    7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey had a huge impact on my life. I also learned some great time management techniques using the old school Franklin Covey Planner method. This was 20 years ago but I still make my “to-do” list each day and prioritize with A, B and C.
    Thanks for sharing your list. I’ve added them to my list of books to read. Love your content and I learn so much!

    I highly recommend Atomic Habits. It completely changed the way I look at building habits & sticking with them.
    Also, thanks for the recommendations! Looking forward to some good reads.

    Another Dale Carnegie book - How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. The examples are quaint and dated, with the main reference points being the Great Depression and the Second World War, and it's still an inspiring book full of wisdom that's relevant today.
    I'd also be interested if you did a regular You Tube video (live or otherwise) on impactful books.

    • @mappedoutmoney
      @mappedoutmoney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dimitri! Thanks for that. I'll have to check out the Dale Carnegie book, that sounds really good. And I appreciate the feedback about the impactful books. Hanna and I are talking about that, and I think we'll try to figure out a way to do this soon. I read all the time anyways, so I think it could make sense to bring that to the channel if others are interested.

      Hi Dimitri. Try, 'The Secret of Goals', by Ronald L. Reynolds, first Publlished in 1979. I think you'd like this one.

    "The Richest Man in Babylon" is one of the greatest finance books ever.. I've read it atleast 10 times and pick up something new every time. It's a must read.

    Hey Nick, what about a monthly or bi-monthly book discussion?
    I don't read as much as I used to. Also, I don't think I could join a random book group, since I don't know other people with my interests (I don't enjoy most fiction books). But I think people who regularly watch channels like yours, share a lot of interests. Personal finance, business, life skills, etc. Just look at the comments on this video. I've read some of them, and they're amazing, so I can only imagine how great the ones I haven't read are.
    This would motivate me to read more, and it would greatly increase participation in your channel.
    What do you think?

    • @mappedoutmoney
      @mappedoutmoney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude! I LOVE this idea and it's something Hanna and I have been tossing around. I'm not exactly sure how to implement this just yet, whether a FB group, or a live discussion here on YT, or what. But I really like this idea. I'm glad you've expressed some interest. Maybe YT live is the way to go.
      I need to think through the execution more on this, but I really like it. May have to test this out soon.
      Let me know if you have any other thoughts!

I have read about 70 self development type books in the last year, I would add “simple path to wealth”, “daring greatly”, “richest man in Babylon “, and “the alchemist “, Thx for the book recommendations, can’t wait to read $100 startup!

    I read “Who moved my cheese” in college and it really helped me go through a lot of life changes. It just puts things in perspective even though it’s pretty simplistic.
    Then: The total money makeover which I actually listened to as audiobook. I think that should be required reading in high school and college.
    Those are my top two.
    Can you make a video on how to find and / or make time to read? I have too many books on my to read list and not enough time.

    For me: 'The Magic of Goals', by Ronald L. Reynolds, pub. 1979. It's a short read, but give it a try, read it from a 'now' perspective and it's Gold! For those of us who spend our entire life focused on the needs of others...in my case a Mother of 4...when those children are reared and gone, the life we've led suddenly is empty and possibly directionless. This book helps put a 'new life and opportunities' into perspective, and helps us to give ourselves permission to take the time to find out what WE want or wanted once upon a time and how to go about fulfilling ourselves for a change. My youngest is 24, but until I really studied this book, I hadn't realized that I've spent the last few years Still focused on all 4 and holding my breath until they needed me again. I talked to my Oldest, 38, she said, 'Mom, I give you permission, from all of us, to DO YOU!!! We're fine, you've done everything you need to do, GO, find yourself, just as you encouraged each of us to do!!' This book came at the right time for me, just as these did for you! Karen

    Thank you for adding these great books to our reading lists. I have read a couple of these and can see that more of them will help me to continue to grow. I think you know that the book that changed my life was "Your Money or Your Life" by Vicki Robin. Of course, I was much older than you when I read it so I was in a phase of looking at retirement rather than wealth building. I went in the direction of cutting back on my spending rather than building up my income stream.

    Can I do a story time? Not finance, but humour me. I read this book at the right time in my life.
    The gift of fear.
    It's a great personal safety book all women should read!
    I used to be paralysed by fear of men which held me back from the life I wanted, with love, a husband and kids.
    This book helped me so much (and music by Josh pyke) to not be afraid. My body will let me know when I need to be afraid and I will listen to it, but I'm free from fearing every single man on this planet. I will trust my animal brain to know, to use my gift of fear.
    Late start. First kiss at 26, but I now have an amazing husband and two kids. ❤️

    great book selection! i was trying to think of my top 5 books and i couldn't. it's like you said over the years different books mean more to you because of where you are in life. books that were so important to me 10 years ago now don't have that impact. without trying to sound to preachy the only book that has always been the most beneficial and constant is the Bible.

    • @mappedoutmoney
      @mappedoutmoney  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! The Bible has been a stable constant and always the absolute.
      I definitely understand that it can be hard to pick though since you as a person change.
      Thanks Kari :)

    The teachers in my district are teaching growth mindset to the kids, weaving it into the curriculum. Facing any kind of adversity with the belief that if you can continue to muster up the energy to work on an issue and approach it from a different angle you have a good chance of solving it. Seriously, who would not benefit from thinking this way?

    • @mappedoutmoney
      @mappedoutmoney  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that's awesome! Yes, patience is key here. Just take it one step at a time. It can take awhile, but that's okay, there's no rush. It took us a lot of time and sacrfice to make this happen and we're still doing a lot and being patient for even bigger things we're pursuing.

    I would have thought with the minimalism/frugality/small space you would read ebooks instead of paper books, or maybe audiobooks. So why choose physical books? I also noticed that you seemed to be taking notes. Do those go into any system to be reviewed later?

    • @mappedoutmoney
      @mappedoutmoney  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do both! Depends on how many notes I think I may take. Books are one thing I always make room for.
      And yes, I have a specific process for taking notes, documenting my learnings, and implementing them later. I keep summaries of the book and what I plan to implement etc...
