in Burma/Myanmar as genocide/conflict continue, is closer to First Blood in tone, very violent/brutal, great ending for the character, and #5 is a grisly kidnap thriller Taken meets Home Alone gloriously hard R
First Blood holds some many elements and views: You got Police brutality, PTSD war veteran, at one point you can believe that Rambo wanted to get himself killed by Police because he had no reason to stay alive. And best part is if you take away that he is war vet, you'll get mentally ill loner who has been abandon by soceity who goes killing spree, you wouldn't notice the difference this movie would still work.
Wow! You all left the other editor's in a wake of shambles. There could of been zero dialog by you two & I would give this reaction an A. Lol.. Legendary film. I always thought, if Sylvester Stallone focused on more films that dealt with a variety of roles requiring more acting skills, he would of been more acknowledged for great acting.

Really enjoy the movie, but my gripes is how over geared the police were. I highly doubt a sheriff department in the middle of nowhere where only a relatively small number of people live would be armed with military grade fully automatic rifles. Pistols, shotguns, hunting rifles, sure, but even major city cops didn't pack heat like that until much later when SWAT became more common. It also seems a stretch that the national guard would of showed up with LAW's and LMG's either.
Still a good movie, though.

This is a great movie and is one of the very few times I loved the movie so much more than the book. I think the only other time was with Hitchcocks Psycho.
While it's a fantastic film and a personal favorite since I was a kid (even more now as an adult). The book takes a very different tact.. John is the Vietnam vet with Teasle representing the previous generation (a Korean war vet). The book jumps back and forth between them as the narrator. Great book as well.

I'd love it if someone would react to "Freebie and the Bean" with Alan Arkin and James Caan, directed by Richard Rush who would do "The Stunt Man" a few years later. Somehow it spoofs the "Lethal Weapon" films ten years early. All the buddy cop cliches that hadn't been invented yet (or had they??) are made fun of in "Freebie and the Bean" and there's all kinds of cringe-inducing wrong things that probably caused problems back then. Flick is just bonkers in the best way and not nearly enough people know about it. So there.
Part II isn't even CLOSE to this one, none of the sequels are, i'm genuinely surprised you heard anyone say that. First Blood is in a different league.

Yes, and I stand by it. Why does the "National Guard have a rocket launcher?!? Seriously... the National Guard. The Military is necessary, yes, but it also can be ridiculous. Sometimes something can be both. They say it in the film. A pharmacy CS agent is in combat with a trained military op. I can clock that as ridiculous. I am all about safety and military spending, if and when it makes sense. When it stops making sense and/or we start losing perspective for its purpose, I tap out. That is when I call a spade a spade. Ridiculous.

There's a lot of great sequels that came out before terminator 2.
Aliens, karate kid 2, back to the future part 2, beverly hills cop 2, lethal weapon 2 and 3, die hard 2, the french connection 2... So to say no good sequels came before terminator 2, I'm sorry but that's absolute rubbish.
Ummmm Rambo First Blood part II was NO WHERE NEAR as good as this movie... they have little to nothing in common but John Rambo, this one has a deeper meaning, the sequels are just stupid pointless action
