Hello there. Yes I’m pleased with how it’s all tied together and the units are definitely made of heavy duty materials. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🐟🈲😊
Hello Shaun, yes I’m really pleased with how it’s tumbling and how quickly it has matured. Think the trick was soaking it in pp first to etch the surface and then to use a less powerful air pump initially to help the media get started (a tip from someone else on TH-cam with same filter). Thanks for watching👍🐟🈲😊
With the oase swimskim 50 and fish getting inside, get some filter grid that's used in the bakki showers. Cut a piece to fit inside the trap door so its a tight fit but the flap can still move up and down. Small fish will get in there, I found my crucian inside mine, luckily I was about to save her.
Thanks Glynne, am enjoying playing with all the various elements. No doubt I still have more to do but filter covers next then can start looking at new fish 👍🐟🈲😊
I have a 2500 gallon pond. I have the proficlear compact and 110w uv I would of had a 55 watt but I got a great deal.. My water is crystal clear. Your filter won't even break sweat.
Hi Phil all looking good now m8 Could you please send me more details of the new Pond skimmer I did ask a while back about the gravity skimmer you was setting up but I think I will go with the one you have just fitted 👍
Hello and apologies for not responding sooner. please see - www.cotswoldkoi.co.uk/product/floating-surface-pond-skimmer-xl/ Having started with that I found I couldn't get a big enough draw on it without using a separate pump which then bypassed the filter so I have changed to an Oase swim skim which is working fantastic www.cotswoldkoi.co.uk/product/oase-swim-skim-50-including-pump/ . Hope this helps👍🈲🐟😊
Hello there, we had real issues getting the tiles we wanted so am having the pond rendered now so that we can change colour if we feel like a change. Hopefully it should be done this week 👍🐟🈲😊
Hi Phil 👋🏼 The skimmer pipework is too small in diameter that's why it's not really drawing properly but I'm sure you have worked that out and the additional new skimmer will be perfectly fine. Great update and short or not its always welcome. Take care matey 👍🏼
Cheers Tom, Amazing that no matter how much planning and preparation you think you’ve done, there is always something you wish you had done differently. I’m happy with the floating skimmer I’ve just added so have blanked off the 2” return for now but may use it for a separate pump to a tempest or bakki shower in the future. Thank you for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍🐟🈲😊
Hi Phil, I’m looking at some drum systems which is new to me, I was looking at combi profi drum bit after watching Danny’s koi pond kinda put me off, how you getting on with yours and what model is the oase drum you are using , thanks 👍🏻
Morning, I bought the Oase proficlear premium compact L which is a combination drum and moving bed unit. I can only say good things about it…..easy as chips to set up (virtually plug and play as primary control box is all set up ready) , fantastic operation and virtually no maintenance. Only slight issue I had was with an error message on one of the sensors but a quick call to the Oase technical team (who are brilliant) sorted it out (basically unless you are using all the inlets and outlets, the difference between the high water level with the pumps turned off, and the low water level with the pumps on is not different enough and can cause a false issue as that part of the sensor can’t see a difference. Answer is to turn it off - this does not impact the timed cleaning cycle or the cleaning when water gets to the minimum level). Probably made that sound more complicated than it needs to be so please take a look at my videos where I’ve done a walk through of the unit (think it’s part 12) and the more recent ones where it’s up and running. Also, registering the unit with Oases after you’ve purchased it gives you an additional 12 months guarantee on to of the standard. Really can’t praise it enough so would suggest you seriously consider it as an option. Stay safe 👍🐟🈲😊
Hello Anthony, long term plan is still under consideration, particularly as I flung the curtains back this morning to see a huge heron standing on next doors shed roof looking straight at my koi who were all swimming round the top of the pond looking for food. I will be covering the pergola with either a mesh or polycarbonate covering and then may put fishing line around the perimeters of the pond using the pergola posts as support but any suggestions would be welcomed👍🐟🈲😊
Hi Phil, Personally I think there is a lot of paranoia about herons. However, they will take small koi and possibly pierce larger koi. Their hunting style is to wade. I am going to share a link below to show one in action. I would say that your pond is too deep for it to wade. As a precaution you could consider glass jump guards around pond to prevent or discourage a heron. In my opinion the glass looks good and has a dual purpose. Have a look. th-cam.com/video/G7o3ByJH2z0/w-d-xo.html Good luck.
Hello, yes, have one in reserve but didn’t want to pump into gravity fed filter so may hook it up to something like Tempest but in pond skimmer will go for now👍🐟🈲😊
🤣😂🤣 I know it sometimes seems like I’m Oase through and through but I do actually use all sorts of makes and really like the EA filter gel and pond balls (but FYI I do have a brand new pot of Oase “Bio Kick” filter seeding substrate that came with the filter😊). 👍🐟🈲😊
Pond looking good Phil 👍 What made you do away with the gravity skimmer? Did you have a pump connected to it, or was it purely gravity? Still hoping to use mine once the upgrade is done later this year.
Needs a dedicated pump but I set it up to be pulled through the filter by the primary pump and adjusted by a ball valve but I just couldn’t get it to work properly. Oase swim skim is only a temporary measure as I Will be connecting a separate pump to the gravity skimmer and returning it via a bakki shower or upflow filter at a later date. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🐟🈲😊
For me the benefits included having a purpose made chamber to house my 2 pumps and UV under water but easily accessible. There are canisters to hold additional media and the outlets make connectivity to pipe work very easy👍😊. Definitely not an essential but a nice to have👍😊
Nice and tidy filter system. I like the black colour too and heavy duty lids.

Thanks Glynne, am enjoying playing with all the various elements. No doubt I still have more to do but filter covers next then can start looking at new fish 👍🐟🈲😊
Great job. I'm getting mine rendered pearl grey to match the house
Hello John, sounds good, we are looking at City Slate Grey so that it matches our fence colour we already have 👍🈲🐟😊

All looking good Phil. Keep up the videos, even though they might be 'shorts' they are all informative. Cheers
Thanks Steve, much appreciated. Still watching your progress with interest. Fingers are hurting through keeping them crossed for you for so long😂👍🐟🈲😊

@@TelfordKoiPond thanks Phil 👍🏻
Well done Phil. What's your plan long term about keeping herons away?

What not add a vari pump too pipe work from your skimer too drum filter then you can control the flow mate

@@TelfordKoiPond That's what I'm going to be doing as well. Lots of things to do before I can get to that point though. Thanks.
Nice one Phil, I sent you a few pics of my netting set up on your facebook messanger. Happy to send more info if reqd
👍
I’m just building a pond and will be fitting the Compact M. What do you think the advantage of the pump chamber is as a user? Thanks.
