Great video, the ponds looking fantastic. Be nice to see the koi in there, you'll have to watch out they don't get lost lol. Good work mate, take care, Terry.
Good evening Terry, I think it’s going to look empty even with them in there so looking forward to going to buy some new friends for them😊👍 Thank you for your kind words, encouragement and advice over the last few months, it has been appreciated.👍🈲🐟😊
That's the only thing I really miss in keeping koi, I use to love going out and coming home with a new koi. I do really miss that part. Take care, Terry.
Hi Lau. Thanks for watching and commenting. The fish should be in later, whether we will be able to see them in such a large pond will be another matter! 👍🐟🈲😊
Looking good Phil, slate definitely looks better with g4 on it, good luck with putting your fish in tomorrow, I think the grin you had when fibreglass was done will probably be second to the one you will have tomorrow. Rob.
Cheers Rob, much appreciated.👍 got everything crossed for the fish going in tomorrow and then I can start thinking about getting them some friends to play with 👍🈲🐟😊
Cracking video but be careful what size air pump you put on your media...i have the compact version of your filter and the air pump i put on was too powerful and the media kept going into the cleaning bay and getting caught up in the kogs that turn the drum so it wasn't cleaning as the drum wouldn't turn ...so just keep an eye on that as i was scratching my head for ages before i found out what is was ...the slate looks stunning as well what a good idea to coat them 👍👍👍look forward to watching the fish going in ..its been i while but well worth it 👍👍 stay safe 🌈🌈
Morning Ian. I had a similar issue, media bouncing everywhere! Have reduced the air pump to 35lpm and all seems good so far. Really appreciate your comments though as whilst I had a koi pond years ago everything has changed and I am a complete novice. I’m very grateful of tips and advice such as this. Thanks for watching 👍🐟🈲😊
Hi Phil fantastic pond and filter set up excellent job well done. Can I ask on the skimmer you used do you think I could connect straight to a variflow pump with 4inch to 2inch rubber boot with pump in pond or preferably pump outside skimmer pipe work up and over pond wall pump outlet going to bakki shower or moving bed?.
Morning Brian, I would suggest that will work and is an excellent idea. I’ve found that using my main pump to suck through the bottom drain and skimmer is not giving me enough draw on the skimmer even though I am controlling the flow with ball valves. I believe this type of skimmer works best with its own dedicated pump which can then be returned via a bakki shower or media bed as you have suggested. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on. Many thanks for watching 👍🐟🈲😊
Great job Phil, can't belive it's finally got to the point where the fish can go in. Thoroughly enjoyed sharing the build experience with you and the way you've explained each step of the way. Thinking about your comments on the air pumps, could you just use one pump to run the bottom drain and the moving bed with an adjustable "Y-valve" to divert the air flow as required? Keep up the good work mate, looking forward to seeing the fish in there soon.
Hello Ian, thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. Re the air pumps, yes I thought about using one pump to do both jobs but had a nightmare trying to find 9mm inside diameter controllable y valves so ended up just getting a cheap pump. Thank you for your suggestion though 👍🐟🈲😊
Hello there, yes, have none return valves on both air pumps. Have also ensured air lines are lifted above water level before going down to pumps. Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍🐟🈲😊
Hello Nathan, I used 440mm x 215mm x 100mm 70newton dense concrete blocks. I used then on their sides for the main pond build as that gives super strength but used them on edge for the filter bay as they won’t be carrying an6 weight. I looked at using lightweight blocks and hollow concrete blocks but when you start looking at the loads involved and the shear weigh of water you will see that solid concrete blocks offer much more strength in relation to their size. Good luck with your build, don’t forget to film it as we all love a good pond build 👍🐟😊🈲
Nice one Phil. The copings look really good. Re the sealant used - is there any other reasons for using it other than giving the pemanent wet look? Also re the seperate plugs for everything - I did exactly the same and if I was rebuilding tmrw, I wouldn't change a thing. You've probably thought of it but one thing I do is use cheap manual plug timers for things like lights, skimmer etc
Hello Ray, I used G4 sealant primarily to seal the slate so that it won’t split in the winter if water gets in between the layers, the wet look finish was a bonus. Glad I’m not the only only who likes the simplicity of plugs 👍. Good call re the plug timers, many 5hanks.😊🈲🐟👍
Hello, just go into the menu and it will be displaying 1 which means that the sensor is on and change it to 0 which will turn the sensor off. Hope this helps 👍🐟🈲😊😊
Pond looks fantastic but set your airpumps higher than the waterlevel 😉 or a 1-way valve in the line because of the pump is off the water is coming towards the pump up the airline.
Hello there, great point, thank you. Where they are now is only temporary but I have just been out and put them on top of my filter. Again, thank you.👍🈲🐟😊
@@TelfordKoiPond You're welcome, and if the pump drives you crazy on that plastic of your lid tonight, it's also okay to keep the airline higher than the waterlevel.

Hello Darrin, they fixed them down with a mastic type glue similar to instant grab or hard as nails. They then sealed front and rear with outdoor silicon sealer. Really smart finish. 👍🈲🐟😊

Hi Paul, I left 10mm overhang on the inside of the pond so that there was a good amount of coping to run the sealant along to make sure inside gap between top of fibreglass and underside of coping is completely sealed and watertight. Tiles are 300mm wide so after taking off the 10mm on the inside, the 25mm for insulation and fibreglass and the 215mm thickness of the block we are left with 50mm so after the split faced tiles or render is done to the outside of the wall (both circa 25mm deep in total) we will have a 20 to 25mm overhang. Hope this helps.
@@PaulF68 it’s difficult when everyone has an opinion but not having any gives a very stark line and makes it difficult to ensure a good waterproof seal.
