    MLK and Marcus Borg Rock! Both of them totally changed my life.

    The main problem with the view that King was not Christian is the idea that salvation is based on doctrinal beliefs alone. That is simply not the case. You CAN be a Christian and be in error, or believe erroneous things. Remember how Paul had to correct Peter in Galatians 2?
    Now it is true that Christians should believe certain fundamental articles of faith, but regeneration of the Spirit does not depend on having every little doctrinal belief correct.
    The second problem is that we have to take into account that Dr. King studied at liberal schools that gave him liberal coursework and readings, and that he had to interact with that material for grades. The things he says in school papers cannot be found in sermons he preached, to my knowledge. In fact, in one of his greatest works, Strength to Love, he made this profound statement against atheistic materialism:
    "Having no place for God or for eternal ideas, materialism is opposed to both theism and idealism. This materialistic philosophy leads inevitably into a dead-end street in an intellectually senseless world. To believe that human personality is the result of the fortitus interplay of atoms and electrons is as absurd as to believe that a monkey by hitting typewriter keys at random will eventually produce a Shakesperean play. Sheer magic! It is much more sensible to say with Sir James Jeans, the physicist, that 'the universe seems to be nearer to a great thought than to a great machine,' or with Arthur Balfour, the philosopher that 'we now know too much about matter to be materialists.' Materialism is a weak flame that is blown out by the breath of mature thinking." (p. 69,70, Beacon Press edition).
    These are wise and profound words that any evangelical today can agree with, and it is a tragedy that some people are determined to slight this man's legacy by only giving you part of the story based mainly on school papers. I suggest people study more deeply, and take into account the nature of what's presented from school papers that may not reflect what Dr. King truly believed in his heart, but what he learned and parroted from required readings at the time.
    Dr. King had many good and theologically sound things to say, and we need to investigate those as well, not just the snippets from Virgil from school papers.

      MLK denied the divinity of Christ, The Resurrection, and the Virgin Birth. He was a first order Heretic

    Nicky Gumbel loves to quote Martin Luther King Jr and Gandie... seriously and you may think who is Nicky Gumbel, well he is the head of The Alpha course... Ric Warren also is part of The Alpha Course... says a lot doesn't it?

    is theology or orthodoxy more important than the embodiment of love and the gospel? What makes someone Christian? Embracing the intellectual tenets of the faith or embodying the Spirit of Christ? Walking as he walked? Loving as he loved? Serving the God as revealed through Jesus? If I accept all the ideals of the Christian faith but have not love, what do I have? MLK was most certainly a Christian.

      You can't divorce the two. Love is truth; speaking against truth is not love (1 Cor 13:6). I hope MLK repented of his sin, as we all ought to.

    • @wesleyhargon
      @wesleyhargon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MrLucasArias4 What sin, in particular, do you hope he repented of? I know he wasn't perfect, but who is? Isn't this the purpose of the cross? Did MLK not bear this cross most of his life? Dying to himself in service to the world in the name of Christ? I am utterly confused.

    • @MrLucasArias4
      @MrLucasArias4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@wesleyhargon hello brother. MLK was having secret affairs all over the US, even leading up to his death (you can do a quick google search on that). Whether he was repentant of that sin while on his time on this earth is between him and God; God is judge. The bible teaches that we should go and sin no more (John 8:11); doesn't mean perfection, simply means not living in sin. If anything, MLK's example should encourage us to do two things: 1) have faith in God alone, not man; and, 2) deepen our understanding of how our Holy Father loves- which is revealed in the perfect birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. Brother, fix your eyes on the cross and keep pressing forward. Don't let this distract you.

    • @wesleyhargon
      @wesleyhargon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MrLucasArias4 Yes, I'm well aware of his affairs, and I'm sure he committed many more sinful private acts we don't know about. However, this does not negate nor distort his public proclamation of the gossip through word and deed, emphasizing his deeds. We all live in some sin, brother, but that does not mean the gospel cannot be communicated through our lives! I want to fix my eyes on the cross so that it may inform how I love God and my neighbor. I am called by God to do both. MLK did this well despite imperfect theology, private sin, etc. The same can be true for us. It is a grave disservice to claim this man did not embody the truth of the Gospel or to claim he was not a Christian.

    Is John Calvin, the author of the major christian doctrine of calvinism, more of a believer than Martin Luther King jr? Also was his lifestyle more indicative of a believer than Martin Luther King?

    Since you are so 'fair', can you do the same thing about the murderer and theologian John Calvin? Can you question his theology with his life, the same way you did with MLK?
