Tech Insight: the Features of the Ferrari 499P V6 Combustion Engine

- With the advent of the top class known as the “Hypercar”, prototypes competing at the highest level of endurance racing can have a hybrid powertrain that combines an Internal Combustion Engine - ICE, transmitting torque to the rear wheels, with a front axle-mounted Electric Recovery System - ERS. To create the engine of the 499P, Ferrari took advantage of experience in both racing and road-going cars. From the V6 platform used for the 296 GTB, Prancing Horse's engineers derived the engine for the 296 GT3 and, with appropriate modifications, the unit for the 499P. The 499P is an amazing masterpiece of engineering and technology but I really wish that FIA would raise the maximum limit of horsepower from 670 hp to at least 800-850 hp. The F1 cars are using 1000+ hp so it would make more sense if the WEC Hypercars could use at least 800 hp.
Would love it if it was for single class racing, with multiclass it's too dangerous i feel.

800hp for endurance racing? Wow, that brought me back to 1980s Group C memories, where 800-900kg prototypes ran for hours with 800hp. Truly golden age of endurance racing, where it used to faster than F1
With the current technology & safety, it is very possible to do endurance racing with 800hp much safer than before
@@faketaxidriver5651 Endurance cars were never faster than F1 cars, in the 80s if you remember F1 cars were like 600kg and there were cars like the Benetton pushing like 1500hp, but yeah, I wish they let the cars produce like 600/700kW instead of 500

Considerando anche gli altri team debuttanti come porsche e cadillac hanno avuto tanti problemi mentre ferrari quasi zero, il lavoro è impressionante. Aggiungiamo che questo motore ha vinto anche un’altra 24h, cioè quella del Nurburgring

Eh sì lo so. Non ho potuto seguirla, ma aver visto che per la prima volta nella sua storia la Ferrari si porta a casa una 24 h in Germania fa capire ancora di più quanto questo V6 sia veloce e resistente (peccato per tutti questi anni di sconfitte in F1, perché stanno oscurando quello che viene fatto negli altri campionati. E scrivo sconfitte dato che proprio per la Ferrari o si vince o non va bene)

A naturally aspirated 3.0lt V engine with carbon/sponge filled fuel tanks positioned correctly (around) within the car, would prove monumental gains in endurance racing/driving. It’s always the red tape that stops such logical progression?

What do you mean with dyno? Anyways its amazing how is rotating the motor just in case the care needs distribute the weight in the corners of the race

Very impressive, but IMO, the current Ferrari prototypes would be much better if they're equipped with hybrid V12s, like Ferrari had done with V12s in 1960s-1990s.
They'd be plumb last if they used a v12. Heavy and thirsty. Come on dude seriously.
@@millennialpoes5674 Lol, the Cadillac V Series LMH has 5.5L V8, & Porsche 963 has 4.6L twin turbo V8. That's large engines for sure.
I personally do not like Ferrari's V6TT because of farty sounds it made, just like the current gen Ford GT. & Ferrari has longtime tradition of having V12s for their endurance prototypes (250LM, 365P, 330P3/P4, 312P, 512S, 512M, & 333SP) and of course, V12 sounds beautiful. But if the V6TT performs so well, that's ok

Come fa a essere così silenziosa se letteralmente è senza scarico? Pensavo avesse almeno un filtro invece è diretto appena esce dalle turbine. Incredibile, che motore particolare
In realtà è proprio per quello che è "silenziosa" , più le turbine vengono montate a valle dello scarico e meno metallo c'è da poter far risonare.

Ma allora perché anche la 296 gt3 è poco rumorosa sebbene abbia scarichi più lunghi?
E perché le auto da corsa d’epoca nonostante fossero turbo ma comunque con scarichi cortissimi erano molto più rumorose?

@@bepi1332 quello che dici é vero, molte auto da corsa d'epoca con motore turbo erano più rumorose, F1 comprese, peró in tutta sinceritá non saprei dirti il perché di tutta questa differenza!
@@LorenzoTurattiprobabilmente il numero di giri, la 499p arriverà forse a 7000-8000 rpm siccome il regolamento limita a 10000 rpm. Le F1 viaggiano a quasi 15000 giri minuto ed hanno un solo turbogruppo.
@@kecco689 ma anche le F1 moderne sono silenziose nonostante i 15 rpm. Basta andare ad ascoltare ad esempio la vecchia Renault RS01 che era 1.5 V6 turbo ed era molto piú rumorosa di una F1 attuale. Forse gli scarichi erano di materiali/spessori diversi o anche il disegno stesso delle weste-gate era diverso

Yes, because endurance... it's lighter, smaller, more efficient. The best car of current era is probably the Toyota GR010 and it also uses a V6.
