    Thanks a TON for this video. I have an on and off again intermediate autocad skillset. I just got a 3D printer and want to start some basic 3d design stuff for hobbies. I stumbled around Onshape for a couple hours thinking I’d pick up the interface/commands and got pretty discouraged. Following along with your coffee mug has got me jump started! Just what I needed to get a little muscle memory going.

    I have been a Solidworks designer for almost 20 years. I have several 3d printing related income streams but didn't want to tie up capital with a Sw license. Onshape gives me productive time to earn the $ to offset the cost before I buy. Thank you for your tutorial series. It has helped me transfer my design skills to the new platform. Im liking onshape more each time I use it.

    My first lesson and I followed along, wish I had two screens, fumbled along is probably more accurate. Somehow I moved my whole image to the right of the screen and I couldn't get the image to rotate by clicking on it until I figured out it was a right click and then drag it. This will be one of my first prints when I get my first machine on Monday, I followed along with adding the handle just for the knowledge, then removed it until I see how my machine does with over hangs. This lesson took me from zero knowledge on CAD to here, so as a 60 year old, Thanks very much.

    As far as I can understand, the handle is only connected to the mug at the tangent. How would you draw a real-life handle which is connected to the arc/curve of the mug?

    • @scottajane
      @scottajane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could at least bring the 'outer edge' working plane in from 50mm to say 48mm to ensure the handle is fully connected. Not sure this is the best way though. Then 'Boolean union' the parts so you can make a nice fillet on the joining curved surface.

    Regarding the handle questions, it is true that when you zoom in the handle is only connected on the centre line, not the whole width of the handle. I approached it differently, keeping my cup body solid, ran the handle sweep from the centre line of the entire cup and then extruded the inside of the cup after the creation of the handle.

    On the offset plane part, is there a way to click an area I want to set the new plane on the object without typing the dimensions? I can definitely see myself forgetting what they were and it seems easier just to click where it should be

    Handle is not properly connected to the mug, cause attachment does not follow the form of the mug. it will not merge this way - anyway to fix that?

    • @infiniteone11

      @DanielosCompaneros Try to end the spline more perpendicularly to the joining surface and offset the plane for the Handel sketch more toward the inside diameter of the cup.

    I don’t really like onshape, buy you know, it’s free so I use it. Anyways the mouse controls are just horrible and I tried to change them but the other ones are even worse. Do you know any method to change (personally) those controls?

    I just started using onshape yesterday and was able to make all the parts for the 3D picture frame. Is there a way to import all the parts to one drawing? I need to lay them out a certain way so the CNC Router can cut the parts out of one sheet of wood.

    • @RajinderYadav
      @RajinderYadav ปีที่แล้ว

      for you 2nd question, you can draw another circle on the extruded surface and then do another extrude to "remove" down to what ever dept you feel like instead of using the shell tool.

      I also have a gap between the sides of the handle and the bug, only the center is connected. moving the handle plane to about 48mm instead of 50 works but feels wrong

  • @jquehe

    I don't know where I am going wrong, but I cannot enter the dimensions as I draw. As I drag the edges the dimensions appear, but I see no way to edit them. And hitting enter does not seem to complete the action. If I instead try to click on the Green checkmark, as my cursor moves, so does the shape of the object I am attempting to sketch.

    I am struggling to add dimensions on eclipse or alter once created - it either duplicates more circles but the dimension does not allow me to alter once creating - I have watched over and over but still not letting me - what am I doing wrong?

      You need to click on both dimensions of the ellipse -- height and width. When you click the 2nd dimension, you can enter your measurements. Took me a while to figure this out, would click here or there, and finally figured it out. He said it in the description, but didn't demonstrate it so it wasn't easy to follow.

    nice vid, but the program is pissing me off tbh, i can make anything in paint, but here its over complicated, should be able to just do like default thickness and draw in 2d instead of 3d, and draw it done then add 3d to add the outer layer, i need to use this to make racks for work.
