Hey! Thanks for your educational videos 😊. However, you should read this "Husgvarna 225, 215, 205" manual again, at least for winding. Your machine is model s215. However, the machine is exactly the same model as "Husgvarna 215, because in some market areas the letter s is added in front of the series of numbers. Here in Finland, the same instructions are included in models 225, 215 and 205, model number. the last two numbers tell how many different stitches the machine can make 25, 15 or 5. First; the user manual shows that the thread roll should be placed in the horizontal holder so that the thread unwinds from the roll in a counter-clockwise direction (it runs in the roll in such a way that if the thread is pulled from the roll towards you, the roll rotates downwards!). We have the user manual on page 9 in the top picture. Second; when winding the thread on the shuttle, the thread should follow the same route as when knitting through the needle to the bottom of the foot and only from there the winding to the guide, i.e. go down to the top and only then (wind clockwise like you did in the video👍). We see this in the user manual on page 10, the top picture, which is a little incomplete because the machine's foot and needle are not visible in the picture. The text says "pull the thread from the needle under the presser foot to the right to guide C", this guide "C" is marked in the picture and the picture also shows that the thread comes from below to the guide, from there to the bobbin, which is attached to the winding shaft and the shaft is locked in the down position. The thread therefore goes around the same route when winding as when sewing. The benefit of this is that when winding more yarn onto the bobbin, you never have to remove the yarn from the needle or the yarn path. This speeds up the knitting work and makes spooling easier during sewing 😊. That Swedish engineer is wise! However, if you want to wind the thread without having to wind it along the thread track and through the needle and under the foot, there is also a possibility for that. A Swedish engineer has thought of a solution for this too! Then the thread roll is placed on the vertical thread pin and the thread is transported from it to the winding bobbin through three guides, this is also explained in our instruction manual in the bottom picture on page 10. In this case too, the roller must rotate counter-clockwise! Why counterclockwise? I do not know! At least here in Finland, the machine comes with these instructions. I don't know if you have different instructions there 🤔? However, thanks for your educational videos, we are just learning how to use the machine here 😊. I just got a machine with model number 225 used here in Finland. Now I have to learn how to use Husgvarna from the very beginning, first of all I am a man and the last time I sewed with a sewing machine was more than 40 years ago 🤔. These videos of yours were really helpful and I really wondered about the difficulty of winding in your video! So I thoroughly familiarized myself with the user manual 🤔, and maybe solved the problem? Nice sewing there for you, your daughter and her friends, you can always learn something new when you take such an attitude👍. The translation work was provided by Google, so my comment may be difficult to understand! However, I hope that this report would be helpful at least for you 😊👍.
Your advice is solid! Yes, always go back to the manual. It's amazing how you can see something new that you didn't see before. I will try that. Just a comment about which way to load the thread spool - I recently went to a class and was told, find the end that is rough (sometimes the spool end can be rough and jagged) and don't have the thread pass over the rough end! So, I think there is some case by case decisions that need to be made. But I have never gotten a clean winding of this particular bobbin so I will carefully read your comment and try again. If I have better luck, I will post a new video!
I got my hands on another machine. This gave me an opportunity to remake the bobbin video based on your excellent research. It worked perfectly! Please see the new video. I try method 1 and 2. I find method 1 a better product overall since it’s tight and smooth but I am noticing my tension is now off! I’ll have to play with that. I wonder if the tighter bobbin wind is creating more tension imbalance. In any event thank you for the extra work informing me and I’m excited to show the new video so people know how to wind the bobbin per the manufacturer’s user manual.
