You gotta love when Americans hear the truth what they don't want to hear, and then get mad because they didn't want to hear it

"I ask Congress to give me authority for mandatory conservation." Sorry, but no American should ever tolerate rationing in peace time. Thanks to the result of the 1980 election and paradigm shift in economic thinking, we're an energy exporter now.

Nah, Jimmy carter blamed people for being ”materialistic” because he had failed the economy

Leftist npc. It isnt the citizens that should spend less, its the government. Carters presidency was a disaster and there were shortages of everything so he made this speech to excuse his incompetence.

what a stupid opinion. Ronald Reagan is the reason why jobs today do not pay as well as they used to and why most Americans born in the 1980s and 1990s will never own a home. Nothing about you being an American means that you get to be better than anyone else. That arrogant mentality needs to be stomped out once and for all. People who think the way you do, poor people who pretend they will one day become rich are the problem. You will always work for someone for the rest of your life. That is who you are and it’s time to accept it or you will need to be humbled.

@@bagel-wi7kl I wish the paradigm shift would have been more towards nuclear energy than to wasting oil on energy (when said oil could be instead be conserved for clothing and heart medicine)….but what do I know? 🤷🏻‍♂️😐🤣

I was 5 years old when I first heard this. While I was too young to really understand what he was saying, I do remember the weekly visit to the gas station and the long lines at the pump. A half hour to fill up the tank in Venice, CA. I get why Reagan's "Shining City on the Hill" speech resonated .

It’s been 45 yrs to the month this speech was made, it’s hard to not look back on this thru the lens of what just transpired in the epic month of 7/24 where jb made not just 1 but 2 addresses, jc was a mentor to jb, i often wonder what lbj & jc would say to jb in his presence

Interesting that the actual word, "malaise", is not found in his speech. Check it with a transcript search.

Jimmy Carter was actually honest and wanted to solve issues. Fitting he loses to a clown who would just lie and say he's gonna fix it just because.

@@Exisist5151 Ronald Reagan is America's greatest President of all time , and our most successful Christian President .
I admire President Carter for attempting to bring peace to the middle east by negotiating with Arafat { good luck with that , Arafat the terrorist }.
Anwar Sadat would have been easier for Mr Carter to negotiate with .
Reagan got great things done .
He negotiated with Tip O'Neill , the domestic big tax monster ' terrorist ' , and managed to cut taxes to 16 percent across the board .
I wonder what was tougher for Mr Reagan , negotiating with the leader of the evil communist empire , Gorby , or Tipsy .
I like Dinesh D'Souza's truthful , wonderful book about President Reagan - How an Ordinary Man Became an Extrordinary Leader '.
I think that is the title of the book or pretty closely accurate .
There are some people today who are lying about President Reagan , and trying to re - write history by trying to tear down his great legacy as President because they cannot stand America being a Christian nation any longer .
If they can tear down our greatest leader , that will make it all the easier to achieve their goal , to turn America from a great Christian nation into a godless atheist Marxist nation !
So be careful what you wish for .
btw - Ronald Reagan is on the Mount Rushmore of the 4 greatest Republican Presidents ever ,
      Abraham Lincoln
      Theodore Roosevelt
      Calvin Coolidge
      Ronald Reagan
I do not follow what the Democrat and Republican parties platform is today .
I vote for who i believe is the best candidate for the job , not for party .
I love America , not the government parties .
      Especially not the beaurocrats .
      God bless President Ronald Reagan
      God bless Senator Joseph McCarthy
      I hate communism with a passion !
God bless Connie Francis , who is a brave , courageous woman who payed her own way in the late 1960s to entertain and boost the morale of our real heroes , our American soldiers .
While there , Connie performed the most important concert of all time when she sang God Bless America and 25 thousand soldiers sang along with her .
Connie's concert is more important than ' Elvis : Aloha From Hawaii ' and a billion times more important than all of the Beatles' concerts combined !
God bless our Christian nation , America the Beautiful !

Mr. Carter was a good president. Unfortunately, 45 years later we are still in an energy crisis, one of uncontrolled CO2 emissions and too little renewable energy.
