    Many thanks for sharing this advice. My Honda 5.5 engine lawnmower is 32 years of age. I bought it in 1992 and it has never broken down. The only thing I did was take it to an engineer 16 years ago when the pull cord broke. Wind the clock forward to this week in October 2024 and the cord broke. So I thought I would buy new cord and attempt to fix it myself. I came across your video this morning and hey presto I was able to do it myself with help from your good self. I'm just after cutting the grass. Final cut this year. Many thanks.

    On a tip from a lawn forum, I have been trying 850 lb. Type IV Military Grade Paracord. 100 feet can be had for $10 which is about half of the Stens price. According to the seller, 850 lb. means that the average tested breaking strength is 850 pounds. Type IV is about the same diameter as 4 1/2 regular pull cord. Used it towards the end of last year's mowing season and it showed no signs of fraying. Will give it a better test starting this spring. At $10, I don't have much to lose if even it doesn't hold up.

    Welcome back, Stella! We missed you. 😁
    On some recoils the top cover is solid with no perforations. I like to use a spring clamp to hold the pulley in place while I’m threading in the line. Sometimes I like to insert the line first and then wind up the spring. It all depends on how the recoil is designed. In that case if there isn’t room for the line to go around I cut a notch in the edge of the pulley.

    I measure the rope length then heat it before I cut it. It shrinks slightly making it easier to feed, has no frayed ends and cuts very easily with wire cutters

    Welcome back Stella,nice video,what size rope do you use on trimmer's and chainsaws.

    • @TheLawnmowerLady
      @TheLawnmowerLady  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! For smaller chainsaws and trimmers #3 or #3-1/2 amzn.to/3JrtGDJ
      Larger saws and trimmers #4 or even #4-1/2 if the pulley is large enough.
      The larger the rope pulley, the larger the rope diameter it can take at the desired length. Ideally, you want enough rope to start the engine, with a few rotations still left in the pulley. Hope this helps.
