Out of all the top results for wood exoxy filler videos, yours was the only one that actually showed working the putty, thank you for this. It gave me the confidence to go ahead with my repair, feeling like I know what I’m doing
Wow I really needed this. I’m currently working on a piece and took a break to check TH-cam for the best way to fill holes. I hope they have it at Home Depot. Thank you so much for the video.
I used kwik wood for mainly corner or veneer repairs. It is great. Bondo for larger flat repairs, durhams wood putty for corners and carved shapes or filling designs on surfaces. Wood putty for small dings etc. Famowood for all of the above. Each has its purpose, but i use more kwikwood !
Thank you this is beyond helpful and exactly what I was looking for! So many videos use a variety of things but you showed them all at once instead of just showing your favorite, I really appreciate you doing that for us!!
I love this because I find that no matter what kind of wood filler I try you can still see the outline of the hole when you paint over it! I will definitely be using Kwickwood from now on!!! Thank you for taking the time to do a comparison video!!! Great job 👏
I felt that same way until I switched to kwikwood! It was so frustrating to always see that outline. And then trying to figure out how to get it to go away. I think you’ll be super happy with Kwikwood!
There is JB Weld Kwikwood and Quikwood. They are both epoxy putty and mix the same way. I’ve only used the Kwikwood to fill 12 dowel holes. I think I mixed too long because it began to dry and harden before I finished. I rolled a coil a bit smaller than hole and push it in the hole, broke it off about 1/4 inch high and and use a putty knife to spread the excess flat and fill the hole completely. I agree with your assessment.
I've just started furniture flipping, and you're videos have been so helpful and informative. Thank you so much for all the work that you put into these videos!
What an underrated video. You just saved me so much time trying to decide what to use. I’m new to home improvement and that experiment was everything! I have a desk that has some pretty giant ugly drills in it. Any idea how the kwikwood appears on wood laminate?
This is awesome! Filling hardware holes drives me crazy, so I'm excited to revisit Kwikwood. I've tried it in the past, but it was really stiff and hard to mix and was crumbly when I applied it. The product in the tube I bought yesterday was way softer and easier to mix. I'm almost excited to fill holes today!
Thank you. I'm repainting my room. It's made of old wood, we are just renting so I don't want to renovate the place. This video ia very helpful. Thank you very much for the wonderful tip
Thanks - I'll be using Quick Wood from now on - was using wood filler and it always shrank - it was a pain and you would always see the outline of the hole. Appreciate you showing us the difference between them all :)
No filler will stain well. If you want it to match exactly, then you will need to do this trick to get it to match. arayofsunlight.com/wood-stain-repair/ KwikWood will accept stain, but it will not match exactly to the wood.
Thank you so much for your video. You showed the exact problem I’ve been having for a while, filling holes. I’m going out today and by the kiwkwood! Your comparison showed me what not to do. Thank you again.
Thank you for this video!! I am planning to repaint my bathroom vanity and change the hardware. I wasn't sure what I should use to fill the holes? Thanks to your efforts in comparing all of my options. Great Job!👍 Now have to buy me some Kwikwood .😉
Very good video. As a painter, I would not finish off a repair with wood filler. Kwikwood is a great filler to fill the hole. I would recommend Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty (that exact product) as a finish filler. It seems like it spreads thinner than paint. You can even fill very shallow places where a layer of paint chipped off a cabinet. Give it a try. You’ll probably have to go to an auto parts store for it. It’s premixed in a tube, and it’s really easy to apply.
Hey! I actually tried that glazing and spot putty before and I didn't feel like it did much. Maybe I used it wrong. I bet I still have it in a drawer somewhere haha Maybe I'll try it again.
@@ARayofSunlight I just used it on a very large kitchen cabinet repainting project. I was spraying the paint, so it was very important to get a perfect filling of the shallow chips, dents, and places where a previous layer of paint peeled and was painted over. It works beautifully for me…the best product I’ve found. Let it dry completely before sanding, and be sure to sand with a solid block. Then prime the repair, and you’re good to go.
I just recently had my cabinets painted then decided I wanted longer hardware over the previously 3” holes. Do you think I could use this method & touch up with paint without repainting the entire cabinet?
For the bondo would auto glazing work? In autonomy work. Sanding primer and glazing are the other fillers. Also glazing is easy to sand. Nice video. Appreciate the comparitives
Omg!!! This video saved me so much time! Thank you so much!!! By any chance, do you have a vid about removing paint from an already painted item? This one piece I bought on thrift was painted pretty sloppily, and I want to repaint it.
Thanks for sharing, this has been enlightening to say the least. Question, any chance of a video on how to repair wood that has separated at the joints? I have a small table that lives outside under shelter, and the top has developed separation anxiety 😢
I have a late 1990s, early 2000s bedroom set that has those recessed drawer pulls and I don't like them at all. I'd like to fill them in and install hardware pulls. After that, I'll paint the pieces. Do you think I could do large holes like that with Kwickwood or Bondo??? I don't know what to do.
try other brands of body filler, for example at oreillly's parts store you can get evercoat pro grade premium filler, it's smoother, it's worth a shot. I think once you find one that doesn't shrink much you will like it. but again read the directions, there is very little hardener used for body filler, much less than what you're thinking, for putty the size of a AA battery you're using like less than a pea size droplet, a very tiny amount, and I mix the hardener before squeezing it out
Thank you so much I was having a headache trying to think pick the best way to fill the premade holes on my desk riser! I kept going back and forth between wood filler and dowels but they all seemed too messy or complicated. Is kwikwood strong enough to be drilled through and hold a knob? And do you recommend it to fill a 1" diameter hole or is there a better option?
Awesome video, but I have a question. 1. Will this work well on white cabinet? 2. Once hole is sealed into my white cabinet, so I just paint over the hole area specifically so it all looks flush?
Yes, you can stain. But, it's a lot trickier to make repairs on furniture and then have them match the color of the rest of the stain on your furniture, as well as have them absorb the same way. It's a lot easier to paint over it and hide those imperfections. We do have a blog on staining wood filler though that you might want to check out. Hope that helps! arayofsunlight.com/staining-wood-filler/
I personally would use the wood dowel method for that. Wood will also be more durable in my opinion than Kwikwood when you are drilling and screwing back into it.

It’s really such an amazing product.
@@ARayofSunlight thanks for the info! It might have just been a bad tube. I’ll have to try again and I’ll be sure to store it inside and that should help.
Is it better than just putting a piece (or pieces) of wood inside the hole with glue? (in case I don't care about the appearance but just want to place a hinge with screws).
I have a dresser with large holes (maybe a 1/4" around) where the handles are. Is Kwikwood strong enough to use as a filler and then pur the handles back and not have the filler come out as the drawers are opened?

I’ve seen a lot of people use bondo before but I never knew how much it smelled until I tried it myself. Gave me a headache so I’m glad there is a different option out there!
Not exactly sure how many holes you can fill with one tube, but a little bit of kwikwood goes a long ways. I have never ran out of a full tube of kwikwood when filling holes on a piece of furniture, even when there are lots of holes to fill.
Hello! I made a rookie mistake and finished my piece before purchasing hardware. The old hardware had an insert from the front, creating a larger hole for hardware. (Similar to the vintage hardware you showed in the beginning of the video) I can barely see the hole since the hardware covered most of it, but I can see the corner just the slightest. How would you work with an already finished product? Thanks!
That’s an easy fix! You can fill the holes in, don’t overfill so you don’t have to sand it down. Then paint the filler. You can drill new holes into the kwikwood for your hardware. And since the new hardware covers most of the hole, you won’t notice the small touch up.

I think I used General Finishes Milk Paint on this demo.
