I’m 56 and a black man and I’ve never heard about this part of MLKS life, however I never put a man on a pedestal for that simple fact he is not the Messiah Christ Jesus is the only Savior. And you couldn’t make a majority of black folks believe that this man is not a man of God because a lot not all don’t know basic biblical doctrine and theology. Great information.

I’m a 57 year old American of African ancestry.
When I was 14 years old I researched Michael King Jr. as I prepared a presentation for “black history “ a month essay contest.
It shocked me then when I read that King considered Gandhi to be his most significant influence.
As a “church” kid, I wondered how a Hindu leader could possibly have greater influence on a Christian “preacher” than Jesus Christ.
That led me to look deeper into his life and his real beliefs.

From one Joshua to another, those who "have a clear understanding of the gospel and written great works" clearly don't if they murder the innocent. Why are you upset at those who point out unibiblical views and erroneous teachings? "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
No one here is discrediting MLK's contributions to American Civil Rights, we are merely suggesting that one should exercise caution when revering other human beings and their words, especially when in this case they were outrightly blasphemous. Placing the focus on a man's good works unfortunately often comes with the subsequent turning of the blind eye to his mistakes and sins, often because we look to other human beings for inspiration rather than Christ Himself (He who was and is without sin).
I'd also caution you from slipping into accusations that have no moral grounding. If you take issue with others, do it respectfully and maintain humility.

Which was christ and HIM crucified for our sins. Paul writes that if anyone preaches a different gospel than that of christ crucified let him be accursed. So there in lies the issue with MLK. I 100% agree with this video as well. Having done my own research on MLK years ago, reading his latest letters, I cannot in clear conscious consider MLK a brother in Christ, he was a hinderance of the gospel of Christ, perhaps even an enemy. Some other quotes:
    - I’ve been to the Mountaintop (1968): It's all right to talk about the new Jerusalem, but one day God's preacher must talk about the new New York, the new Atlanta, the new Philadelphia, the new Los Angeles, the new Memphis, Tennessee. [Applause] This is what we have to do.
    - Letter from Birmingham Jail (1963): the Apostle Paul left his little village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to practically every hamlet and city of the Greco-Roman world, I too am compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my particular hometown.
In the above letter, as reading it, I was most hopeful for him showing elements of orthodoxy, for that letter is rich in religious language. Yet, in the end I was saddened by how MLK used Christianity as a veneer for his social agenda. MLK had no saving gospel only an American one. And this is what he left the black community with. A hope for preachers to speak about the ills of society and not the ills of sin, to speak on the freedom from oppression, and not the freedom from being a slave of sin through the gospel of Christ. By God’s grace, may “Black people” (which I’m a part of) wake up and see that MLK did help advance a cause, but not one that has eternal value. We need the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to go forth, not MLK’s gospel of freedom. Soli Deo gloria

When I was in my 30s and first (yes I didn’t hear about this until later in life) heard about the sinful and dark private life of Dr. King I was so disappointed. I couldn’t believe that no one had ever mentioned this to me in over three decades. I asked, how could a true man of God hurt his wife like this that he is charged to love, cover and protect and never seem repentant about it. How could he be living that way for so long and continue to get in the pulpit? Then later, I found out about some of his doctrinal beliefs. In the south, the white middle class merchants were the ones who saw that seg hurt them in their businesses. They were the first to call for an end to seg.

I don't know that the Civil Rights movement collapsed as much as white resistance to integration collapsed over time. After all, the movement's proponents achieved their goals because white communities in the south mainly, began to see "seg" wasn't worth defending, and a great part of the impetus for change came from middle class, white merchants who understood that black folk's money was as green as white folk's money.
They also understood that cities' and counties' police agencies simply couldn't afford to continue policies that enforced or supported seg. That was middle class whites paying for all those cops, and they got tired of paying for "protection" that accomplished very little. They could no longer afford the manpower which cost a lot of money, and then there was the media heat.
The Civil Rights people were allowed to shop at certain stores despite seg, so boycotts of those stores in cities north and south were, in my view, more effective in breaking down seg than marches, which only served to annoy and anger whites. Thurgood Marshall, truth be known, took a dim view of King's "non-violent" resistance. He believed that the courts could and would right the wrongs of discrimination and segregation, and he was right, IMHO.

This is...wow. If he believed this, this is a man-made gospel that saves no one but makes man a God instead. Virgil, I knew there was something about you the first time I saw you on Fearless with Jason Whitlock. God wanted me to see you there so I could find this G3 channel. Since listening to G3, I have learned so much. My favorite teachers are here- Voddie Baucham, Paul Washer, Justin Peters, Susan Heck- wow! I am looking forward to learning more about womens role as defined in scripture as well. This channel helps me in my quest to seek expository teaching of the Bible. My life goal is Bible only, or Sola Scriptura, as Paul Washer says, because if I believe the Bible is my standard for living, I don't need additional information with God's inspired word. Martin Luther King Jr.'s writings are not God inspired (makes sense since his immorality was unknown by the public for many years as well). The lie of the social gospel is that it is no gospel at all.

did you know "During his holiday break from graduate school, King delivered a version of the following handwritten sermon outline at Ebenezer.1 He asks,"Will Christmas mean just another item in our social calendar or will it mean a new life and new attitudes resulting from our encounter with Christ." He said,
"When I stand in the face of Christ I am ashamed of myself. His noble character cause me to cry not "I thank God that I am not like other men. but "God be merciful unto me a sinner. We should go away with the conviction that Christ way is our eternal hope."
honestly could care less for his doctrinal beliefs - I'm wondering why the pressure to decide on this guy based on some quotes from a paper early on in life. Why pick him to attack like this? Did he ever say abandon Jesus for salvation?
"let us join together in a great fellowship of love and bow down at the feet of Jesus. Give us this strong determination. In the name and spirit of this Christ, we pray. Amen." - MLK
I'm here to cast all sorts of doubts lol

@joshua6545 The Bible (1 Timothy 4:16) states, "‭‭Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." The whole chapter is good actually because Paul is advising Timothy to be aware of deceiving spirits that will bring teaching by demons. I read the paper myself since trusting another man's thoughts is not the goal, but understanding God's word, the history, the context, then applying it where it does apply to someone should matter to all Christians. Martin Luther King Jr. concluded that Jesus was human but not divine. If he still believed this up to his death, chances are he taught this as a minister to others. That matters because man-made gospels take us far from God. His social message was spot-on, but when you quote scripture in some places and then denounce Jesus in other instances, it shows a shaky foundation. That is all I'm saying. Doctrine does matter.

I’m a fan of G3 and have greatly benefited from their ministry. That being said, despite the truth being presented here, I find it hard to believe that if MLK Day were Jonathan Edwards Day in some alternate reality, Virgil would be enjoying a similar position. Nor do I believe that similar interjections would have been made for any doctrinal errors of Jonathan Edwards.
I’m a 25-year-old Black male who, by God’s grace, holds orthodox beliefs. That being said, my understanding of US History seems to point to orthodox Christians of the time being slow to reform the issues MLK saw required more urgency. One has to consider if MLK saw the orthodox Christians of his day effectively making progress against the racial issues of that time, would he have adopted an orthodox view of Christianity.
I think it’s far too easy for us today, who are not actively dealing with the same pressures MLK faced, to assume we would have come to different conclusions if put in his position.
Again, I’m all for adherence to historic orthodox Christianity, but being that I’m also Black, I’m very grateful for MLK’s contributions.

💯💯💯. Spot on. Walker seems to critique MLK every year. He did it last year too. This is his way of taking a swipe at the Black community. MLK was not a Christian. I believe he was heretical and immoral. But God used him to end government sanctioned segregation while the White evangelical church assisted in maintaining the status quo. Had MLK not led the fight against segregation the US might've still been segregated today. Hopefully Walker will consider producing a video examining the racist pioneers of the Southern Baptist Convention who fought against Lincoln and the ending of slavery. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

@@kevinevans8892it was the same piece revisited from the previous year.
If Jonathan Edward’s held unorthodox beliefs believed to be Christian and we had a national holiday celebrating his accomplishments, rest assured I’d be making a video. The focus of my content here is orthodoxy. Note, it’s not morality (adultery, womanizing). I purposely addressed doctrine. If there’s a doctrine Edwards held that contradicts Scripture, I’m all ears. If you’re simply upset because MLK is black and your idea of fairness is for me to address someone white, I’m not the problem-ethnic idolatry is the issue.

@@VirgilWlkr Thank you for taking the time to respond. All of your responses to provide clarity on this matter are greatly appreciated. Also, please offer corrections where I'm wrong.
In my opinion, it is not that Jonathan Edward's held to unorthodox beliefs but the efficacy of his orthodoxy to produce the call to human rights that the scriptures teach during his time as compared to MLK, who, despite his heretical beliefs and immorality, seemingly had a better grasp on the human rights taught by the scriptures than Jonathan Edward's did, or at least was used by God to cause folks at that time to elevate their understanding of it.
To clarify the point I was trying to make. The same level of fervor when addressing MLK doesn't seem to be applied when it comes to a Jonathan Edwards, who, although held to orthodox beliefs, in my opinion, failed to apply and uphold a subset of those beliefs as it relates to the issue of slavery and human rights as compared to MLK. Jonathan Edward's silence on the matter allowed for how many more atrocities related to slavery to continue?
If the goal is a holistic adherence to orthodox Christian beliefs, then I think the efficacy of those beliefs to produce biblical fidelity and address the sinful manifestations at the time also needs to be part of the discussion. In this case, I think MLK's beliefs, although heretical, were more effective at combating the dehumanization during his time.

"Don't judge people by their skin color but by the content of their character" is a double edged sword. Racism is indeed a sin that anyone can commit. However, since no one seeks for God (Romans 3L10-12) and our character comes directly from our hearts which are deceptively evil (Jeremiah 17: 9-10) we can't judge people by that either. No one's character seeks for God either. Only those whose character has been hijacked (in the best of ways) by the Holy Spirit can we judge and that's inside the Church. God judges those outside of the Chruch. 1 Corinthians 5: 13-13. We are to call everyone, everywhere to repentance like the Apostle Paul said. Acts 17:30. Do not follow the doctrines of men. Follow Scripture.

Dr. King's embrace of liberal heresy is certain and important to acknowledge.
However, just as Ben Franklin's unbelief and Thomas Jefferson's heretical beliefs do not negate their contributions to our nation's founding, King's serious theological errors do not negate his courage in leading nonviolent protests in order to help establish greater political equality in accordance with principles seen in the Declaration of Independence.

The contributions they made to society has zero eternal value to them, they are temporary things in this temporary fallen world. I am not saying their contributions were not noble but in the long run what eternal purpose do they serve? The best thing you can receive is the tru gospel of Jesus Christ, the best thing and most important thing is to put all faith and trust in Jesus Christ. As for your comment and the scriptures, that you are quoting out of context, those NT passages refer to those in the church (brothers and sisters in Christ). That includes White AND Black saints of God. Jesus commands Christians to love their neighbor enough that when we see them in need, we do not shut-up our bowels of compassion (1 John 3:17), knowing that when we assist our brother or sister, to the best of our ability) in something that they need, we are doing it to Jesus (Matt 25:40). He also commands His followers to NOT be self seeking (Luke 9:23), and to work with your own hands (1 Thess 4:11). BUT, It is absolutely NOT referring to a system of government. About 13 years ago, after I became a born-again Christian, I read through the Bible. I came across Jeremiah 33:3 and started asking God questions. One question I asked was, if Psalm 91 is true, why didn't You, Lord protect MLK from getting murdered when he did so much good? Some weeks later, a man who had been an activist and photographer with MLK walked into my office. Long story short, I asked him what MLK really believed about Jesus. He told me what brother Virgil is expounding in this content. Later I researched and confirmed what the activist had said.

    • @rolysantos
      @rolysantos 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

While I don't challenge your story of whether MLK was a true Christian, because I don't know, I do challenge your premise that the reason God didn't protect him, was for that reason.
God DOES protect His people as long as HE still has a purpose for them (see Psalm 138:8)
But when God's purpose is fulfilled, even men of God die, and sometimes, it's by murder.
      Example:
John the Baptist was absolutely God's man.
His purpose was to go before Messiah, proclaiming His coming.
He did that, and then ended up in prison where he was beheaded.
      (Read Matthew 11 and 14)
But the bible also says "Precious in the the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints" (Psalm 116:15)
      And
"The wicked are destroyed when calamity comes, but even in death, the righteous have a refuge (Proverbs 14:32)
      And
"1The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away,
and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.
2Those who walk uprightly enter into peace;they find rest as they lie in death." (Isaiah 57:1-2)
The difference between Christians and non Christians, is not that Christians don't die, even in horrific ways. God DOES watch over Chrisitans and the day of our death is "precious" in sight. But when Christians dies, he enters into "rest" and is "with Christ." (Philippians 1:23) because God's purpose for him is fulfilled!

@@rolysantos Have you read Hebrews 11? Some were killed for their faith, but many were also delivered even from the mouths of lions by their faith. Jesus also said that He could have called upon legions of angels to deliver Him from the cross. Yes, I’ve read Hebrews 11.

I said you cannot determine that because God did not deliver someone from a horrible death, it’s because they’re weren’t Christian

I hear you but the way your comment is worded it sounds like you concluded that the reason God did not deliver MLK from assassination is because he wasn’t truly Christian.
This belief, whether it was your intention or not, is not biblical.
As I pointed out, and as Hebrews 11 confirms, God Does deliver His people but sometimes He allows them to die, even at the hands of wicked men. But the death of His saints is precious in His sight.
Also, when we truly trust The Lord, we accept His will; whether He chooses to deliver us from impending death OR not!
Like the three Hebrew children who refused to bow to the statue built by Nebuchadnezzar
      Who said
“ 17If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.
18But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3
It’s the “But even if He does not” mentality that is the mark of true faith!
We trust The Lord, no matter what!!!!

I agree. As someone mentioned here, there were several prominent Christian theologians mentioned in the comments that owned slaves. Are they saying these "godly men" will not be held accountable for this practice if they never repented of this wickedness? Worse, some of them even used scripture to justify this practice. The Southern Baptist Convention was organized to protect and preserve slave ownership. Don't let me even get into the despicable and wicked behavior of the former president. I'm sure some of the people in the discussion here love hearing this about MLK but unfortunately defend Trump's behavior and turn a blind eye and deaf ear to it. Extremely troubling.
