  • Last 1250m of mens single sculls A Final
This was recorded from BBC coverage, commentators were Daniel Topolski and Gary Herbert
Rowing held at Penrith lakes with lane 6 nearest camera
Having ignored Marcel Hacker from Germany in Lane 2, Gary Herbert is confused when he sneaks into the bronze on the line and mis-identifies him as Juri Jaanson of Estonia who is Lane 1

Quite some ignorant anglocentric reporting by Gary Herbert of the BBC. As the mad dash for silver and bronze unfolds, he says "Here comes Derek Porter!", completely ignoring the guy in Lane 2 chasing Xeno Mueller, and then, at the end saying "Ooh, Juri Jaanson!" when it was Marcel Hacker in Lane 2 who took the bronze!

1:25 catch as part of the recovery.
I think Xeno looked technically the best.
    Derek Porter looked wobbly?
Waddel had the best power*tech combo.

Thank you. I enjoyed my 2000 Olympic preparation. I blew up brutally in the last 500 meters. All week long I woke up with a sore throat which after a couple hours went away. Weird.
Massive lead at 500 meters to go and then I blew up 😂. I can’t believe I saved myself through the line with Silver. Phew.

@@elite_online_rowing_coach Yeah, I listened to your full commentary of that final and 1996.
      Both very good listening.

@@MostynARC Brutal, I remember that day as if it were yesterday. The entire body was seizing in those last 500 meters. Two months earlier, I won the World Cup in Vienna, the same way Rob won this Olympic final. My rationalization of this race is that, my life would not have changed that much had I won a second Olympic gold medal. It changed Rob’s life a lot more and I am very happy about it.

@@elite_online_rowing_coach it sucks that you are/were such an elite athlete yet you only get 6 likes on this. Had it have been the 100m sprint then it would be different. Such a pity cause the world in general does not understand how extraordinary this accomplishment is. You are a legend Sir. Thank you for the inspiration you have indirectly given to me in my life ❤. You are a class act 👌
