      @John Sampson by physical access, he likely means access to the drive holding the data in real world space. Online security is still housed somewhere in physical space. The only factor in breaking encryption is time, and if someone has physical access to data, time is irrelevant.

      @lauratimmel3402 4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Lol, nah, he humblebrags all the time, and he's acknowledged as much in at least one comment I saw somewhere. Basically said that you don't have to brag if it's obvious how good you are. (Though I believe he used a football metaphor about touchdown dances or something like that.)

    • @DDracee
      @DDracee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      @@lauratimmel3402 It's also just that he's so good, that he finds this stuff he does on the daily not worth bragging about. Like; Kid gets a good headshot in a game and he freaks out and brags to his friends, pro competitor does it on the daily with no reaction because it's the norm to him. Even when you know what you're doing is impressive "to others", it just feels empty to brag about something you don't personally find impressive, what you find impressive is always relative to your own skill. And when you're at the top, your standards as to what's impressive are even higher. It's akin to the phenomenon that most world record holders are convinced that their record sucks, because all they see is how it could've been better.
      Like, are you going to brag to a toddler learning to walk about how good you are at walking? Since walking doesn't feel impressive to you, bragging about it just feels wrong even if that toddler finds it super impressive. Most people you find that don't seem this humble about their skills are either just playing the part for views (football dances included) or they lack confidence in their skills are really fishing for validation from others.

    • @eldonhill4840
      @eldonhill4840 4 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      Just a beginner, but I'll do my best on the terms you mentioned.
      Counter rotation: normally, you're exerting a constant rotational force with your tension wrench to identify which pins need to be set first, and to hold the pins in place you've already set. Counter rotation usually refers to when you feel a force resisting your tension and pushing back in the opposite direction. This is generally from a false gate.
      False gate: also known as a false set. This happens when you encounter a "security pin", a pin with a nonstandard, usually grooved shape. They're designed so that when you lift up on them, one of the grooves will click into place and trap the pin halfway up before the pin is actually fully set above the shear line, preventing the lock from opening, while still feeling and sounding very similar to a pin that is properly set. If all pins seem to be set but the lock isn't opening, you can probe all the pins you've already set and feel for counter rotation. The one that gives counter rotation is probably a security pin in a false gate. A false gate can sometimes be detected right away by sound or feel by a skilled lockpicker, but a beginner probably won't know until all the pins seem to be set. At that point, dealing with a false gate can require slightly loosening your tension to move the security pin up farther, which can make the other pins that are properly set fall back out of place. It can defeat random picking methods like raking, as well as inexperienced single pin pickers, as well as slow down intermediate pickers.
      Binding: when you're exerting tension on the lock with your tension wrench, you'll start probing pins individually with your pick. With the right amount of tension, most will be loose and will move up and down freely, but the one that feels most stuck or "binding" is the first to contact the edge of the pin chamber, and should be the one you picked first, because you can get it above the shear line ("set") and hold it in place with the least amount of tension, then move on to the other pins requiring higher tension and repeat the process.

      Or more often from a spool. You get counter rotation when the fat bit of the spool is trying to get thru and into the shearline and it's the time for the picker to easy the tension on the lock or no go ;)

      It is widely accepted that no mechanical lock can be invulnerable to picking. If it opens with a mechanical key, it can be opened with other tools; if it hasn't been opened with other tools, it hasn't been opened with other tools *yet*.
      Time and again that has proven to be true, most recently when huxleypig slayed the Abloy Protec 2 on camera.
