Actually it is not surprising that Latvia qualified, they are only who have slow balad. People who loves that style dont have any other options to choose. I like Albania, but I understand why they dont qualifily, just becouse there are 5 more songs in simmilar style :)

I didn't care for this song, but yesterday he performed it so well, the voice was strong, sounded powerful compared to the others, and the emotions at the end were sincere. I'm happy he qualified, he is a great singer.

looked it up and Lithuania actually won the jury vote in that semi
(also I feel like this one is even more shocking because the eurovisionworld odds are more accurate than wherever the odds were in 2011, there's no way Lithuania should've been last in that semi which also had Portugal, Croatia and San Marino)

It wasn't a shock. Latvia has more and more chances beginning with the first dress rehearsal, Belgium Mustii got problems with his voice all the time. I hoped he could be better, but unfortunately wasn't.

Me too. I love the studio version. But he was too fast in the beginning in tempo, off pitch and got drowned out by the backing track.

Sadly a lot of artists had a loud backing track, you could hear that loudness even for Joost's performance which scared me the most but thankfully he qualified. I was hearing for the first time the songs in semifinal 2 and my two favorites by far were Latvia and Switzerland. Georgia was my 3rd favorite.
I do not understand why people are suprised by Latvia getting qualified and not for Estonia!! Latvia was great performance and vocal, it reminds me of Albania 2012 (my all time favorite performance).
I would prefer also Malta and Albania (my country) qualified but the semifinal was very strong. Im rooting for Latvia, Ireland and Switzerland for the Final.

Because the direct competitor of Malta was Georgia, that was clearly superior. Latvia had a nice ballad and it stood out.
