I'm glad that the Democrats shifted their rhetoric from "Trump and the Republican Party are a threat to democracy" to "these guys are just plain weird!" The former comes off as overwrought and melodramatic to regular voters and gave the opposition power over us that they didn't deserve while the latter is a much more direct and relatable way for normal voters to understand the opposition's flaws without handing over even an inch of rhetorical leverage. I also think this is a big reason why everyone on the left has become way more enthusiastic about the election since the challenges ahead no longer feel so daunting to us. Handling a "threat to democracy" a month ago felt like rolling a boulder up a mountain, but handling "weird" now feels like taking out the garbage by comparison.

It is like the "Weird" line. Saying he is an existential threat to democracy makes the Democrats seem hyperbolic. Saying his antics make him weird, makes Trump seem like the nut. And the space between his hands means critics are going to have to be the ones to come out and imply that Trump's small pee pee was being talked about. It is in the mind of the beholder. I think it was brilliant and Obama pulled it off perfectly.
I'm glad that the Democrats shifted their rhetoric from "Trump and the Republican Party are a threat to democracy" to "these guys are just plain weird!" The former comes off as overwrought and melodramatic to regular voters and gave the opposition power over us that they didn't deserve while the latter is a much more direct and relatable way for normal voters to understand the opposition's flaws without handing over even an inch of rhetorical leverage. I also think this is a big reason why everyone on the left has become way more enthusiastic about the election since the challenges ahead no longer feel so daunting to us. Handling a "threat to democracy" a month ago felt like rolling a boulder up a mountain, but handling "weird" now feels like taking out the garbage by comparison.
Floridian here. I wish so very much that the Obama's would move to Florida and put Rick Scott and Marco Rubio out of work. It would truly change our country for the better.
