    Wow what great prices! Kinda reminded me of the old rachel ray show 40 dollars a day. Were those coconuts you drank from cold or like room temperature? One time I bought some coconut shampoo.....then I realized I didn't even have any coconuts!

    Pejibayes are awesome, it's curious that this palm fruit is not commonly consumed by people in other countries of the region.
    You can actually make delicious hummus-like dips with it. It's true that us ticos usually eat it with mayo. They taste good with honey too... but that's for the more adventurous.
    Have you guys visited the old gold mines in the area? That's a gorgeous hike with A LOT of local history that you might enjoy!!

    • @hopscotchtheglobe
      @hopscotchtheglobe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've made the hummus many times and everyone always loves it! I haven't tried it with honey yet. I'll have to give it a go. We have visited some of the gold mines but didn't get a great chance to explore much because it was during rainy season and it POURED! So we have to leave before it got dangerous. I definitely want to explore more. Where would you suggest?

  • @JacobCarlson
    @JacobCarlson ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you cook the soup or did you just let it cook from friction in the blender??

    • @hopscotchtheglobe
      @hopscotchtheglobe  ปีที่แล้ว

      I cooked the onions, garlic, celery, pepper and veggie stalk on the oven. The pejibaye already come cooked from the market so I just added those in the blender with everything else. You totally could cook it all in the blender though. Next time I'll try that way.

      It really depends where you go and who you are dealing with. This video is an area that's so beautiful but isn't visited very often by travelers. Which are the places I love most personally. Yes, you can find very affordable food, transportation, accomodations and activities here (I've been living here for 2 years and visiting for years before that multiple times).

  • @turkeyphant
    @turkeyphant 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    lol what are you on about? You can't even hire a car for $20 pp let alone gas. Even if you hire a car, depreciation is quite a lot. And then you've also ignored, rent/mortgage, bills, taxes, etc.
    At the end of the video you say you can rent a car for $40/day. Where?! That's simply not remotely true.

    • @hopscotchtheglobe
      @hopscotchtheglobe  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is my friend. We have several contacts that offer that rate for car rentals. It's not through a typical car rental service though. It's private. People renting out their own cars.

    • @hopscotchtheglobe

      By asking around when you get here. I'm also a normal person who found a car rental during the first couple days this way :)
